Death. Betrayal. Destruction.
This was Alaya’s destiny, written in the stars on the night she was born. She should have been killed because of it.
She wasn’t.
The once crown prince of the highest throne in Sundolia is now the high king, and all of his advisors agree on one thing: He should have destroyed that dangerous Dragon woman when he had the chance.
He didn’t.
Now war spreads like a … didn’t.
Now war spreads like a wildfire from the southern kingdom. The empire is burning. The day of prophecy is arriving. Alaya still lives, her power more dangerous and unpredictable than ever.
And the stars, it seems, told no lies.
Or did they?

A magical ending for this trilogy! I’ve been reading kind of slowly, because I didn’t want it to be over… I was thrilled to read that the author plans on returning to this universe, although it will focus on new characters. Sign me up!
I thought a lot of times that Alaya reminded me of Ailin in the Throne of Glass series, and that’s high credentials. I’ve been putting the last book in that series on hold, since I’m having problems with it being the end of THAT world…
If you enjoy epic fantasy, great world building, and characters that develop and grow during the books – give the Serpents and Kings trilogy a shot. You’ll not regret it!
* I received an ARC from the author and I’m happy to give my honest review. *
You can now find me permanently staring at the ceiling and screaming in both delight (that this series was so spectacularly good) and in frustration (because it’s over). I have been swallowed by a book hangover and I am not going to be ready to leave my headspace for a good month.
This conclusion was everything you could possibly want out of this series. It delivered on every single emotion and every single promise made from the first moment we met Alaya and her friends. The Dragon and the Rook.
What an adventure.
I had seriously high expectations going into this one, and it did not disappoint. The opening was dark, as expected based on the abrupt ending to part 2. I liked how this book revisited characters and themes from earlier and in some places brought closure, in others brought new light and perspective.
This is the final war between two parties and there are no easy decisions. The conflict was expressed on all levels from personal decisions, to parties within a side making decisions, to the larger battle affecting them all. I would have liked to see a little more conclusion to the story – there was nothing to be seen after the battle but dark, and a possible reason for that was given, but was there sight after the battle?
It was a long book, but the pacing was good. There were parts where I could hardly flip the virtual page fast enough and parts I slowed down to savor. It was a satisfying conclusion to the series and had all the elements I was looking for and all my favorite characters played important roles.
This is the conclusion of a trilogy that starts strong and builds to an epic conclusion. Start from the beginning and enjoy!
Fantastic Wonderful Amazing Everything I wanted it to be Such a great series. You will not be disappointed my friends. Just read it. (As long as you’ve read the rest of the series of course)
Such an amazing series. Every step of the way the world is woven in amazing clarity. Piece by piece everything laid out, you are constantly in awe by the intrigues that are laid out. I am not sure about you but usually within the first couple of pages I have the whole book planned out in my head as to how it will go and I find that I am constantly surprised by this book even though you would think that I would have grown accustomed to it by now. Ok and on to this particular book. The book like the others were well written. It starts with the Alaya being tortured and Emrys and Sade are trying to find her. She escapes and you would think that everything would go up hill and it would be a happy reunion and they would conquer all of their enemies and live happily ever after. When does anything in this series happen that easily and neatly. When they are reunited, he says I love you, she stabs him for example. Ok so there is more to it than that. But what a teaser right? Truly though, I love them together. I love their story. About as much as I hate Sylven. The ending I found very fitting and satisfying. Anybody else think that Lady Isoni wasn’t going to see the end for some reason though? Glad that this is not the end of the universe though and look forward to seeing it spin into a new story.
Wow! An amazing ending of this series. A captivating story full of action, suspense, twist and turns. The storyline and characters are fantastic. I really enjoyed this excellent series.

A mindblowing finale to a mindblowing series!!!
Wow!!! What a ride this final book in the series was! Non-stop action right from page one, mindblowing twists and turns, nail-biting suspense and a tight-knit plot that kept me glued to my e-reader till the last word. S.M. Gaither has created an amazing, unique and complex fantasy world, unlike any I’ve encountered in my reading so far. If you haven’t read this series yet, do yourself a favor: grab all the books and binge read them!

An amazing finish to the series. I download the book Friday evening thinking I would read a chapter or two a night and still get my studing I. For school. Didnt happen. I finished up the book Saturday afternoon. Could not put it down once I started reading it. I feel that there was not one full spot in the whole book, really kept you on the edge of your seag wanting to get to the next page to see what happens next. Cant wait to read the next series that is wrote especially seeing how it will take place in the same world as Serpant and Kings series does. Definitely a must read series.
