When cynicism and true love collide, there can only be one outcome.Orphaned as a young girl, Mallory Church learned very early on that love didn’t come for free; especially not for her. A fact once again proven by her ex-fiancé—and now, technically defunct best friend—as he up and left when she needed him most. Firefighter Ethan Myers was the supreme bachelor. With a great career, good friends, … bachelor. With a great career, good friends, and women on a whim; he was on top of the world. When a work-related incident pushes Ethan to hit pause on life, it forces him to take a hard look at his lifestyle and decide on what truly matters.
Left to deal with a shameful secret on her own, Mallory moves to the small town of Willow Oaks to start over; determined never to rely on anyone ever again. But as she grows closer to Ethan, the walls she’d built to protect herself begin to weaken. Will Mallory’s secret force her to push away the one man who might truly stand by her?

I loved this story about Ethan and Mallory, they both had a lot that they had to overcome to get to there happy ending. Ethan had a to come to grips with his past and learn that sometime that strongest people need to be rescued. Mallory needed to realize that she could depend on people.

An amazing book. So much heartache woven in – it truly made my heart hurt. Really well done and personable characters. Wonderful characters. Twists and turns and an equally wonderful storyline. A very lovely read.

This is a sweet small town tale with Mallory, a nurse, working as a nurse in a small practice after leaving a larger city & hospital. Ethan, a firefighter has returned home recovering from an incident.
She however is carrying a big secret & Ethan wants to do the right thing by her.
Of course the path to true love doesn’t always run smoothly & our couple have a long road ahead of them. A little bit of angst & back & forth till they come to their senses.

I think the author did a great job with this book as a foster kid myself I could kinda relate I really liked both Mallory and Ethan they were good likable character and I really enjoyed getting to know them. This is a great addition to the series and I really enjoyed it and would recommend it.
This is the first of Melissa Crosby’s books that I have read. I thought it was a good book and it addressed some tough topics like PTSD and unplanned pregnancy. I loved how the main characters had to deal with their own problems before being together and I loved how the town rallied around the couple and helped them.
Mallory grew up in foster care unwanted and unloved and the way her ex treated her made her feel the same way. Willow Oaks was only supposed to be a temporary place for her to go until she met Ethan. Firefighter Ethan is still dealing the trauma from not being able to save a baby in a fire and he feels like he has to save Mallory. At first she’s ok with that, but then she realizes shes doesn’t want to settle if she can’t have his heart. This was a clean romance with two broken characters and the wonderful people of Willow Oaks who rally around to support them.
I just loved Mallory and Ethan, both have issues that are stopping them from moving forward, Mallory’s are life long and Ethan’s are more recent. I liked how they were attracted to each other but were totally awkward and slightly self destructive at times to each other and themselves which endeared them even more to you. This is the perfect mix of love, sweetness, loss, recovery, good friends and learning to love yourself and others … oh and you will never look at the golden girls the same again!!!
