When Lara discovers her boyfriend is a cheater she takes off for Edinburgh and ends up applying for a job at the Cardinal – 7 floors, 7 businesses. Lara lands a bartending job on floor 7 where Harry (Harriet) is the manager. It’s only while she’s there during her interview that Lara realizes it’s really a gay bar. When she’s offered the job she tosses aside any uneasy feelings and grabs it. After all, no one in Edinburgh knows her so what if she works in a gay bar? Besides, she needs the money bad. Lara doesn’t know it, but she’s just set her life on a course of change. Big change.
This is a nommy story with an interesting concept. A building with 7 businesses, one for each floor. And each business pertains to a specific sin with managers for each. Harry is the manager for her bar and she’s also the overall manager of the Cardinal. She takes a special interest in Lara and soon Lara is living an exciting life not only of lust, but also of discovery. And she’s making friends that feel like family. They provide the support she never gets from her own family.
There is a lot of sex in this book. Yummy delicious creative sex. But I felt as if the plot was lacking. I mean, you can have a book with just sex and some scenes in-between and that’s fine, but I kept expecting something dramatic to happen and it didn’t. Well, not until much later in the book. Maybe I missed the build up to it? In any case, it’s still a great read, but the plot sort of meanders until the dramatic conclusion. I’m glad I found this book and author through BBNYA. I’m planning to read book 2 in this series since I really like the premise and the characters. Well, except Maddie and no one likes her. For good reason, too.
Wow just Wow. I have never read a book like this before. And this was a debut book!! Wow! This book is amazing! The sex is unbelievably hot! You definitely cannot read this one at work! I loved the storyline. It was unique. The characters were wonderful and I was immediately drawn in and connected with them. They were well written and I fell in love with them all (except the antagonist whom I hated). The mark of a truly good story is that it is capable of invoking a powerful range of emotions well after the last chapter is finished. It took me a couple of days to be able to sit down and write this review because of how it effected me. A tremendous amount of talent and polish went into writing this story I definitely put this one near the top of my favorites in this genre. I didn’t want it to end. The epilogue saved what I initially thought was going to be the ending. Brava! I can’t wait for the next book in the series!! Well done TJ!
