Based on a true story of exorcism and paranormal events, this story’s undercurrent is a dysfunctional relationship between Savaunah and her husband, Alex, that prompts Savaunah to blame God for her unhappiness and dares Him to prove he is real. The bizarre response takes the surreal to a whole other realm–literally.
Paranormal events do exist as this novel based on the author’s experiences will prove. It is the story of a woman who is unhappily married to a man she loves. It takes a whole lot of cheating on both their parts to recognize that she has to leave the marriage. As a matter of fact she didn’t even realize that she was being abused–her husband never laid a hand on her–the abuse was verbal which can actually be a whole lot worse! Her husband was a police officer and I know a couple of women personally who married then divorced them–For some reason there are some that can not leave their jobs at the office–the anger follows them to their homes!!
This book will take you through the haunting of their home by a malicious spirit through to the realization that she has to change her life. It is rather long but should keep you interested as it did me.
The next time something goes bump in the night and/or strange occurrences happen–look into yourself for the devil that lives within!
Rain No Evil was a book given to me in exchange for an honest review. It is about a woman called Savannah, and she is married to a policeman who is well respected. Her husband has worked on a number of domestic violence cases and child abuse, and Savannah doesn’t know whether this is why her husband has changed towards her, and become verbally abusive.
She longs for the Alex Templeton she first met fourteen years prior, a man who used to look at her through eyes of love, rather than disgust. Unfortunately, her desire to be loved has led her to numerous indiscretions with other men, all in the hopes of ‘capturing a feeling’.
To make matters worse, Savannah is certain that her husband is also having his own indiscretions, and with people she knows. So she is in a general state of vulnerability and insecurity. But when a random leak appears in her house, as her life is spiralling, it starts to tip the Templeton family over the edge.
The book suggests that negative situations can attract negative interruptions from perhaps the paranormal. This is an idea I’ve heard before when studying spiritualism, so it was something I could understand within the story, despite it being a topic I’m not used to seeing featured in a book.
It shows differing opinions on such instances, and also highlights more issues within their family unit.
It was a well-written story, and a book I can see was written from a woman who has experienced these events in her life as it’s based on true events, and wants to empower and educate others on how to handle such a situation as a difficult verbally abusive marriage.
Some readers may relate to Savannah and her situation, and be able to take some comfort and message from this story. Others may find the subject matter of interest in general.
I liked the journal entries that Savannah wrote as escapism, and you can’t help but love her two children Ben and Isaac.
Good read, and ideal for reader empowerment.
Savannah has a unhappy marriage, both parties seem to have cheated in the past and for what it worth Savannah’s go to response when her husband was being disrespectful was to go off an have sex with someone else…. I am not condoning Alex’s behaviour towards her, but what Savannah did was equally as bad – she would dump her kids on her neighbour so she could hook up with a guy…I just don’t understand her reasoning for doing what she did and the way she did it. What we had were two very broken and unhappy characters who in essence didn’t want to be the first one to make the move to separate.
The paranormal side to the story was great, and I really loved it. I loved how Savannah and her boys dealt with it and how Alex was so pig headed he refused to believe it was anything other-worldly and wasted money looking for a leak that simply didn’t exist. How could a water leak shoot water across the room, cause the toilet water to shoot up straight to the ceiling when flushed and be caused by as water leak? This part of the story was fantastical, sometimes scary and I wanted more. As the story progresses you can see a change in Savannah, she changes her ways and grows stronger as a person, she finally redeemed herself when she got the courage to tell Alex she was leaving.
Rain No Evil is based on the authors true paranormal experiences, but I must say that I am shocked that she included her sexual trysts in so much detail, but now as I write this review it makes sense that what she was doing invited the spirit in and it was her change and acceptance coupled with an exorcism that got it to leave.
From an editing point of view I disliked the journal entries – I would have preferred them to be just typed into the story rather than a image – this was tedious to click on to read the one or two sentences and click off again to get back to the book – if I am 100% honest I didn’t bother to read the journal pieces after the first few and I really don’t think I missed all that much by doing so.
Savannah has been unhappy in her marriage for a long, long time. No matter how hard she tries, she can’t make her husband Alex show her any respect. She starts having rendezvous’ with other men, looking for the acceptance and love she misses so badly. This only makes her emptier with each encounter. She soon discovers this emptiness has opened a door for an evil force to attach to her.
I expected this story to lean more toward the paranormal, and it did, but what I wasn’t expecting was so much dialog of Savannah’s exploits and thoughts. To me, she actually seemed to be a sex addict. At times, I couldn’t understand her actions, but I can’t say how I would react in that situation. Otherwise, it was a great story that I enjoyed reading. I highly recommend it.
