What happened after the happily ever after? You all know the story of The Wizard of Oz, but did you ever wonder what happened after the fairytale ending? Well we know. Not all afters end up happily, sometimes the real adventure starts much later…A prison off the coast of Badalah is no place for the Mayor of Oz, but I’ve found myself here anyway. The ogres who run the place won’t tell me what I’m … place won’t tell me what I’m being charged with, and the other prisoners have made it clear I have no chance of escape. My new cellmate is decent, but there are others in this prison who don’t have my best wishes at heart, and I have to get home — back to Oz and to my siblings, who are all alone in the world now that our mother, Dorothy, has died. No one has ever escaped from this island fortress. Perhaps I’ll be the first.
Following famous fairytale characters, eighteen years after their happily ever after, the Kingdom of Fairytales offers an edge of the seat thrill ride in an all new and sensational way to read.

Planning an escape, but how? It’s impossible!
Once again, a very different tale! I love how the authors are keeping it fresh! Well-written, unique! Well worth 4.5 stars.
I personally haven’t read many Wizard of Oz books. I have watched a few variations on TV. So this is a fun new world for me. Jakob, Dorothy’s adopted son, has been thrown in jail for treason by flying monkeys. He must figure out how the flying monkeys, once gone, have returned. As well as how to get out of jail.
Jakon, the mayor of Oz, suddenly wakes up in the Urbis prison, brought there by the winged monkeys without trial and based on ridiculous charges. Desperate to get back to his siblings and duty, there is only one thing on his mind – escape. And maybe his cellmate as well.
The opening book in the next miniseries of Kingdom of Fairytales is a great indicator this series is different from the others, and not only because of the M/M romance involved. Jakon shows many weaknesses, his fears being almost equally dominating as his great capacity to love. Even facing the ogres does not diminish what is hidden in his heart. When he stands up for Silas, the silent big guy, the discovery of his affinity to air and storms brings new possibilities, and he might finally gain the freedom to follow his heart.
Magical beings being thrown into a high security prison with no trial or recourse? Something is not right here. Jakon is dragged into this situation by flying monkeys (that he thought were no more) with no warning. Deeply concerned about both his kingdom and his large family of younger siblings, Jakon is not just going to sit back without a fight. Luckily for him he is good at making allies and who better to start with than his rather handsome cellmate.
This book has a bit of a gaslamp feel to it and I’m hoping Jakon and his new friends come up with an escape plan soon so we can see more of OZ. Lots of references to characters and places from the books. Jakon’s magic makes an appearance and it is wonderfully appropriate to his character. There seems to be the beginning of a slow burn romance as well.
Jakon’s story is the 10th in the kingdom of fairytales and starts with a bang. This story has quite a few references to other kingdoms. As with other stories in this large series, his 4 book arc can be enjoyed independent from the others. If you have read others though, this book adds a new perspective on the magic that came over the land 18 years ago and how it has changed recently.
King of traitors is the first book in the Wizard of Oz arc by J.A. Armitage and Emma Savant.
Not all story end with a happy ending. The Mayor of Oz knows that. He found himself in a prison off the coast of Badalah. A prison where guards are ogre and those one tell him that he’s been charged for treason. He wants to go back home and too his sibblins but chance or escape are very slim.
I have received an arc of this book from the authors.
This is not the Oz we know and love it. It’s so much more. Filled with danger, mistrust, unlikely friendships and flying monkeys. Jakon has his work cut out for him
