This was a very enjoyable read, it took me a little while to warm up to Adam but once I did it was hard not to root for him and Evie!
The romance had a good build up, I felt like it was very realistic in comparison to other romance novels. The steamy scenes were very good too!

A fun story about two people, Adam and Evie, that meet in the Australian Outback while escaping from some chapters of their lives. At first, they don’t get along well, but then they decide to explore the outback together and, because of their different personalities – he’s a quiet guy and she loves talking -, a lot of confusion – some funny, some not so funny – happen, and they have to decide how to solve them!
I am hard-pressed to decide what I liked most about Giulia’s book. Was it the tug-at-your-heart romance or the colorful descriptions of the Australian outback? She took me on the journey with Adam and Eve–yes, it was clever how she threw them into a paradise/wasteland setting at times. Both main characters had baggage. I liked the way she layered it in as the story unfolded. While the story wasn’t awash in description, when she needed to make me picture the scenery, she did an effective job. When she wanted me to identify with the character, she knew the right words to show me how. I even enjoyed the unfamiliar slang used by the English and Canadian characters, it fit like a glove. Keep giving your readers more of your talent!

The story
Evie is a Londoner travelling through the Australian outback after a bad breakup. Michael Adams is a Canadian, retired Olympic swimmer, now reality tv star fake-married to fellow star Saskia. When he outs her diet and drinking habits on social media and then flees to Australia pretending to be “Adam”, the last thing he is looking for is a travelling partner. Soon he realises that it would be a better disguise to be travelling with someone else, and he offers Evie a lift. Their epic voyage through the outback allows them to share who they are with each other and find peace in a simple existence. Except Michael hasn’t been able to tell Evie anything about who he really is.
My thoughts
I really feel like I have journeyed to the hot Australian outback while reading this lovely story! I was really rooting for Adam and Evie, and just loved how they were able to find happiness and peace with each other. So much lack of communication though but it made sense that Adam and Evie struggled with this given their family and personal histories. It’s a real goodie!

I loved this book! It is one of my favorites. Hilarious first scene and I loved the chemistry between the couple. And the descriptions were so vivid that I felt like I was there with them in the Australian Outback. I wish!
Totally enjoyed this book. The characters were believable and interesting and storyline unique. I was so engrossed with this story I couldn’t stop reading! Giulia’s first book is a treasure and will want to put her on your follow author list.
You will end this book with a smile on your face love in your heart.
Evie and Adam meet in Australia, and she hires him to take her across the outback. She’s taking a break from her real life after her relationship of 15 years falls apart. He’s hiding from the entire world – his fake marriage has become just too much to bear, and he’s just not happy. This is an interesting and unique story. The author’s descriptions of the scenery were especially vivid – I could close my eyes and envision the locations. The characters are complicated and imperfect. They’re barely acquaintances when they begin their journey, but the exchanges between them are wonderful, sometimes funny, sometimes not, always real (except for Adam’s big secret). I love Evie’s wit and sense of humor, but hate that she’s still stuck on Zac and his new baby. While I understand the reasons for Adam’s lies, it’s still tough on everyone when the truth comes out, especially Evie. Adam lied to her, her father lied to her. They met some incredibly interesting people on their journey, especially Webbo and Daisy. His friends are incredible, opening their home and hearts, and Krista kicks Adam’s butt when he needs it most. This is a wonderful book. I feel fortunate to have had the chance to read the first novel from this new author, and I’m looking forward to more from her.

I’ve never been to Australia, but this book is the next best thing. Completely immersive, the novel shows the author’s love for the Outback. The love story between Evie and Michael felt fresh and fun. I thoroughly enjoyed this book and look forward to reading more from Giulia Skye.

Favorite Quotes:
She seemed practical and sensible, and didn’t need an entourage to help her live out her life. He’d heard talk of the myth, so could it be that he’d actually come across one of those rare women who didn’t make a fuss?
When you retired, it was like your light bulb had gone out and you’ve been sitting in the dark ever since, still to replace it.
My Review:
When Adam Met Evie had an element of international flair, as the main characters were Canadian and British citizens who were taking an adventurous and somewhat fool-hearty trek through the Australian outback on their own, in a borrowed vehicle that had seen better days. This was an easy to follow and entertaining premise, yet the storylines evolved slowly and I often needed to scold myself to temper my impatience and to enjoy the scenic adventures and descriptions of the Australian travelogue, yet I certainly wouldn’t have minded if the story had progressed at a brisker clip. I greatly enjoyed Evie but grew increasingly frustrated with the disheartening spinelessness of the character of Adam and his layers of subterfuge. The storylines incorporated unique and amusing events and a few juicy bits of sizzle and steam along their journey. I was quite taken and amused by the gray nomads and aspire to their level of carefree wandering.
This was a very sweet story. It had good humor, and just the perfect amount of steam to make it my kind of story. There were definitely some emotional aspects, and Adam, or Michael really, his back story was very interesting and unique I thought. I liked the setting of Australia, and really wished I could be there to see all of the scenery that was described. I also wondered if any of that area was in the recent fires.
The characters had great chemistry, even if at first Adam really did frustrate me with his pushing her away. And I wondered if there was more to his story because of that. I liked the free spirit that Evie was, and seeing how she dealt with her ex. A good cry, but then also still not being able to completely let go, which is really something I feel is realistic.
Great debut novel. Can’t wait to read more from Giulia Skye.
