“I suppose I can’t expect to keep you under lock and key. You’re hardly a criminal. . .are you?” It takes a criminal to catch one, and Nicholas Brentwood is just the man for the job. Reformed in more ways than one, the rough-around-the-edges Brentwood is a member of the Bow Street Runners, London’s early nineteenth-century fledgling police force. There’s none better than Brentwood at … than Brentwood at catching the felons who ravage the city’s streets, and there’s nothing he loves more than seeing justice served. Beautiful and beguiling, Miss Emily Payne is not the sort of miscreant Brentwood usually hunts down. When he is assigned as her bodyguard, he vows to protect her from her father’s enemies, who will stop at nothing to carry out their mission fueled by greed and revenge.
All her life, Emily has longed for love, but it remains beyond her grasp. This season she’s determined to find a husband, which is quite the undertaking with a hound-dog guardian like Brentwood watching her every step. If he would just give her some measure of freedom, she is sure she could win the heart of society’s most eligible bachelor.
Emily’s headstrong persistence challenges Nicholas in ways he doesn’t expect but of one thing he’s certain–of all the cunning criminals he’s dealt with in the past, this time he’s met his match.

Really good book set in the Regency period of England. Bow Street Runners…..fascinating choice for the heroes. Very well written with excellent tension between Brentwood and Emily. Great first book in the series. Highly recommend.
A Christian Regency romance about an early English lawman hired to protect a young woman who thinks–at least at first–that all she wants is to find a rich husband. A great love story with fascinating historical detail about the Bow Street Runners, the forerunner of the London police.
Compelling Page-Turner
So wonderfully written and had me hooked from the first page. The characters are beautifully drawn, and from first to last had me pulled into their story. Humor, intrigue, inspiration, and romance. Perfect.
Michelle Griep always gives you a wonderfully complex plot, well researched detail, and characters that feel real enough that a reminder of their fictional state causes the reader to pout. Brentwood’s Ward is no exception! Emily Payne is a debutante desperate to land a husband. When her father leaves on mysterious business, he leaves a Bow Street …
Brentwood’s Ward is a fast-paced story with well-developed, interesting characters. The plot is woven with intrigue and danger and with surprising twists and turns. Descriptive prose brings the story to life and keeps the narrative moving. Of the Bow Street Runner trilogy, this is my favorite. I highly recommend this book especially for lovers …
Oh my gosh..what a fabulous book! The author had me alternating between laughing so hard there were tears running down my face to holding my breath to see what could possibly happen next. Imagine trying to be the protector or guardian of a young lady, Emily, who is defiant, wily and petulant. This was the not to be envied job of Nicholas …
“Brentwood’s Ward” by Michelle Griep
This was a busy, intense, Regency, romance, suspense, sweet & clean novel. And, I loved it. When I discovered I had missed this story.. I immediately checked Kindle Unlimited and yes it was there… thank you very much. If you like what I like in your novels… then you do not want to miss this one. Happy …
Mystery, history, and the Regency era collide in this gripping work of fiction. Throw a smoldering undercurrent of attraction between Nicholas and Emily and you have sheer perfection! Though the author includes descriptions of the grittier side of life, she doesn’t leave the reader without a ray of hope and a gentle faith to cling to.
A stunning …
Sparing of words, sharp of eye, and sturdy as an oak tree, Nicholas Brentwood is one of Bow Street’s finest. Bow Street does not pay exceptionally well, however, and as his beloved sister lies dying, he is unable to care for her as he would like. When a rich merchant offers a fine stipend to watch over his wayward daughter, Brentwood jumps at the …
Audiobook Review
This was a Christian Historical Romance that I thought was very good. The plot was good and and the story was well-written. It also had its share of mystery and twists and turns.
Nicholas Brentwood is a very astute, down-to-earth lawman…Bow Street Runner, who is put in an awkward situation due to personal reasons. He is given …
I love all Michelle Griep’s books! This one was so good. The heroine really gave the hero a run for his monty.
4 Stars!
A well-researched story with an intriguing mystery and a slew of great characters. Nicholas was a wonderful hero with stalwart honor and no shame of his plot in life. While I struggled with Emily’s self-centeredness in the beginning, she transformed from entitled to a woman of compassion, empathy, and devotion. There were also some …
I really liked this story by Michelle Griep. She is a fairly new-to-me author and I am impressed with her writing style. Nicholas Brentwood is hired to protect the daughter of a wealthy Mr. Payne while he is away on business. Emily Payne is not very happy about having a guardian at her age and gives Nicholas a run for his money trying to keep her …
What a good story! I loved the push-pull between Emily and Nicholas right from the start. I was kept on my toes as Emily pushed the boundaries of her protective detail while Nicholas fought to keep her safe and his heart unattached. Full review at my website.
