Welcome to Hathaway House. Rehab Center. Safe Haven. Second chance at life and love.Overjoyed at his transfer to Hathaway House, Heath Jorgenson is anxious to maximize his potential and to get better from the multiple injuries that sidelined him. But rest is necessary for recovery, and Heath’s body won’t give him any. Even when he buckles under and accepts the need for drugs, his body rejects … his body rejects them. And all the determination in the world won’t matter when your own body is working against you.
Just when he’s about to give up, respite comes from the unlikeliest of sources. The sound of the cleaning lady slowly and methodically washing the hall floor outside his room lulls him to sleep and allows him to see some of the progress he’s desperate for.
Hailee Cisco is grateful for the part-time job of washing floors at Hathaway House. Sure, it isn’t glamorous, but it’s honest work, and, along with her other job, it’s enough to pay the bills—of which Hailee has many. When Dani, the heart of and the partial owner of Hathaway House, offers Hailee a full-time job, Hailee is delighted at the chance to cut back to just one job.
Until she realizes that her change in hours has an unintended impact on Heath’s sleep patterns …

Another heart warming story in this series. Injured persons sent home from battle need a decent place like this to recover. Missing body parts they have a long journey ahead of them. Heath’s battle scars are also emotional, guilt causes nightmares and tense muscles impeding his recovery. Hailee has emotional wounds of her own, the loss of a child and enormous medical debts to pay. I really enjoyed these two characters and their love story.
This story stands alone, the rest of the series will give you more of an insight into the other characters and how the place was formed.
The patients at Hathaway House have many different injuries they are healing from both mental and physical. The setting here is tranquil even as the therapy both psychiatric and physical can be brutal. It’s the balance, the staff and the animals, that make this center unique and very effective.
Heath had been a patient at the VA, he’s hit a lull in his progress and after researching found Hathaway House. He truly feels he will benefit from the treatments there.
Hailee is not a patient but part of Hathaway House’s cleaning staff. It’s one of her two jobs. She is suffering in her own way, both financially and mentally. It’s her way of mopping the floors that gives Heath some peace so he can sleep although she doesn’t realize that.
The interaction between her and Heath starts and stops almost at the same time. They have never been able to really see each other and when Hailee takes the position of accountant at Hathaway House her mopping and brief talks stop rather abruptly.
Heath hasn’t been sleeping since the cleaning person stopped mopping outside his door in the middle of the night, he doesn’t know what happened to her but the two days she said she was off became so many more.
Now these two do have more interactions but at meal times and they start talking to each other and meet up periodically. They just sort of click, but Heath has no idea Hailee was the cleaning person.
Lots of interesting things happen in this book not the least of which involves a Bobcat and a regular cat. I love that the Vet Clinic is downstairs from the rehab. Both the people and the animals benefit so much from these interactions.
An inspiring tale with a start to a relationship that is slow and healing for both Heath and Hailee.
I can’t wait to read the next book in this series.
Heath by Dale Mayer
Hathaway House Series Book Eight
Heath Hankerson has been accepted to continue his healing at Hathaway House. He’s not making much progress though. It doesn’t help when you carry a load of guilt around. Even worse, when you can’t get a decent night’s sleep because of the nightmares from that guilt. And then, something amazing happens…for a short time. Maybe he was better off without it since it’s worse with it gone.
Heidi Cisco has found solace for her hurting heart working at Hathaway House. For now, just being a night shift housekeeper gives her peace. Mopping the hallways in the early hours of the morning. Trying to clean her life like she cleans the building.
I loved how this story is told. The hero and heroine aren’t sure who the other is for a while. I enjoy this series. It’s about a place of hope for those who have been wounded in war. A healing place for both body and soul.

I loved how unselfish Hailee was, so concerned she went way beyond to help. both characters have suffered so much it is easy to love them and want the best that life can bring. Heart warming story of pain and grief that is easy to read and tugs at the heart. I adore this series, its special and uplifting despite the struggles the characters are dealing with and reaches deep within me to inspire. I look forward to more.
Another heartwarming story between two people who reside at Hathaway House. Heath, who was injured and now lives with survivors guilt and Heidi, the nighttime cleaning woman who lives with her own form of heartbreak. Heidi inadvertently helps Heath at nights when he sleeps and when she is removed from the job to something she is better suited for, Heath’s troubles resume. The two meet but don’t know who the other is and when Heath’s recovery is affected by the missing cleaning woman…all must band to find a solution.
Another great sweet read between two people who have had their share of hurt and heartbreak find one another in a place that is all about healing and moving forward.
*I voluntarily read an advanced copy and expressed my honest opinion*
I loved Hailee and Heath not just because they both came to Hathaway House to heal in different ways but for very heartbreaking reasons. These 2 are soo perfect for each other without realising it and then they slowly wind into each others lives and that leads to enlightenment, positive decisions and some happily ever after!

Every story in Hathaway House is regarding our wounded heroes. Each one is different in its own way and tugs all the heart strings and makes you think. The guilt for coming home when friends don’t, how do you actually get around that? Dale also shows how civilians can have their own guilt, their own injuries, be it emotional and does smoothly enough that your carried along, and feeling for the wounded hero( Heath in this one) and the civilian (Hailee). Hathaway house is a rehabilitation center, privately own and each member of the caring team are awesome, they all deserve their own story in addition to our heroes. Pick up Hathaway house, enjoy a moving read and know that no matter what, all is right in your world. Thank you for the arc! I voluntarily leave this review and all thoughts and opinions are my own.
Heath is veteran injured by an IUD that killed his two best friends. He has PTSD and survivor’s guilt from the accident. Heidi lost her only child to a birth defect and her husband divorced her. She now has insane medical bills. This is a heartwarming story of finding a connection with someone else after a tragedy has occurred in life. It’s about forgiving yourself for events beyond your control. Finding a way to accept what is and releasing guilt for what was. It is a story of finding love and acceptance through all that has happened. Beautifully written. I volunteered to read this through Booksprout.
Heath is tormented every night due to the inability to sleep a whole night. Hailee is tormented by the loss of someone precious in her life and is struggling to hold up under the financial burden left behind. When both of them land at Hathaway House, they find a way to help each other find peace in the most unexpected ways. When Hailee is promoted to a new job that inadvertently takes her away from helping Heath, she still cannot get him out of her mind. I was so delighted with the way these two found their HEA. It was sweet, emotional and one of those books you cannot put down until you finish it. Cannot wait until the next in the series.

This book, along with all the others in this series is so enlightening. I love these books. They are about veterans and how they struggle to get through all their post traumatic stress and injuries. I love that each one spotlights just one vet and gets into detail about how the vet is struggling through their injuries and how they work so hard to deal with the everyday occurrence of the effects of those injuries and PTSD. These books seem so real and seem to have such realistic problems that I have to think that Dale does her homework before writing the series. It is so sad to think that this is happening around us all the time yet how many people think about these veterans. These books have opened my eyes and have made me look for more and more information regarding those who serve our country and suffer from protecting us and our freedom!

Another awesome read in the Hathaway House series. We have the trauma, the sadness, the joy and the loneliness as we read about Heath’s journey from injury and losing two best friends to finding his way and a way to recover. Heidi is hiding her own trauma of not only losing a baby to heart trouble but her husband, her marriage and raging debts. Will Heath be able to push his guilt away and find a better way forward? Will Heidi put the past behind and be happy?? I can’t wait for Ian’s story. Love this series so much.
Heath is suffering from survivors guilt. He hates that his two best friends died in the iud accident an he was badly injured but they had girlfriends an families while he had nothing.Hailee worked as the cleaning lady at night while also working a day job to pay off the medical bills from her son who didn’t make it.He ex husband walked on the marriage when she wouldn’t terminate her pregnancy because the baby was going to have health issues. When always waking up at two am from his nightmare.Hearing a mop swishing back an forth out him to sleep. There are so many twists and turns to this story will keep you riveted until the very last page and leave you begging for more.I love the way this amazing author brings the characters to life before your eyes and makes you feel their emotions and their pain.I can hardly wait to see what’s next by this multi talented author.
Heath goes to Hathaway House with the hope that they can help in his recovery from his horrific injuries. He cannot sleep which is causing problems with his progress. Heidi has her own problems but finds solace with Heath.
How their relationship develops is written with great skill and empathy to make this a wonderful book and one I thoroughly enjoyed.
Scars and injuries are buried in both a vet and a young woman struggling to cope with life. In both lives there are emotional wounds which impact the physical growth. The emotion, the thoughts, the digging deep on both their parts and their solutions. Bravo!!

A story about 2 lost souls for different reasons. Heath not being able to sleep because of his nightmares and Heidi working two jobs to pay for medical bills after the loss of her baby. Dale is good at writing stories about our wounded warriors and all the hardships they face. Excellent story.
Heath is a vet trying to move forward but has to face his past, survival guilt in order to move forward.
Heidi also facing personal loss of losing her son and her marriage work together to move forward.
Heath can not sleep and find relief in the mopping at 2am when the cleaner comes. Heath does not know that the cleaner is Heidi who changes job. When Heidi clicks that Heath needs the moping she put herself out and see results in Heath straightaway. But Heidi can not keep it up. With help from Dani and Shane they work together to find a solution.
Together Heath and Heidi learn to forgive, move forward and is a lovely moving love story.
