There was something scarier than flying: falling in love with Callum Callaghan. The confident playboy who never promised more than one night.Back in college he was my friend, and the boy who could’ve broken my heart, if I’d trusted him with it. Instead, I chose his best friend. The last time I saw him, he looked at the heart I held in my hands and walked away.It hadn’t been my heart. It had been … my heart.
It had been his.
A decade later, Callum and I are thrown together under the African sun. We’re here to save animals, but this could be a second chance with the boy whose heart I still hold.
But can I trust him with mine?
Mythical Creatures is part of the Callaghan Green series but can be read as a stand-alone.
Full of very steamy scenes that are hotter than the African sun, inappropriate family texts, a touch of angst and a second chance romance with a HEA and no cheating.

Mythical Creatures is an excellent addition to the already amazing Callaghan Green series by Annie Dyer.
I absolutely loved Wren & Callum’s second chance story. Callum is a broken spirit, excelling in his career that different than the path of his siblings, and figuring out where he fits in within his own family. Wren seems to be a broken spirit as well. Never settling down, she floats from job to job only accepting short term vet contracts. A work opportunity forces these two former college friends to confront their paths.
This book has so much to offer – a steamy second chance love, hilarious group chats, heart felt family moments and amazing scenery while Wren and Callum are on location.
I cannot wait for the next one!
Finally we get the story of the elusive Callum, who hides behind his social media persona. This addition to the Callaghan-Green series gives us a deeper look into his back story, and more insight into the reasoning behind his playboy ways. I felt like each chapter knocked down a piece of the wall he had built around his heart. Wren was there every step of the way as he came out of his self-induced shell. The snippets of the past sprinkled throughout the story really redeemed both characters’ past acts and made their love shine through.
While most of the story occurs while Callum and Wren are traveling, we still get updates on our favorites Callaghans *ahem MAX*. The group texts were hysterical and conveyed the love Callum has for his siblings. I also love his relationship with his step-mum, Marie. The references to Peter Pan were beautiful, especially knowing he shared those with her. My favorite quote was:
“I’d wondered is she was my Wendy, my grown up, love of my life, Wendy. When I was with Wren, I wasn’t a lost boy any more.”
I highly recommend this series and appreciate how each book lends to the depth of each character. This is a must read!
Mythical Creatures is the second book I have read of Annie Dyers. I LOVED it. Wren and Callum’s story is part of the greater Callaghan Green series. I read it is as a stand-alone and am so excited to read the other books. I connected to both Wren and Callum but there is something about Callum. He spoke to me. The unresolved childhood needs that he carries with him everyday but is trying to work through hit me so hard! Wren is cautious and hoping they can make it work. Callum knows this is his only shot with her. Callum cemented his place in my heart. The letter he wrote Wren?! Oh my word! So beautiful! I cried. I was completely engrossed in their story.
Mythical Creatures was an amazing addition to The Callaghan Green series!!!!
Mythical Creatures (Callaghan Green Series Book 7)
Callum Callaghan is a veterinarian who followed a completely different path then almost all of his siblings.
Wren is also a Vet who met Callum in college and dated his best friend, But after a situation arises and they go there separate ways Until 11 years later when they meet again.
(Of course there is Seph with his snarky remarks and advice that will make you wanna hug him <3 )
Will Wren and Callum pick up where they left off in the past or will Callum finally get the one woman who's had his heart for half his life? I really love Wren and Callum's story and i believe it was the perfect fit with the series.

Mythical Creatures by Annie Dyer felt so right in my heart. There is no other way to describe the effects of her magical writing. A familiar yet exotic love story full of raw emotions, angst filled moments and life changing feelings. Again every word fits every emotion just right. Less would have been unsatisfactory and more would spoil the beauty of the poignant and passionate love. This story was one big moment of perfection.
I am sucker for starcrossed lovers specially if it is a friends to lovers one. Mythical Creature was my unicorn. Wren and Callum’s story started in Vet School and after a bitter and painfully long disruption, they have to work together in Africa for a charity sponsored television show. Unresolved emotions hang between them like a heavy curtain. But in lap of the free, open and humblimg nature, they move it and everything comes out like a flood. Can they take the risk?
I am in love with both Callum and Wren. A strong and smart woman who knows her mind and can be a pillar of strength even with her own vulnerabilities is my weakness. And Wren is the woman. So naturally I respect her, adore her and feel inspired by her. But my heart breaks for Callum. His whole life is a tale of tragedies and abandonment and resentment. He hides his pain inside a cocky playboy exterior. His emotions are locked tight and even more confused when it comes to Wren. They lost their best friends and they do not want to lose again. But their connection is too strong, too intimate, too intense and too powerful to ignore. Their chemistry is the strongest point of this story. I had real goosebumps and tears from all the aching, wrecking and swoony moments. The slow burn, the push and pull , the desperation and the overwhelming need for each other made it an epic story.
Anni Dyer’s words touched my heart deeply and I am still under the spell. A beautiful and brilliantly written romance. My heart is impossibly full and overflowing with the love and passion.
Received ARC for Honest review
This is such a lovely story about a broken man and a young lady who wants to help him, but doesn’t know if she is strong enough!
Callum was only young when his mother died, and his dad was rarely around. Luckily his dad remarried a single lady named Marie who took on his 4 children. She loved them all, but that love couldn’t stop Callum from feeling like he was responsible for his mother’s death, and his father’s absence.
Wren and Callum became best friends at university, she dated his best friend, but when their relationship ended and Callum showed interested in Wren, she rejected him! They went their separate ways, but Wren was never far from Callum’s mind! As for Wren, she followed his career.
Fast forward 10 years, when they end up spending 6 weeks together doing a TV show, can they both figure out their real feelings that they have harboured since University or will Wren reject him again, afterall he is still the same broken man he was back then, the only difference being they are older now.
I have loved this whole series so far, but this book was special!
Great addition to the Callaghan Green series by Annie Dyer. This story focuses on Wren & Callum – this is about their second chance at love romance.
The plot is fantastic- full of feels, steam, heartache, angst, twists, rawness, passion, and love. I enjoyed the chemistry between the main characters. Even all the years later, the chemistry and connection is still there and still as potent. Will they get their HEA that was denied them 1st time around or will they finally get it 2nd time out? This standalone book in the series is awesome!!
My Rating: 4.5 stars *******
This is not my first book by Annie Dyer but it is the first in The Callaghan series. It did not disappoint. This story brings so many feelings to the table for which I was unprepared . Feel them I did.
Callum, the handsome, playboy of sorts, veterinarian, had so much more going on inside of him then we see. He kept his emotions so closed off to most. However, what everyone took as his man whorish ways was just a means of protection for others as well as himself.
Wren, was a simplistic beauty, who had her own issues to deal with when it came to trust.
Together these two beautiful tortured souls found true friendship, a commonality of love of all creatures and the adventure of discovering the world’s beauty. During the my reading (which I flew through) I got to experience places in glorified detail and treated to the majestic nature of the earth and it’s non human inhabitants. This book is more than just a love story. It was a guide to what the earth has to offer and how we should show respect.
One of the most important aspects of this story is how relatable and real it is to everyone of us. What do I mean? Well, how many of us are affected by our past. We don’t even realize how much we are shaped during our childhood years. The people raising us probably have no idea the way their actions affect us, Therefore we are left with the effects without anyone being none the wiser. We fail to properly communicate with one another and are left to our own devices to figure things out. We take these feelings into our adulthood and the circle continues. That is, unless someone notices and comes to our aid. So this book is completely relatable.
As I said earlier, this is my first Callaghan book so I met some very interesting characters and now I intend to go back and read their stories. They added great depth and clarity to the book. With that being said it is a definite standalone but why not go and enjoy them as well. They are a treat!
Besides all the goodness that I’ve already talked about you get smiles, laughter, an education, a tour of exotic vistas, a few tears, witty banter, heartfelt emails, and heat. What more could you ask for?
So I guess you can tell I liked this book. This is a family I wish I knew in real life. I looking forward to the next book and so will you once you read this story. Enjoy the beauty of these people who always reached for the stars and the majesty of the places they went. They never settled for less than they deserved. Neither should you. You deserve to read this book.
Oh Callum!! I’ve been waiting for his story since the beginning and I wasn’t disappointed. Callum & Wren get a 2nd chance and it’s the perfect chance. Just the right amount of sweet & heat. Of course catching up with the whole Callaghan Green family is always a blast.
Annie Dyer continues to add great characters to this series. I loved Wren and I loved the second chance she and Callum had to find their HEA. Sometimes in life when the answer is no it can difficult to understand the why but in this story the “why” becomes apparent and it led to a bond and a strength this couple wouldn’t have had otherwise. The family keeps growing and I keep falling in love with them all over again with each book added to the series.
A wonderful new addition to the Callaghan Green series! The characters in this family are amazing and their romances are so enjoyable to read.
Callum didn’t choose to follow in the footsteps of his parents or siblings by going into law, instead choosing to work with animals as a vet. He had always chosen animals to share his secrets with as a child instead of people; until he made an exception with Wren who he met while in college. Wren became his best friend and a secret love, but he ultimately pushed her away as he didn’t feel that he would be good for her.
Eleven years later, Callum has been requested to be part of a documentary that covers the care, treatment and rehab of wild animals in Africa. It turns out that Wren will be the second vet involved in the documentary. Will she again become the person that he confides in? Will she even let him get close enough to her for him to try?
This book can be read as a standalone and does have a HEA, but after reading this, you’ll want to read all of Callaghan Green books to catch up on all of the characters and their shenanigans!
Gorgeous. Charming. Broken. Callum Callagan has the career he dreamed of and his choice of women to spend time with. He keeps his heart well guarded, never settling down and never committing. When he signs up to star in a documentary in Africa he never dreams that he will be paired up with the one woman who broke his heart: Wren. His college best friend and true love. Wren has successfully avoided Callum for the past ten years but once they are reunited, things heat up fast and Wren has to decide. She wasn’t ready for the boy Callum was ten years ago but can she love the man he has turned into?
I absolutely love this series and I was so excited to get Callum’s book!! I had so many questions about this charming, elusive brother. Once again, Annie Dyer wrote a steamy and emotional story with lots of heart and humor (oh, those family texts!!). Plus we get to catch up with all of our favorite Callaghan siblings (hello Seph!). Definitely a five star book!
The book we’ve all been waiting for with Callum Callagan, does NOT disappoint! Our animal loving, world traveling almost mythical man has finally come home to work for a zoo and be closer to his family. Only he’s taken a job doing some show that takes him away again. Wren, his college best friend, who he tried to have his first relationship with but she turned him down and they haven’t really spoken since, is also going. There’s more family texting that will have you laughing, you will finally see Callum’s soft side, as he tries to win Wren over again. But she keeps him at arms length until he can figure out why he’s been the way he’s been with relationships. This book was so well written I read it in one sitting! Annie Dyer does it again!
Callum was a prodigal son of sorts. He fled abroad for months at a time. He had this air of mystery around him that had everyone wanting his story. We knew a little bit about what he had gone through as a child, but we didn’t know much about him as an adult. This book answers the questions. We also get to meet Serendipity “Wren”, and find out her role in Callum’s life. Turns out Callum and Wren have history that was a unexpected. Being forced into close proximity has a way of bringing up buried feelings. It was great to return to the Callaghan world. They weren’t together physically as much as usual, but they were in spirit. You still get the family texts that everyone loves. You get to keep up with the whole family. You get to find out if Callum and his dad can work things out.
Another fab instalment in the Callaghan Green series. This one concentrates on Callum, who has only been a peripheral presence in previous books, and Wren, the woman from his past whose reappearance brings up all sorts of complicated emotions for both of them. As ever, there’s the snappy dialogue and detailed characterisation that Annie Dyer does so well, plus evocative descriptions of Africa and a relationship that develops beautifully and realistically. Recommended.
To live would be an awfully big adventure.”
Mythical Creatures is resplendent! Callum Callaghan damaged at such an early age, trying to find where he fits, and what he could make his. Wren, who also experienced pain at an early age, seems to have excepted everything around her; but when given an opportunity to accept a position as a large animal vet she feels claustrophobic, and bolts at the first opportunity.
When Wren and Callum get paired up to work with animals in need in Africa neither one seems overly excited about. Callum is worried about seeing Wren again, what will she say or do? Wren is her normally prickly self, and absolutely does not want to get into their past lives together.
What happens when you figure out you’ve both grown up, and suddenly the desires of both hearts don’t seem unattainable anymore?
“When he kissed me, he became the only real thing.”
If they can keep the world at bay will Wren and Callum have a shot this time, or will one of them pull a runner again?
Every time Annie Dyer adds to the Callaghan Green series I come away with a new favourite couple, and this time is no different. She weaves her story through the scenery of Africa, telling the tale of young love and feelings of abandonment with kindness and sensitivity. All the while the text messages between the Callaghan family keep things light and funny, and the steamy, sexy times fogged up my kindle!
A beautifully written story about the different kinds of love, how everyone heals at their own pace, and that a well-built family can overcome almost anything. Worth all 5 ‘s and more!
I was so looking forward to this book and it was everything I thought it would be and more! I have one major problem though, I finished it too quickly! They very first page had one of my favourite lines in the book and I knew this book was going to be amazing, it also reveals how close Callum is to his mum Marie and the bond they have. Callum has always been a bit of a mystery and by the end of the book he is a mystery no more! If you love the Callaghan-Green series as much as I do you have plenty of appearances from all the favourites. The family chats are as always hysterical! If I could give this book 10 stars I would. I can not wait for Seph’s book! I never want this series to end!
