Fatal Limit, by the talented Inge-Lise Goss is one of those can’t-put-it-down action-suspense thrillers every reader is happy to discover.
When we first meet Dora (or Dee as her boyfriend Tucker fondly calls her), is an investigator, who’s witnessed a horrific car accident involving Sheila, the aunt of her best friend, Maddie. Sheila’s a nurse involved in an extramarital affair with one of the married doctors at the hospital where she works – and ‘nobody knows nothing’, as they say.
Dora quickly gets involved with Sheila’s odd death and the circumstances behind it, with sleuthful skills I admire most reading when I pick up a mystery novel with multiple genre twists.
Ms. Goss’s tight prose leading into her tale, and continuing on with the action is up, up, and away. The coverups regarding Sheila’s demise leads from one surprise to the next, and this reader couldn’t stop turning the pages – nor will you, once you read this highly recommended read.
Five golden stars for an intriguing mystery/thriller. Bravo, Ms. Goss.
Dora Stephens, a private investigator, is about to pick up a nurse, Sheila for a drink, when she witnesses her staggering out the hospital only to be run over by a car. Dora can’t believe this has been merely an accident, even though at first glance, the victim seems to have no enemies. “Has Sheila been given a large dose of Activan?”
The story is told in Dora’s voice, which makes it personal. Lies, drugs, betrayal, blackmail, and infidelity come into play, including Sheila’s secret affair with a surgeon. Did she have any rivals for the attention of her lover? Could jealousy be the reason for this murder? Can an antidote for it be found?
The suspenseful writing has its moments of humor to relieve the tension. “I intended… to plant a bug on him, though I didn’t have a clue where I would put one… Why didn’t men carry purses with them? Bugging women was so much easier.” Armed with a nurse’s uniform, a pair of oversized glasses, and a bob-styled auburn wig, Dora’s best weapon is her wits.
I first learned of Inge-Lise’s writing when both of us were invited to take part in the same box set, and could not resist buying this book.
Five stars.

I have had the pleasure of reading this author’s books before, and this one is every bit as good as her others.
I opened the book, began to read, and was so caught up in the story, a brilliant medical mystery, that I truly lost track of time.
The book should be required reading for anyone who enjoys this genre, or actually, anyone who enjoys a good book!
Thanks to the author for a wonderful read!
When Sheila, the aunt of her best friend, Maddie, staggers from the hospital into on-coming traffic and is killed, Dora Stephen’s investigative instincts scream the accident was murder. Someone wanted Sheila dead…but who…and why?

The narrator, Cloey Kelly, does a beautiful job of punctuating the thrills and chills.
Five glittering stars for Fatal Limits!
Fatal limit is a page turning medical thriller. The attention grabbing first chapter sets the stage when Dora Stephen’s witnesses the death of a family friend Shelia. Dora sets out to investigate the strange coincidences leading up to Shelia’s death. She unearths a pack of lies, deceit, affairs and jealousy-keeping the reader guessing to the end who the culprit is. I enjoyed Dora’s exploits and her spunkiness as she solved the mystery. I loved that the focus is primarily on the crime with the aspects of Dora’s personal life enhancing not detracting from the story. I highly recommend this intense thriller. I know I am looking forward to reading more about Dora and her investigations.
Well woven medical thriller that I found to be totally engrossing and a page turner. Has suspense, intrigue, humor, and action. Full of twists and coverups.
Fatal Limit is one of Inge-Lisa Goss’s many well-crafted suspense mysteries. This particular story begins with Dora Stephens witnessing the death of her best friend’s aunt Sheila. Seeing Sheila’s collapse, Dora just knows something is off with her death. Was she murdered or did she die of natural causes? As PI Dora feels she must look into Sheila’s mysterious demise. Why did she die, was it because of a jealous rival or did she know too much? If you want to find out you must read this “spellbinding medical thriller”. Fatal Limit is a non-stop page-turner.
I was gifted this book by the author and I decided to volunteer to read and review
I tend to have a short attention span when it comes to a new book, it can take a few chapters for me to really get pulled in. It wasn’t like that with Fatal Limit. I was pulled into the story immediately and couldn’t wait to find out how the story ended. I loved the suspense and crime, and the fact that I didn’t predict the ending!
Inge-Lise Gross is new to me.
I wasn’t completely sure what to expect but I thoroughly enjoyed this suspense, page turner book.
This book kept me glued to the book with all the twist and turns. The suspense was intense at times but with it came some humor.
I highly recommend this book.
Dora, a private investigator, is on her way to take her best friend’s aunt out to wind down. As she’s walking towards the hospital in the rain, she sees Sheila stumbling down the sidewalk without her raincoat and looking back towards the hospital. She tries calling it to her, but Sheila walks right out into the street in front of a car! I really enjoyed this thriller. This thriller is similar, yet very different, from most medical thrillers. I loved the main characters. The plot was fantastic with lots of twists and turns. The convoluted family issues really kept me guessing as to who the murderer was. I definitely enjoyed the book and found it hard to put down.
Dora witnesses a friend being hit by a car outside of a hospital. When she tries to get some information on her friend, the hospital records don’t seem to match the circumstances that she knows to be true.
She shares information with her boyfriend, who is a detective and who is also working on the case.
Dora has access to tools like bugs, recording devices and disguises, which the police probably can’t use. She also does some creative investigations.
There are plenty of potential bad guys and she sorts through all of the pieces to solve the case. This is an engrossing medical mystery/investigation.
I listened to the audio version. The narrator was good, and used different voices for the characters. However, the cadence was sometimes a little off.
I would recommend this book to adult readers.
An exciting medical crime mystery that took you on a series of twists and turns till the very end. For me I had a little struggle getting into the story though.
A truly great mystery novel. Dora is a fantastic character she is feisty and determined and you can’t help but want to follow her on her adventures. I loved that the plot had unexpected turns and tangents that made the story more compelling and realistic. I think I might well have found a mystery writer I can come back to again and again.
It’s clear that Goss is in her element in this genre!
Fatal Limit’s heroine is a private investigator named Dora. Her boyfriend is a homicide detective. How the two handle their sometimes entangled cases is part of what makes the narrative work, and keeps it intriguing.
Sheila’s murder is no exception. With all the “experts” saying it was an unfortunate accident, Dora – and her best friend and Sheila’s niece Maddie – are convinced there is far more to this. The fact that Dora was waiting for Sheila when it happened and saw it, goes even further to convince her that this is her case to solve.
Well written, with characters that are so well drawn as to almost be real, Goss is masterful and keeping the suspense flowing. A truly great read that I highly recommend; I’ll be looking for more from this new-to-me author.
