AlexeiI guess the party’s over—for now. When I wake up in the hospital after a DUI car crash, my new NHL team owner gives me an ultimatum – get sober or get packed for the minor leagues. So I talk the talk and go to rehab. I plan to breeze through, get sprung in 30 days or less and hit the road with my new team, the Chicago Blaze. All I have to do is charm my attractive, uptight rehab group … rehab group leader into thinking I’ve changed—how hard could it be?

I see right through Alexei Petrov.
My calling to save addicts from themselves before they self-destruct is deeply personal. Alexei’s hot and successful, sure. But he’s not okay, and he’s got a lot of work to do before graduating from my group. No one’s ever tested my boundaries like he does, though. I fight my desire and keep things professional, because the stakes couldn’t be higher—it’s not just my job that’s on the line, but also his life. The deeper we fall, though, the more he makes me question the mantra I live by: never trust your heart to an addict.

Alexei is book 5 in the Chicago Blaze Series but it can certainly be read as a stand-alone and its a must read for all lovers of hockey romance as well as romance lovers.
Brenda Rothert has given us an emotional roller coaster that will make you smile, have you shearing a tear and at times have you screaming at your e-reader. Alexei is a beautifully written love story that touched me on so many levels, I was captivated by Alexei and his group at the rehab centre and I found myself hoping and praying for the right outcome as this group becomes friends while fighting their own demons and addictions, my heart broke for every single one of them.
Alexei is a bad boy hockey player who has been told get yourself straightened out or walk away from the game and it’s Dr Graysen Wells who comes to his rescue by her straight talking and telling him as it is not what he wants to hear, she is beautiful, caring and compassionate and just what he needs but lines will have to be crossed for this couple to get their HEA and will she be prepared to risk her career for feelings she can’t hide for much longer…..
This book may take us to some dark places with rehab and addictions but it’s also a wonderful love story and as I got to know Alexei I really connected with him and the reasons for his struggles. This is a great addition to a great series and I highly recommend you read not only this book but the rest of the series as well. Can’t wait to see where this very talented author takes us next .
5 star Review Alexei (Chicago Blaze #5) by Brenda Rothert
Although this is the fifth book in the series, it is a stand alone and it is not necessary to have read the previous books. However, do yourselves a favour if you haven’t read them and one click.
Alexei is so swoon worthy, perhaps because there is so much more to him than just being a bad boy hockey player. His strength and determination in overcoming his self inflicted injuries as well as his addiction was inspiring.
I freely admit to numerous snort worthy, laugh out moments whilst reading and I was riveted from the first to the last page.
Brenda Rothert has written a story that you cannot help but become invested in. There were times I laughed and times I cried and on a few occasions I wanted to scream in frustration. However through our it all there was a feeling of hope, strength, and determination in facing down situations that might well knock others out.
This is at times an emotional roller coaster of a read as Alexei and his group at the Rehab centre for substance abuse, are forced to face the harsh realities of their addiction.
Dr. Graysen Wells was the perfect heroine for Alexei, her kind, compassionate and beautiful heart was exactly what he needed and deserved; not to mention her tough love.
Initially Alexei expects to sail through his rehab, just planning to tell his therapist what she wants to hear, but Graysen really challenges him to look deep inside and what he finds certainly opens his eyes to a lot of emotions. It also surprisingly opens his heart to a possible relationship.
Graysen knows the smart thing to do would be to keep things professional and yet she has a hard time ignoring the feelings that Alexei beings to the surface.
Ms. Rothert has written a story that is thought provoking and challenges us as readers. It was extremely well written and she certainly tackled the issues of addiction and rehab with dignity.
I cannot wait for the next book in the Chicago Blaze series.
A great addition to this series. A slow burn forbidden storyline that touches on tough subject matters will keep you invested throughout this read. The chemistry is undeniable and you’ll root for Alexei and Graysen. Can’t wait for Easy’s story.
This story was both romantic as well as moving. Alexei is the rebellious partying brother of our Chicago Blaze team captain Anton. Alexei lives life on the edge and parties as if there is no tomorrow. His athletic ability has come too easily for him and now he is about to pay the piper. Graysen is a therapist at the rehab center where Alexei is sent to complete a sobriety program as well physical therapy so that he may come clean and earn the right to play on his brother’s team. No one knew that the real work was about to begin both physically and emotionally and it included an attraction that they both needed to fight in order for Alexei to achieve his goals. The road to conquering addiction is not easy and it touches the lives of all those involved not just that of the addict. I will warn you this story can be raw at times but addiction in any form is a long hard struggle, fought daily, and sadly not all can bare the cross alone nor forever. Brenda Rothert will bring you to the brink and then bring you back to a place of warmth and love and more importantly understanding and acceptance.

If you love hockey and you love romance then you should check out Alexei! It is not just your average hockey romance story since most of it takes place in an alcohol rehab center but that is what I like best about this story. It is unique and puts our hot alpha hockey man, Alexei in a vulnerable situation where he has to come to terms with why he is living his life this way and he also needs to take responsibility for his mistakes. What he didn’t expect to find through his journey was this beautiful, amazing therapist, Graysen.
Grayson loves helping her patients but there is something special about Alexei. He has not only worked hard for his recovery but he has found a way into her heart and she knows she needs to put her feelings aside and stay professional for both of their sakes. Once he has completed the program they need to give each other time and space apart and then check back to see if they still want to pursue this possible relationship after nine months. If they can do that then maybe they have a chance at a happily ever after.
Wow Alexei’s story blew my mind! 5 hockey sticks for this one!
So we’ve had some interaction with Alexei in his brothers book Anton, and here you get his story! You will fall in love with him, cheer for him as he battles his demons and tries to get better, while also falling for his counselor, Grayson while in rehab.
Grayson has her own demons, but she wants to help people get over their addictions. Can she keep the line professional where Alexei is concerned? Read along and find out!
I loved this story! Brenda did an amazing job with it! Don’t miss this one, grab it asap!
I think the thing I enjoy the most about the books by this author, is that her characters aren’t perfect. They have real problems, and that makes them seem more real, easier to relate to. That’s the case with this book, with Alexei and Graysen. To me, I think it makes this a much better book, than the ones whose characters seem so absolutely perfect!
From the outside, Alexei seems to have the perfect life. I mean, he is a player in the NHL. But underneath, he has a problem, even if he can’t see it as one. And his problem has caught up with his real life and it’s now destroying everything he has worked so hard for. Except, he has one last chance. Even if he doesn’t think it will change anything, he is going to try, even if he has to fake his way through.
Graysen is a helper. Her entire life is dedicated to trying to help the lost ones find their way back. She knows that everyone has problems, and it’s her job to help them find safe, productive ways of coping, instead of ways that destroy lives. But who helps Graysen? Who makes sure she is taking care of herself and coping with everything that is thrown at her on a daily basis?
This book took what could have been a hopeless situation and made it into a HEA. It took what could have been a bleak end for Alexei, and made it into something he could be proud of. And as amazing as his recovery was, he also found love and happiness, and to me, that was just amazing! This was a book that dealt with some serious topics, but in the end, it was a sweet love story, one that healed a lot of hurts, and mended the bridges broken by addictions! I think the author put a lot into this book, and came out with a definite winner!
Alexei is a book.we have all been eagerly anticipating. Brenda from page one you keep us on the edge of our seats with this hot hockey alpha. He is broken and gritty but Graysen is his perfect counterpart. We get so many beautiful moments in this book, and I can’t wait for more stories in the Chicago Blaze.
