Have you ever wondered what your pets are thinking? Inspired by true events, this heartwarming story is told from the perspective of Sneakers, a curious cat with serious emotional baggage. Neglected and ultimately abandoned by his original owner, he compensates for the trauma by overeating and making droll observations about the crazy love life of his new owner… who also happens to be a … a psychologist.
Through paying attention to her work, the loving home she provides and watching her own trials and tribulations, Sneakers learns so much more about life, love and the ways of the world. Both their lives take unexpected turns, both suffer for their own inability to see their inherent worth. But just maybe they can help each other learn the most important lesson of all before it’s too late: If you let it, love can heal even the deepest wounds.
Sometimes you must be willing to take that second chance.

A must-read tale of love, pain, fear, and other universal life lessons as told by one of nature’s most beguiling and observant creatures
Every now and then you come across a book that is so beautifully unique and poignant that it just completely knocks your socks off. That is absolutely this book, which is a blend of women’s fiction, humor, light romance, philosophy, and just some amazing insights on the nature of life and love itself, all told from the perspective of a cat.
Yes, a cat. Despite wondering how exactly that would play out, surprisingly my first thought on reading this was: Why hasn’t anyone done this before? It is absolutely brilliant on every level. But then, cats are so incredibly neurotic and discerning, there’s clearly a lot going on behind their observant and seemingly indifferent façade. And since Sneakers’ mommy is a psychologist, well, there’s even more to him than meets the eye (which is saying something given his not inconsiderable size).
Throughout the narrative, both Sneakers and his mom struggle with being hurt both emotionally and physically and grasping what was truly holding them back from healing from both types of wounds. In the end, Sneakers summarizes it best with this gem: “I had been so afraid to open my heart to her…but she showed me that even though love can hurt, it can also heal.” We all struggle with love, pain, fear, and so much more. It’s why the messages and lessons in this book are so universal and hit so close to home. And it’s why this story is an absolute must-read.

The Cat Who Ate His Tail

REVIEW
Let’s talk about doing stupid things. Months ago, I posted about this charming book and was all set to review within a week or so. Then, I had a bad autoimmune flare that took me out of everything for a bit. Can you guess what happened? I forgot to write my review! I feel terrible. Have you ever done that? I am so sorry to Jacqueline Simon Gunn and Prism.
The Cat Who Ate His Tail (literally fyi) is narrated by Sneakers the cat. Everything is given from a cat’s perspective. Very clever, indeed! Cats are so flipping weird! Maybe some explanation is offered here, or not. Sneakers has not had a great life, rather he’s been abandoned and treated unfairly. Then, he’s adopted by a woman, a psychologist at that, and things are looking better. It turns out that Sneakers and his owner have past hurts and emotional issues to untangle. Life is never perfect, but together, Sneakers and his human might make it through these tough times. We learn all about the woman and her cruddy boyfriend and the concerns in her life. Sneakers observes then dispenses sage advice and wisdom. There are positive words to take away from this book. The method of story telling from the cat is fascinating, bold, humorous and heartbreaking. I laughed and cried over this one, but I’m glad I read it. It’s just that kind of book that shows you something you never understood or realized in a new light. If for nothing more than the cat’s perspective, give this book a try.
