I survived Orientation at Crystal Wing Academy–barely–and now it’s time to learn how to control my power. After destroying a power-sucking slake before he killed my friends, I’m feeling stronger and more confident than ever.Donovan and I are together, I’m pulling in more threads than before, and I have new abilities I’m excited to master… So I might be flunking Magical Creatures & How to … Magical Creatures & How to Tame Them. Not everything comes easy, right?
When I stumble over a dead girl–one of eight Outlings at the Academy–and she’s marked with an O and a #7, it’s clear someone’s copycatting the Outling murders that took place one-hundred years ago.
With the clock ticking down and more Outlings turning up dead, I’ll soon be next. Last time, every Outling at the Academy was murdered.
But the killer is about to learn this Outling wizard won’t go down without a fight.
An exciting new world for Potter fans, filled with magic, suspense, a badass heroine, and flirty romance.

OMG this series just gets better and better! I loved book one but this book is even better with more action, mystery, intrigue, magic and of course our kick ass heroine to save the day! I am loving the world this author has built and the characters and the story continues to grow and you find yourself sucked in and you don’t wanna leave! Can’t wait to read the next book!
I’ve really loved this series. Book 2 did not disappoint. I love the story and the characters. They are well written and developed. The story pulls you in and keeps your interest throughout. This series is getting to be soo good!!!
Oh my gosh what can I say except that I am loving this story even more now. So much has happened like WOW! Never a dull moment! I couldn’t stop reading until finished. That’s how good it was! Fleur is an amazing character & Donovan are perfect together. That ending left my heart aching for them. I can’t wait to find out what happens next! Highly highly recommend this as a must read. You won’t be disappointed.
We have mystery, suspense and tears. Donovan and Fleur are the best, so much going on with their lives. The nightshade are after the outlings. Who are controlling it? How many will die? What really is going on with some of the students? Can they stop it? Will Fleur find out what her skapti is? What’s happened to Donovan?

DRAGONSWORN is the second book in the three-book Outling series. The author says that while each book contains an individual story, there’s an overarching plot connecting all three books/the series. You’ll better enjoy book two, if you’ve read book one. I agree and I would encourage you to read both of these books if you enjoy suspense, sweet romance, and magic. Don’t just read one or the other!
There is enough darkness to keep the older YA intrigued, but not enough to make the younger YA have nightmares. This is a fine edge to keep on that Moonstone Dagger that I suspect Marty Mayberry may have strapped to her own thigh.
With plenty of fantastical creatures and humor the story is a quick-paced magical adventure with just a sprinkling of age-appropriate romance
Note: While I received this book as a gifted ARC via Booksprout, my opinions are my own and are given freely.

“I voluntarily received this book for an honest review”This book kept me reading until the end. I couldn’t put it down.
Fleur, a First Year Outling student, was barely passing her Magical Creatures class, definitely not taming them, but this test meant she had to ride the aldakor which was similar to a giant wolf but with huge curly horns on their heads and long, spiky tails. No one could advance to the next class unless ALL of them passed this test – so it made the other students irritated with her for holding them back. She leapt onto her beast, grabbed its fur, and started to put her leg over its back when a bush or something caught her foot and dumped her … right into a pile of “aldakor doo”. Ewwww!
After a shower and change of clothing, she was late for the Outling Club meeting at the library. Drea still wasn’t there and their president was not pleased at the wait. She didn’t show, so they started the meeting. Eben explained skapti, saying threads are fed to them from the world around them and some of them will find it easier and easier to draw in multiple threads. They then went on to discussing bullies and the meeting ended.
On her way back to her Coven room, Fleur finds a dead girl — one of eight Outlings at the Academy — marked with a number. It appears that someone is copying the Outling murders situation that happened 100 years ago. More Outlings are killed and Fleur is determined to find out what is going on. With her powers increasing, the killer just might find an Outling wizard willing to fight back this time!
I enjoyed the humor and tone in this book as I followed along with Fleur’s adventures. She’s a brave, snarky girl who, although she makes many mistakes, is not afraid to confront problems head-on. Grab your copy and learn more about what’s going on at the Academy, Donovan’s secrets, and more about the horrible thing the sixth family had done to be banished. Lots going on here!
ONE EXCITING ADVENTURE!!!
Holy crap! Marty’s kicking ass and taking names with 100% on point realism that hooks you from the start and reels you in for the duration. All the uncertainty, revelations and speculation along with all that nerve racking drama go hand-in-hand. Toss in intrigue, chaos, mayhem, danger and suspense, you have one incredible page flipping, prize winning delight that launches this baby into a tailspin with staggering impacts. Mastering the ups and downs, weaving a cocoon so intricately and tight, draws you deeper into this tangled web until everything else ceases to exist. A barrage of daunting circumstances and a bevy of inadvertent contingencies propel those conflicting emotions to life smoothly. Hurdling the trials and tribulations keeping pace with a slew of plot twists and sharp turns as we bare witness to the struggles our characters face. The characters and their personalities are original, authentic and realistic with the just enough flaws for diversity. The scenes are so colorfully described it’s easy to interpret each scenario as they play out beautifully. Amazing job Marty, thanks for sharing this little guy with us.
leur is trying to pass her class. She is trying to learn the secrets of the sixth family. When she stumbles upon a dead outling, with a number carved into their body. She knows that someone is after the outling again. She doesn’t know what to do. She hopes they find the person responsible. She is happy she has Donovan and her friends to have her back.
When another student is killed, again with another carving in the body, everyone knows that someone is after outlings and her. She will try to take it upon herself to find out what is going on.
Fleur finds out some more secrets that involve the sixth family, she knows she will have to keep on digging. The dragonfly will only give her vague information.
When Fleur accidently hurts Donovan’s brother, things will get out of control for her. She has to have faith in Donovan and try to be patient.
Donovan will finally share his secret with Fleur, but she will have to make some major decisions with everything going on with her life.
This book was so good. There is so much going on with Fleur and others. I didn’t want to give to much away. I honestly can’t wait for book 3

This book was a great sequel! A lot secrets were revealed in this, more were discovered, and new information popping up left and right all while something or someone is murdering the outlings on campus. In this book we get a look at the other Outlings that are also at the Academy and get a not-so-shocking surprise that somehow Fleur has a greater access to magic than the others. Donovan’s brother even makes an appearance in this book and well..he’s not what you would expect. While Donovan is off with his brother for a lot of the story his presence is still nicely balanced in the book. Most of the plot was centered around the outling deaths on campus while still digging a little further into the overall mystery of the sixth house and Fleur’s past. This has a completely heartbreaking ending so excuse me I’m going to go curl up in a corner with my own baby Cerberus now..

OMG! This second installment blew my mind! As if Fleur hasn’t enough on her plate, what with being an Outling and having to put up with bullying from the Elite, more danger lurks in the Academy. Someone targets Outlings and Fleur is a afraid she’ll be next. Secrets are revealed, and more secrets remain still. Piece by piece, Fleur tries to find more about her skills, as well as to unravel the mystery of her origins. An unexpected twist of fate puts her relationship with Donovan in great peril. Fast-paced, action-packed, full of mystery, suspense and heartbreak, “Dragonsworn” is one of those books you can’t help but read in one sitting. I can’t wait for the next book in the series!!!

A Scarier & Meaner Second Book! 4.5 Stars
Crystal Wing Academy: Dragonsworn, Book #2
Wow, this was an nail biting read!! Fleur is settling in well with her small group of friends & she’s growing ever closer to Donovan! As the 2nd Years start the bullying towards the 8 Outlings in both years increases. They hold weekly meeting to help each other in anyway they can. Fleur puts herself under more & more pressure to excel as the bullying & taunts gets worse. Then on her way back to her Coven Room one night she literally stumbles over a dead body. Its a fellow 1st year, coven mate and Outling!! She has an O with the number 7 gouged into her upper chest, does it stand for “O’utling & that there’s only seven of them now?? Unfortunately the mark disappears before anyone else sees it. Things continue to go down hill for Fleur in many ways as the term continues!! There are some amazing highlights though & she’s starting to grasp bits of information about the 6th Family – finally!
This is another magical read that gripped me from the get go. It has darker themes but it’s interspersed with plenty of light moments too. I’m loving this series & can’t wait for the next book!!
