A brilliant novella in the Paranormal World series. Fairy Lisa is part of the Six (Like a Supernatural Avengers force that helps the peace in a way) and shes indebted to The Elven King – Joo-won. Only their relationship is much more complicated. These two certainly steamed up my kindle with their flirtatious dance around each other that they had going on. Especially Joo-won who had the sexy banter thats for sure. Still this was a story full of action-packed, fast-paced content with characters i really liked. A great read
I have got to stop jumping into this world part way through. This book stands mostly okay as a stand-alone story in terms of Lisa’s experiences. But there’s a lot of past events that are referred to, and there’s a bunch of emotional baggage at play here, that I didn’t completely understand due to my not having read the previous books in the Paranormal World series. However, I’m fascinated by Lisa, the fairy magic of this world, and the powers of The Six. I’ve read some from farther forward in this series, so I’ve heard a few of the rumors about the Elven King. I’m excited to have gotten a chance to see the truth of their start. And I’m still a little rabid to read the rest of the series so I can find out what got them here and what’s going to happen next.
I wasn’t entirely sure what to expect from this book. I was quite interested in reading the first book in the new series by this author, but this book was actually supposed to be some sort of prequel to that book. However, I see that this book is also book 2,5 in another series and I think that explains quite a lot. So, I just started reading this book, preparing for the arc of the other book, to get a feel for the world and to get a feel for the characters.
Since I didn’t read the other two books in the series, there were a few things quite confusing. I’m pretty sure the mythology that wasn’t entirely clear was most likely explained in the first two books of the series. Despite the fact that not all details of the mythology were clear, I had also no issues really following the conflict and the gist of the series. I’m sure I would have loved the book even more if I understood everything, but it still kinda worked.
What I liked about this world and the characters in it is the grayness of everything. It’s quite clear that this world is not entirely black and white. It’s not clear who the good guys are and who the bad guys are. The good guys do things that cross lines. The bad guys sometimes do nice and good things. And I’m therefore quite excited about reading more stories set in this world. I might also be adding the first two books in this series to my wishlist.
One of the reasons I’m even more excited about the first book in the new series, is the characters and their interesting dynamic and positions on the board. I really love those stories where two people actually fight on opposite sides and then discover that maybe they might like each other a little more than they should. The premise of the new series is also quite clearly introduced and I can’t wait to see how it’s gonna play out.
Good novella in the series. Loved the exploration of her burgeoning powers. Drama abounds and a hot sinister elf king make for interesting reading. Looking forward to more in this series. Highly recommended.
