This is a story of unspoken words and how loud they can be.Connor Bourke and I met when we were twelve years old. He was a quiet boy with so much to say and only one way to say it—through song. He’d lost his best friend to cancer, so I showed him there was love and life in loss, and to hold on to his memories, always.Eloise Mitchell was a blazing fire when my world turned dark. She’d shined so … blazing fire when my world turned dark. She’d shined so bright and burned so fierce that the wall I’d built around myself simply melted to the ground at her feet.
We shared everything together:
Our first kiss,
first love,
first mistake,
and first regret.
She taught me to speak,
to forgive,
and to never forget.
Through his music, he could say all he needed to say except for, ‘I love you’.
I could never tell her those three words.
Yet, I knew he meant them, that he loved me beyond all measure, beyond time
… beyond a broken heart.
I loved her more than anything.
Our bond was unbreakable.
Our love was ever after.
But, then, we tend to destroy the ones we love the most.
And all bonds break, especially when the heart is what holds them together.more
Absolutely beautiful! Heartfelt, heart breaking and heart mending, Unspoken Words is a love story I will not easily forget. Connor and Ellie have engraved themselves on my own heart, with their light, kindness and the joy they experience in each other.
This is a story that spans the years creating a sense of depth as we see the passage of time, the twists and turns of life and the enduring nature of love, even when it doesn’t always run smoothly.
This is a book to relish. It has a strength to the story telling which will have me thinking about it for a very long time. Wonderful!
Real life love isn’t all sunshine and rainbows. Ellie and Connor’s story is a real life love story. I laughed, I swooned, I cried.
Eloise and Connor, two people who have always been together but still even years apart they still find each other. They met when they were children, Connor feeling alone, lost and in a blink of an eye little sunshine Eloise changes everything with a smile and words. We see them grow, fights and first loves yet through it all three little words are never said. K.M. Golland shows us that some times men really are stupid when it comes to matters of the heart but we see a man fighting to get what is his back. Now Eloise is a fighter and even though she moves on Connor is always there making her want for so much more. One thing for sure K.M. Golland should have posted a beware for this book it got me everywhere and be prepared this book will throw you of course in a beautiful, sweet and loving way. Loved it.
“I received an eBook copy from the publisher for the purpose of an honest review. I was not compensated for this review: all conclusions are my own.”
If you want a story that will make you feel every emotion and then some, without a traditional HEA, this is the book for you.
Meeting one summer at the age of 12, Ellie and Connor are drawn to each other like a moth to a flame. Connor had just lost his best friend to cancer and will hardly speak to anyone and Ellie is determined to help ease his pain and help him find light in the darkness. They form a friendship that summer with a bond so strong, it will never be broken. After awhile, the two become more than friends and continue on together through most of high school until an argument leads to mistakes being made that this pair may not be able to come back from.
Can these two find their way back to each other and forgive past hurts?
I loved the bond that Connor and Ellie shared. It is truly a bond that a good romance is made of. The struggles they face and the ups and downs are realistic and heart and gut-wrenching at the same time. This was the roller coaster of all roller coasters in a book and for that, I say a job well done by KM Golland. I struggled with writing my review because while the story was beautiful, I had high hopes for a better ending. Overall, a well-written book and I am open to reading this author again.
Connor and Ellie were soul mates. But when he broke her heart with his betrayal, she moved away and didn’t come back for years. Now she’s back, though, and he’s determined to have the second chance he knows they deserve. Will Ellie let him back into her life? Or is her broken heart closed to him forever?
Unspoken Words is a heartbreaking tearjerker of a story. No spoilers here, I’ll just say, have a box of tissue handy because you’re going to need it while you’re reading Connor and Ellie’s story of love, betrayal, second chances, and heartbreak.
Oh, my poor, battered and bruised heart! K.M. Golland’s latest standalone novel was heartrending, and I may have needed tissues numerous times throughout, but I refuse to say that it left my heart broken. Did my heart ache for the main characters? Yes, it did, and that heartache was a near constant, taking a break only when hope and happiness for Connor Burke and Eloise Mitchell take its place. You see, Unspoken Words isn’t “just” a romance; no, this wondrously moving novel is the story of a love that surpasses time and the tests that come along the way, so that no matter what the ending may be, what readers need to remember most is the journey Connor and Ellie shared. Another thing that readers must not forget is to have tissues on hand because you’re going to need them.
I have adequate enough words to explain why this book moved me as much as it did, but I feel as if it deserves more than adequate from me. My first and only read from K.M. Golland was back in 2017, and Plight had already clued me in that this author was one to watch. I admit that I’ve been remiss in keeping an eye out for her work, but when I read the blurb for this novel and saw her name attached to it, I knew it was time to reacquaint myself with her writing. To say that Golland has a way with words is an understatement, and the fact that she stuck to her guns and told Connor and Ellie’s story the way she wanted to makes me want to give her a standing ovation. In this day and age where happy endings are a must in books, a novel like Golland’s Unspoken Words is a reminder that happily-ever-afters are commonplace and stories like Connor and Ellie’s tale is damn extraordinary. Five-plus stars.
I don’t know if my heart has recovered since I read the last page of this book. Oh wait. No, I know it hasn’t. My poor heart was pummeled while reading this book. This book was so beautiful. Hauntingly beautiful. It was filled with such insightful thoughts and lessons.
The quote below blew me away. It is so true, insightful, and full of love.
“People come into our life all the time. They come and they went, and they left their mark. Sometimes, that mark was subtle and, sometimes, it was more intense. But then, sometimes, if we were lucky, a person came along and marked our existence so profoundly we felt as if the earth had shifted from its axis, and the affinity shared was so overpowering it stole the air from our lungs. Sometimes, we met a person who left us breathless and, for me, that person was Connor”.
That quote right there is absolutely amazing. It’s profound, breathtaking, and full of inspiration. The whole book was like this. It took my breath away. It definitely took some of my tears. The writing was top notch. The story line was great. I loved how we got three different parts of Connor and Ellie. I loved that the chemistry and back story was well developed. I loved the witty banter. The connection these two felt. It was just an all around great story.
4.5 stars
Its been a while since KM Golland gave us her wonderful words and well she outdid herself with this one. It was gripping from start to finish, a real roller-coaster of emotions as she had me laughing and crying. Obviously KM decided to play with our emotions in this one and she did it brilliantly. I need one very large glass of wine after I finished this.
Its hard to write this review without raving about the book but that would spoil your enjoyment. You need to go into this book with a clear mind to experience every high and every low, to feel everything.
Well done KM Golland on another fantastic read.
Wow. I am still trying to get a hold of my emotions after reading Unspoken Words. You know going into it based on the blurb that this is going to be a deeply emotional read, but you have NO CLUE! KM Golland did a fantastic job of creating her characters so REAL and RAW that you cannot help but be swept into the story and life that they are living.
There are happy times, there are sad times, there are hopeful times as Unspoken Words spans YEARS. This book is like an emotional roller coaster in the best possible ways. I definitely was NOT expecting quite a few things to go down the way that they did, but knew that there were reasons for it even if I wasn’t too happy about them.
All in all if you are sucker for emotional second chance romances, Unspoken Words is a MUST read– like LEGIT, a MUST READ for you! It is one of the most emotionally charged books that I have read in 2019. Make sure you have tissues handy because you are going to need it. I dare you to read this book and not get choked up! I give this a huge 5 outta 5 stars, now I just need to get my emotions in check!
PS: Thank you to KM Golland and Social Butterfly for allowing me the pleasure of having an advanced copy of this amazing book to read and review honestly!
Heartbreakingly beautiful ,a deeply moving and thought provoking read that will stay etched in my heart “ever after”
This is my first book by K.M. Golland and it will definitely not be my last!!
K.M has written a beautiful story of the truest kind of love, a love that transcends a lifetime.
Connor and ellies story will make you laugh ,cry, swoon but also have you wanting to throw your kindle shouting ” why did you do that” ……just so that fate can intervene and bring everything back how is should be put a smile back on your face in order to rip your heart from your chest and stamp all over it!!!
Yep my favourite kind of book…..
A book written so beautifully it pulls every emotion possible out of you that it all feels real, characters that are so relatable you just want to pick up the phone and check in, because at the end of the day connor and ellies story is not one of just fantasy and fiction but it’s a story that is real.
WHAT A ROLLER COASTER READ! Connor and Ellie meet after Connor goes through something traumatic as a kid and relocates to the same town as Ellie and she becomes the only person to get through to him and bring him out of his shell. Years later, they pair become a couple and so in love that it becomes somewhat obsessive between them, but when a misunderstanding causes them to take a break and then Connor makes a mistake that ends them completely, Ellie leaves for college and never looks back. Years later, Ellie returns to town for a job offer, only to find out Connor is the one behind it. With a little getting to know each other again as adults, the pair end up back together and their feelings just as strong as they once were. But of course there is a twist that threw me so far that I was so shocked and was on the edge of my seat about! I was not expecting the ending and my heart broke for this couple! I really enjoyed the second chance with this couple and the epilogue was bittersweet, but my heart broke over how the book ended.
I voluntarily read and reviewed an Advance Reader Copy of this book.
This book has me in awe. This book made me ugly cry. Not once. Not twice. But three times! This is a book full of powerful words. It is sweet. It is funny. It is infuriating. It is sad. It is touching. It is meaningful.
I haven’t read a book this emotionally strong in a long time. I dove in expecting/wanting/needing to cry a little bit. I was wrong. I cried a lot. It has all the emotions waiting for you, tucked away into little nooks n crannies waiting to be unleashed.
I loved the way the storyline flowed naturally. I’m not a huge fan of flashbacks because if they aren’t done correctly it can be confusing. This story followed Ellie and Connor from childhood to ever after and beyond. I loved to follow how many times “Connor Bourke stole my air” from Ellie because he stole mine at the same time. It was at this part though that Ellie was the one who stole my air…
“And what do you owe me?” he asked, his tear-soaked eyes pleading. Walking to the door, I opened it, paused, and looked back. “I owe you me.”
This is one of those books that you’ll wish you could reread like it was the first time every time because the first time you read it will be all encompassing. I hope you enjoy the ride as much as I did!
What a book to pick as my first one by this author. My absolute favourite second chance romance of the year.
Connor and Ellie’s story is one you live with them. Through friends to lovers we see them at their best and worst. From their first meeting the story had me enthralled. We are along for the ride as they grow into young adults. I rejoiced in their love and cried at their pain.
I recommend having a survival kit of wine and tissues to hand. A truly beautifully written story that will make you a believer of true unselfish undying love.
A Thousand Boy Kisses by Tillie Cole was my favorite rip your heart out kind of book but K.M. Golland was by far my favorite rip your heart and soul put it back together only to rip it apart again kind of book!! I laughed, I cried and sobbed, I just don’t have the words want an epic love story!!
This book blew me away, it was a super powerful second chance romance with a side of angst that it was just wow!
What an emotional read, wow, this one definitely has it all; it made me laugh, smile and occasionally want to grind my teeth. KM Golland has written a really good story here which kept me reading to the very end. It is a story told with emotion and from the heart.
The first chapter sets the scene with a big hitter, then it settles down. For me, it was a little slow for the first half and I thought it was going to go down a well-written path but boy was I wrong. The story ramped up with a very unexpected storyline, which took my breath away.
Ellis and Conner are the two main characters in this story and I loved them both. Going from early teens through to adults these two are well written and very well developed. They drew all the emotions from me as I read and it was lovely watching them grow together. The secondary characters complete the story with their great characterisation.
This story is a one you definitely want to read but do have some tissues to hand, you will need them. Books don’t often all-out make me cry but this one did. It stole my heart and I loved it, well done KM Golland.
