A Sunday night turns deadly when someone loses more than just money… Summer in Aurora Heights is in full swing, and I’m more busy than ever training for my grandmother’s annual charity run. It’s not as fun as it sounds, since I’m a sweaty mess every morning. Fortunately, Grandma Gertie has teamed up with a handsome new man in town. He’s tall, charming and a breath of fresh air for me on the … for me on the dating scene.
But he’s not the only newcomer to the little mountain town. The seniors are all in a tizzy when a mysterious old man comes back to Aurora Heights. They call him a liar, a cheat and a con artist. And when a prominent businessman ends up dead, secrets among the seniors are threatening to be revealed.
Who is this mysterious stranger? Could he really be the one behind this death? More importantly, why don’t my friends like my new boyfriend? All simple questions for Aurora Heights’s new investigative journalist.
Perfect for fans of Amanda M. Lee, Julia Buckley, Amanda Flower or Ellery Adams. This cozy mystery is book 2 of the Lainey Boggins Mysteries series but can be read on its own.

Lainey and Grandma Gertie are preparing for a charity run. Gertie is also trying to play matchmaker for Lainey. But as handsome as James is, is he a good guy for Lainey? After a murder occurs Lainey is back into her investigator reporter role, along with still training for the run, which is hilarious by her descriptions!
This was a great mystery to unravel and the characters are really fun.

Lainey has her own series, writing about training for the 5k. Fun second book, full of humor, a touch of romance and murder. Cannot wait to read the next book by this author

The 5k run is coming to Aurora Heights and Lainey is a bit smitten with the new guy her Grandma has teamed up with. But he isn’t the only new person in town, there is also Hutch Rickson who has returned. The senior citizens of the town aren’t all that happy to see him. When Mr. Chapley is found dead, Lainey can’t help but investigate as to who would kill him. Yes, he wasn’t a ‘bundle of joy’ but still, no need to kill him…or was there? You will need to read the book to see how all this ends. I voluntarily reviewed a copy of this book from Booksprout.
I love the characters and their relationships. The setting of this small town is a character all by itself. The story was well written and had plenty of twists.

Lainey is training for the Aurora Heights 5K Charity Run. The unexpected appearance of a scoundrel who destroyed lives years ago, an unexpected death, and an unexpected attack makes Lainey determined to find the answers to this perplexing mystery. Bylines and Betrayals has twists, surprises, and characters I enjoy. I recommend the entire series.

Ironic humor with apt placement.
Relationships, especially possibly romantic ones are tricky. Not a big fan of knowing that the dude ate paste in the third grade. Also not fun if you were Plainey Lainey.
As if her self esteem had not yet suffered enough having a cheater ex boyfriend, getting totally friend zoned by your long time crush sucks. So does actually liking his girl. Bleh. Too familiar, but a lot funnier when it’s Lainey.
Fun storytelling and style with flair makes some sad life events and more tragic responses still part of an overall light hearted and touching small town life and adventures.

This is a compelling cozy mystery with fabulous characters. I love Aurora Heights and this summer story is a great break from the cold ice I am living with. This book is well-written with plenty of twists to keep me guessing to the end. I am looking forward to the next book by this author.

This is the second book in the new series featuring Lainey Boggins, who has a talent for finding the real story behind a crime while working her job as a reporter for her small town newspaper. After she returns home with a broken heart, her grandmother is determined to play matchmaker; and when Lainey meets the charitable recipient of the Aurora Height’s Annual Charity Run, she is immediately attracted to the handsome hunk. After a death and a malicious attack, Lainey’s research leads her to her grandmother’s past circle of friends and the mystery surrounding the disappearance of one of them. As she draws closer to the truth, danger lurks nearby, threatening to stop her investigation. Lainey’s sleuthing talents are evident, but will her determination result in answers or more questions? I love the small town atmosphere and the interesting characters that live there. The sexual tension between Nick DeLuca, the cop, and Lainey is still present and it is apparent to almost everyone else. Hopefully, there is a future for these two as the series continues. I look forward to the next case. Note: I received an ARC from the author, but this review is my honest opinion.
Love this series! I cannot wait to see what happens between Lainey and Nick too.
This book has our intrepid reporter training for a 5k charity run organized by her grandmother. She gets her first series documenting her progress. Meanwhile Lainey is also investigating the death of grumpy Mr. Chapley and trying to find out why Hutch Rickson is back in town. She also becomes the primary caregiver to Fuzz Butt after April’s allergies force Dylan to remove the cat from the cafe and his home. Once again her life is put at risk before Nick comes to her rescue. Highly recommend.
