On the run in the Colony, with an assassin on her tail and her newly-awakened magic a complete mystery to her, Emilea needs a miracle. What she gets is more than she bargained for.To protect the family name and rid himself of his misfit daughter, Emilea’s father strikes a deal to surrender her to the Colony, a hostile supernatural settlement on a far-off planet. Emilea wakes up in an unfamiliar … in an unfamiliar world, drugged and shipped there against her will.
Now that she’s imprisoned on a planet far from home, with a bulls-eye on her back and a father who would stop at nothing to see her dead, Emilea has a decision to make. Trust the stranger she meets in the tunnels beneath the Colony —or risk it all and flee, forever a fugitive.

Are Emileas two different color eyes just a fluke of nature, or is there something else going on? Emilea is a non entity in her own family. Her mother having died when she was very young. Her father has no use for her, so he sends her against her will to “the colony”. Once there someone tries to kill her. She has to learn who to trust to survive, but surprisingly she also learns who/what she truly is. A wonderful short read. I still don’t know how this author packs so much in, and yet the book doesn’t feel rushed! A must read even if it’s not your normal genre!
Fast read, straight and to the point. Too fast a read to be able to figure out whodunit before you find out who did it. Very well thought out. Perfect read if you have a couple of hours you need to wait. Great story!

OMG THAT ART WORK IS OUT OF THIS WORLD AND AMILEA’S OUTFIT IS HOT, HOT, HOT, SUPER SEXY AND SHE ROCKS IT LIKE A TOTAL BAD ASS!
AMILEA’S NOT YOUR TYPICAL DADDY’S LITTLE RICH GIRL SOCIALITE DRIPPING IN FUR’S & JEWELS, THROWING CHARITY FUNCTIONS & SUAREZ, OH NO THIS GAL’S MORE LIKELY TO THROW A PUNCH OR TWO!!
Another quick short read novella which I read in less than half an afternoon!
Although Small in Quantity, it’s Huge on Stature and Big on Quality.
Definitely worth the price asked by the author. So if you’re short on time,
And want a Great Quick Read Guaranteed, This Is The Book For You!
I’ve been having a bad day as I read this book, feeling off all day. If it was evening I could have been overcome it, with a tonne of chocolate and a glass of two of red wine, but during daylight hours, I believe it’s best to just read instead.
What a shame I’d finished it b4 6pm! But hey I still have to write my review, so now where’s that Chocolate & the Great South Aussie (no, not our dear author Jane), but our Delicious other South Aussie Classic, The Barrossa Valley Shiraz or Merlot! (Adelaide is known as the City of Churches and Her Wineries for a reason)! So Jane My Friend, this, the raise of my glass is to you and for you, for this great book I just adore. One of your finest!!!
(There’ll be none of that Sweet Sickly Sticky Stuff, Southern Comfort & Coke for Me (Blah, more for you, Lol)!
As usual its so easy to fall in love with Jane’s Characters. They are full of depth, usually complex and have a flaw or two and are just like hundreds of people we
all know (well except for the powers thing & if their Alien, but then again there is that guy that lives across the road…).
Amilea & Maddax are a perfect couple together (although he does make it quite difficult, how can Amilea possibly place her trust the man who told her he loves her so soon and will he be able to make up for his betrayal and mistakes?
Well only time will tell. They’re so real, full of heart and passion, intelligent with a fire in their bellies and a knockout punch in their fists.
But it’s not just the major players in this book we fall in love with, you have Tomb, Amilea’s Manager (he may live on the seedier side of the Colony and he may smell like the sewage from the tunnels he organizes his illegal fights in), but this Irish Criminal Sweetheart and bit of grumpy has a heart of gold and won this gal over too! Such a sweet caring decent older human being!
Another favourite Character/s of mine even though both women played only minor roles (one so small if you blinked, you might miss her appearance on a page ; are) Aaliyah the Earth Fae (whom reminds me of a big warm enveloping hug & sunshine, And Eimear (but I’ll come to her next, ).
Aaliyah : She seems like a beautiful old soul, like everyone’s favourite Grandma or do you remember those loving caring woman in the our local communities, you know the type, the one’s who although a Mother, looks out for the whole community & every kid in it (well in my street as a child growing up in the 70’s & 80’s in Adelaide, Australia it was Auntie Barb (Arthur) may your soul RIP. We’ll forever love & treasure you, and thanks for all the band aids & patch up jobs over the years).
And Eimear… Once again we don’t know that much about this character & I can’t not go into too much detail or I’ll give away spoilers which just is Not Ok.
This woman truly shines, she’s as bright as the midday sun and at night as dazzling as the brightest star.
She’s warm, caring and full of wisdom beyond her years. A gentle soft soul, who’s been through Hell personally, but has a few tricks up her sleeves.
And her desperate search across the Galaxy, she finds what she once lost.
Wow What a Piece Of Work Amilea’s Father is actually I’d love to go further and say what a piece of Bleep!
How could any father treat his his child with such malice and hatred. To drug your child & ship them to another planet against their will is beyond low.
This is one character I’d love to see get his!
Considering the story is situated on a foreign planet the one thing I found lacking in the story was the world building but is a short novella . I’d love to seeing a lot more detail on the areas the characters lived, loved, played and ruined as well as maybe more information about the creatures / critters.
Yes we did hear a little bit about the forest we did hear a little bit about the jungle but nothing really of the vegetation or the rock formations and how it differs from Earth. It could also expand the storyline making a larger novel, but that obviously was not Ms Hinchey’s intent.
This is one constant element I do find lacking in many of Jane’s books, there’s never too much of a detailed description of clothing costumes, homes, living quarters, buildings / offices structures / places of worship and the environment as a whole other than the mention of a forest or jungle area and considering there a few books set in foreign places & planets.
In saying that though, Jane does excel in so many other areas of her writing, charcter development, love scenes, and storyline and has a fairly successful process going, so this one small area may not be her forte or an area she could consider a challenge & attack with her usual pride & gusto.
Reading this final chapter, the emotions of Ms Hinchey’s writing overcame me so completely, a lump the size of Uluru formed in my throat blocking my breath. The Tears welling in my eyes finally escaped, cascading like a damn bursting its embankments, running over the rims of my inner lids, no longer able to hold back the flood which was now freely flowing down my cheeks, neck and into my hair!
Wow boy oh boy has Jane’s writing with emotions, and true heart & soul improved dramatically since her earliest books. Seriously there’s just no comparison. Kudos Jane & while where at the congrats stage, In reading 2 of your books in the past 2 afternoons I only came across 1 simple error.
To me it looked like when our computers are spell checking & auto correct the word we want, for a similar sounding one, making the sentence incorrect and not a true spelling error, but a computer generateded one. But There Were None, I Repeat, Not A Single One In This Book, Nor Any Storyline ARC’s That Suddenly Change A Character’s Eyes From 1 Colour to Another In A Later Scene!
You, your editor (if you use one), your ARC & BETA Teams are quite the combo & I’m happy & proud to now be a part of that team! I Love Your Books, Please Keep Pumping Them Out. That last scene is so beautifully written.
Packed full of emotions, the range of which you go through in such a short period of time is phenomenal!
Its jammed full of heart, soul, love, heartache, loss, compassion, pure bliss & joy. Easily some of Jane’s finestest works.
**But as a side note : You may wish to have the tissues on hand!
