A government facility, mysterious patients locked away from the world, and a doctor who’s lab “accident” has turned him into something more than a man. This is the strange and secretive workplace where Candy is hired for what is basically a highly paid housekeeping position but she has no idea what is in store for her when she volunteers to take over cleaning the room of the aforementioned doctor, Hart Redmond.
From the very first words of the erotic opening scene, this book had me under a spell. Dr Hart Redmond is a tantalizing, terrifying mix of man and monster. Like a moth to a flame, Candy is drawn to him despite her trepidation, and as much as she tries to fight it, Hart easily masters her. I can see how some people could have a problem with this because Candy is saying no, which he completely disregards, but the truth is, her body is saying yes because her secret desires are being fulfilled. Hart and Candy’s complicated relationship provides them both with something they need – him, a human touch and a bit of humanity, and her, the means to not only take care of a sick mother, but an exploration of her sexuality as well
I couldn’t put this book down but the unexpected cliffhangerish ending was a little disappointing to me which is why I am giving this 4.5 stars. I received a free copy of this book. This review was posted voluntarily.
P.S. The book cover in no way fits this story. It’s a little thing but I couldn’t let that slip by.
Extremely entertaining, captivating and interesting sexy read. I could not put it down. Wonderfully written with strong, intriguing characters. I want to read more from this author.

As a long time reader of CF, I jumped at the chance to read ran ARC of this newest release. The SciFi angle snagged me and when I dove in I was very excited to read it was also a bit historical. Yum!
Hart of the Matter has the trademark CF twisty timeline, that she does so well and of course all the other lovely things one expects from her. In spades.
I broke my Dd teeth with Carolyn Faulkner. For me she’s mostly a hit, with the occasional slight miss (again for me, because you know… tastes.) This one was an absolute hit.
The ending definitely leaves the reader with a sequel set up, I’m lead to believe with more of Candy and Hart. But fear not -this wasn’t a cliffhanger. More like a set up for more. And I can’t wait!
