“This is a STANDALONE paranormal young adult book that will transport you back to when you first fell in love with the genre. For fans who love Beetlejuice, Twilight, The Addams Family, and Goosebumps.” The only good club is a dead one. Fifteen-year-old Harper J. Here the dead outnumber the living ten to one, and strange occurrences are a way of life. Most of the residents choose to ignore the odd quirks of the small Victorian town.
But not Harper.
She’s perfectly content to spend her days in the graveyard, reading paranormal romance books at the foot of a tombstone. Like many girls her age, she obsesses over boys. However, it’s her taste for all things strange and unusual that prompt her to start a club.
A pulse isn’t required, but a flair for ghoulish fun is.

This was my first Rue Volley’s book. This is the first book in the Club Dead Series. The story is set in Juniper Hollow, a very special small Victorian town. The characters are wonderful. Harper is lovely, innocent, and smart. Killian is such an intriguing character. The supporting characters are fantastic. I loved the friendship in this story. The storyline is captivating, and intriguing. The ending is unexpectedly twisted. The writing is unique, enthralling, and fascinating. This story is definitely jaw-droppingly beautiful. Caitlin Kelly does an amazing job with the narration. She has a beautiful voice, and easy to understand. She has a great range of voices. She is perfect as Harper, giving her a voice filled with innocence, and strength. She does a wonderful interpretation as Killian. This is so different than what I have listened until now! This story is unforgettable and haunting. I enjoyed it! #caffeinated
This was a quirky and fun book with quite a few twists that are unexpected. The narrator was perfection. Harper J Ellis is a precocious 15 year old who loves to read, no lives to read, all things paranormal and lives in a town that celebrates Halloween and everything paranormal since it is so close to Salem. I normally would not even pick up a YA but I really enjoyed this one and will be recommending it to my granddaughters. Make sure to read/listen all the way to the end, it is extremely unexpected but definitely made me smile!
Do not let the title of this book fool you! This book will speak to the heart of any obsessive book lover and especially those who like books whose love interest is not a regular human boy. I relate to the main character on so many levels! First may I suggest if you do not know what gothic lolita clothing is you look up some images? It’s super cute clothes popular in Japan and Harper loves these clothes. Knowing what the style looks like will help you picture everything better.
Harper loves books, and her favorite place to read is the cemetery where no one will interrupt her. I’m with her on this one, I get super grumpy when I get interrupted lol. One day she meets Killian and her life gets disrupted. She decides to create The Dead Boy’s Club which is a book club for anyone who likes books with supernatural guys in them. When things start to change around town, Harper and her friends decide to take action. Killian is determined to spend time with Harper and Harper is just as determined to not like a normal guy.
The world building is excellent and the characters are so relate-able. I could so easily picture myself as Harper and her friends my own quirky crew. The story is part teenage angst and part teen romance with little pieces of a ghost story. I was so drawn to this story that I finished it and then raved to my teenager about how she needed to read it. It is a really good story that is kind of an ode to people who obsess over books and the characters in them.
I loved this book and not because the main character has my daughter’s name lol. I loved Juniper Hollow and all the characters I wish I lived there. Rue tells a great story and I would recommend this book to everyone
I did NOT see that coming!
Being thrown back into the confused mind of a 15 year old booknerd. Whew, it was trippy. I could relate to so many of her thoughts though, once I got them straight. Very well done, Rue.
The only good club is a dead one!
