She knows the behavioral science behind any problem… except for the one in her heartFor thirty-two years, Laney Travers has handled a lot of problems, but a relationship with a white man wasn’t one. Her love affair with gorgeous Tie Stevens seemed destined, however. She fell in love with his voice over the radio waves nearly three years ago. When Laney finally crosses paths with Tie at his talk … with Tie at his talk and book signing, sparks fly between the two, and like two moths to flickering lights, they find themselves inseparable in bed and out of it.
But are they?
As a psychology professor, Laney can’t help but evaluate her interracial relationship through a socio-political lens, a cause of potential strife. Tie disagrees but secretly worries about maintaining his relationship with Laney because of his self-made status. When it comes to diplomas, he doesn’t stack up.
And Laney has a shameful secret that is enough to keep her from admitting her emotions. Is their chemistry one for the books or just a theory?

Degrees in Love was an interesting novel. It began like a typical romantic tale: boy meets girls and boy gets girl. Then the author had the girl go off on a tangent, and a nonsensical one at that. The way Laney, a main character, and some of her African American colleagues from academia reacted to her interracial relationship with Tie, the other main character, seemed immature and inappropriate for the action to be in a contemporary setting. Their actions seemed more appropriate for the sixties or seventies. However, the author had Laney attempt her mea culpa and, somehow, everything got back on track. It was an interesting ride!
Tie is a radio host and one of his biggest fans is Dr. Elaine Travers. She is able to meet him at a conference and for him it is almost love at first sight. He is only catching up with her….she has loved his voice for three years. Their path is complicated but the pay out is worth the read.
I RECEIVED AN ARC COPY FROM TULE FOR AN HONEST REVIEW.
THIS BOOK FOR ME WAS VERY GOOD. I ENJOYED THE STORY AND THE CHARACTERS. LANEY TRAVERS IS A PROFESSOR AND THE BOOK OPENS WITH HER ATTENDING A TALK GIVEN BY A RADIO SHOW TALK SHOW HOST THAT SHE LISTENS TO. SHE WOULD LIKE TO HAVE HIM SIGN HER BOOK WHICH WAS HIS LATEST WRITTEN COPY. WHEN THEY MEET BOTH ARE LOCKED THROUGH THEIR EYES. LATER WHEN SHE READS THE INSCRIPTION SHE SEES HE HAS ALSO LEFT HIS PHONE NUMBER. THOUGH ATTRACTED SHE DOES NOT KNOW WHETHER TO CALL OR NOT. SHE DOES. HE LEAVES THE NEXT DAY FOR HIS HOME TOWN AND SHE FEELS GOOD YET SAD.
WEEKS LATER SHE FINDS OUT THAT TIE STEVENS IS MOVING TO HER HOME TOWN AND HE WANTS TO BE TOGETHER. NOW AS MUCH AS SHE WANTS TO BE WITH HIM HER ISSUE IS THAT SHE IS AFRICAN AMERICAN AND HE IS WHITE. SHE FINDS HERSELF QUESTIONING HERSELF THROUGH HER FRIENDS ARE GIVING POSITIVE REINFORCEMENTS SHE BEGINS TO DOUBT HERSELF WHICH EFFECTS THEM AS A COUPLE. CAN THEY GET PAST HER MIND TO BE TOGETHER? BEING IN AN INTERRACIAL RELATIONSHIP FOR OVER FORTY YEARS I FOUND THIS STORY TO BE VERY INTERESTING. MANY OF THE TERMS THE AUTHOR USED I ACTUALLY HEARD ESPECIALLY FROM FAMILY. FORTY YEARS LATER NO ONE REMEMBERS BUT AT TIMES STILL GET LOOKS FROM PEOPLE THAT HAS NEVER CHANGED I THINK NEVER WILL.
THE AUTHOR HAS DONE A WONDERFUL JOB IN WRITING WHAT IT IS LIKE AND I FOUND THIS STORY TO BE VERY GOOD AND I HOPE PEOPLE WILL TAKE THE TIME TO READ IT. I GAVE THIS BOOK FIVE STARS. FOLLOW US AT http://www.1rad-readerreviews.com
Laney rushes into the meeting room trying to get seated to hear Tie Stephens. She listens to him on the radio every night. She “fan girls” over him. She has his new book that she wants to have autographed and when she gets close to him she gets flustered that she almost forgot to have him sign it.
When Tie does sign it, he puts something that surprises both of them in the autograph. He meets up with her for dinner before he leaves town but he doesn’t tell her that he is moving to town in a couple of weeks with the show.
A really good book that I think you will enjoy
First book from a new author and I liked it. One of the things that I liked was that it was so different from what I was used to reading. It gave me things to think about and ponder. Things that yes sadly some folks might find a bit touchy but hey out there this book IS True to life and that is what makes it so good in my book. Author Tavi Wayne gives us a story of two people who are attracted to each other in-spite of their differences on so many levels. Not just on the surface, yes I am speaking they are of two different races but also they are on two different levels as far as education level. So many people worry that if one person has more education than the other than it will create issues especially if the one who is better educated is the female. Like I said this book is so life like it is not funny. But as in real live look deep into the book or not. I read this book twice and enjoyed it both times. First time was the ARC (advanced review copy) second time was the book after it came out.
Degrees in Love by Tavi Wayne is Tie Stevens and Laney Travers’ story.
This story covers some difficult topics such as sexual harassment, different educational backgrounds, and interracial relationships.
Laney and Tie were entertaining characters. Upon meeting there was and immediate attraction between them. The story covers their relationship struggles and how they work through them to get their HEA. I voluntarily reviewed an Advance Reader Copy of this book.
An enjoyable read that touches on many subjects, interracial dating, sexual harassment, education level. Basically love is love, no matter what your skin color or level of education is and you can’t fight that. Loved the characters, plenty of humor.
This is a new author for me and I look forward in reading more. I recommend this book.
Loved this meet cute romance between these two characters Tie and Laney.
Degrees in Love is by a Tavi Wayne, anew author for me to read. This is a flirty fun read with two confident professionals yet who doubt themselves in regard to relationships. If only they knew what the other was thinking.
A cute romance story that turns serious. At the beginning I thought this may be too racy for the Hallmark channel but would be a good fit otherwise. I thought that educational backgrounds would be the main problem of the story, boy was I wrong. Social issues come into play that change it from cute to this s real life with all the blunders, accidents, judgmental attitudes and regrets. That’s a lot stacked against the two main characters Tie and Laney. You will keep reading just hoping that there will be a better than Hallmark ending.
An ARC of the book was given to me by Tule Publishing which I voluntarily chose to read and reviewed. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
A wonderfully written story about college professor and a radio show host who meet at a book signing. Laney Travers had a thing for Tie Stevens just from hearing his voice on his daily talk show. When they meet in person, there is an instant attraction. What follows next could ruin their new relationship. Laney starts to worry what people will think of their interracial relationship. It takes a lot for Laney to overcome this, but eventually, her and Tie find their happily ever after.
This is the first book by this author that I have read and I will definitely be reading more. The book was very detailed, enlightening and entertaining.
Wayne takes on a serious subject matter in the cutest way. Laney and Tie are clueless when it comes to love and all the stereotypes that go with it. Degrees in Love is a smartly written romance about an often misjudged subject. Love is love, no matter the color, sex, class or age and that is a beautiful thing.
Deep chemistry draws a couple together but each of their personal struggles may keep them far apart.
