I enjoyed this beautiful Regency!!
Alessandro, the Earl of Rayne aka El Corazon Oscuro, is back in England from Spain to marry and Englishwoman to get an heir! He a is darkly handsome with a tortured soul.
Lady Catriona is the lady who is marrying him. She is back from Scotland after being sent there after being ruined!! Lady Catriona is beautiful and strong. She agrees to marry the strikingly handsome Earl.
A witty, romance, with an orphan, and a butler who learned to speak spanish, lol!!
A great storyline, great characters, and a story of healing through love!!
“A man cannot break your heart if it is never his to break.” Would those be words she would reflect on later when it came to Lord Rayne?
There was something dark and dangerous, breath arresting, and stomach-clenching about him. But the arrangement he promised would suit her fine. Marry, give him a male child and he would go back to Spain and leave her to live as she wanted. She was ruined so what did it matter?
A wounded soul who was only focused on doing his duty for a heir to carry on his title in England. Not wanting to get close to a woman because that part was dead inside. Or was it?
Alessandro, the scarred hero, needed to find love almost as much as his bethrothed, Catriona. Both were weary and it seemed their journey would be long to finding happiness.
But you never know what will happen in a story by this fabulous author as she writes! Trust me, you will not be able to put this one down until the end! Sigh….
I have loved every book in this series & this one had it all …………
A ruined sister of a duke, the lovely, kind & stubborn Lady Catriona Hamilton, has no choice but to accept the proposal of Lord Rayne. She understands that it will be a marriage of convenience & when she becomes pregnant he will return to Spain & she will raise the heir but be free to do as she pleases plus the marriage to an earl would allow her back in to society. Catriona is so kind, loving, giving & only wants to try to help Rayne out of his darkness & she does it with the patience of a Saint.
A tortured soul, Alessandro Diego Christopher Forsythe, ninth Earl of Rayne, is handsome beyond words & his heart has been dead since the death of his wife & infant son. Rayne has never fit in to society as his father married his mistress (Rayne’s Spanish mother) & Rayne did not take after his fair father but looked like a Spaniard. He has no room nor heart for any romance but knows he must marry & produce an heir to the title, otherwise his evil, wastrel cousin will inherit the title. Marrying Catriona will save courting time, the terms of the marriage can be agreed upon & marry quickly. Rayne is absolutely swoon worthy – he is sexy, funny, handsome, kind but were a couple of times that I wanted to strangle him!
The secondary characters including faithful friends, family & servants plus an orphaned child, Olly & pet mouse, Ashes found abandoned at Rayne’s estate add humor, love & kindness to the story. I highly recommend this book & the entire series – Scarlett Scott creates the best stories but her characters are unforgettable!
I was gifted the Advanced Reader Copy of this book & all opinions are my own & have been voluntarily given.
Alessandro Earl of Rayne has returned to London to be with his sister and he decides it’s time to take a wife, get an heir and return to Spain where he’s most at home. He’s been lost ever since his wife and son died. He doesn’t want his despicable cousin to inherit the Earldom thus he needs a wife and an heir. Lady Catriona Hamilton was sent into exile to Scotland, her future ruined and very bleak until her brother the Duke sent for her. Her brother has agreed to marry her to Alessandro, but Catriona has her own terms an heir in exchange for her freedom. Alessandro vows to never love again, he’ll marry and return to Spain as soon an heir is on the way, but what he doesn’t expect is to find his new bride quite so alluring, strong willed and determined to heal his broken heart. I loved this excellent story I loved and I voluntarily wrote a review.
I loved everything about this book, oh my goodness! It was and is fantastic. The plot, characters, angst, and the romance: it all had my reader’s heart rejoicing. I like that the character was from Spain; it had me wondering why more historical romance authors don’t center stories around Spain. Anyway, I want more of these two characters; can I get a Christmas novella? I highly recommend this book, but you will need to make sure that you find a quiet place so no one will disturb you because once you start, you will not want to be interrupted.
Another wonderfully gripping story
This is another wonderfully gripping story that has some view descriptive passages. The heroin is crafted with great strength and determination, to overcome her husband’s past heartbreak and win his affection.
Another lovely romance from Scarlett Scott!
This book was a page turner. I couldn’t wait to see how long it would take the main characters to realize they loved one another. The earl is very head-strong and stubborn. he thinks he has to follow with his original plan after he married (I won’t spoil it) but slowly he finds his new bride is everything he could want. Cat knows her reputation is ruined from a previous indiscretion and marries Alessandro as a way to get her freedom, but finds out she wants to have a life with him; not without him. The love steams are swoon worthy!! I could not put this book down!!
One of the most difficult challenges for an author is to redeem the ‘villain’. Alessandro is the villain of the first three books in this series, constructed as a dark and vicious character.
What can redeem him?
As Alessandro’s background is slowly revealed, it becomes clear.
As he carelessly takes a wife, Lady Catriona of the tarnished reputation, it is difficult to see how they can possibly have a great love affair, and yet that is achieved.
Occasionally I felt a bit cross with Catriona’s stubbornly held beliefs, but all works out as it should in the end with the heroine bringing light and life to the hero and making him believe there is still good in the world.
Wonderful Read
Look forward to reading more in this series.
Alessandro Forsythe, half Spanish Earl of Rayne, is a wounded soul. In the previous book, when he shoots the Duke of Montrose in a duel that was to be called off, he promises to marry the duke’s disgraced sister – a debt of honor – Lady Catriona Hamilton. Rushed off to Scotland for kissing a viscount – a wager he made – the duke sees this a way to restore his sister to society. Alessandro, half brother to Leonora (previous book) wants nothing more to return to fighting the French in his beloved Spain. But because of his duty to the earldom to produce an heir so his wastrel cousin does not inherit, he sees this as the perfect opportunity for a marriage of convenience. He will grant Lady Catriona her freedom and provide for her and the baby when she produces his heir. As soon as she is carrying the baby, Alessandro will return to Spain and his mission to restore his country. Not only is he a man scarred by war and death, but his heart is cut off from any emotions by the death of his first wife, Maria and his stillborn son. Cursing God for taking them and leaving him, he throws himself into the atrocities of war. But he did not reckon with the gentleness and kindness and tenderness along with stubbornness of Catriona. Attracted to the handsome dark stranger, she seeks to discover why he shuts himself off from emotions. Little by little as they begin to restore their country house to its former glory, Catriona shows Alessandro that the pasts does not define him. It is only when she leaves Alessandro realizes his heart is not dead, but alive because of her understanding and acceptance. Very beautiful romance of trust, faith and understanding that brings love to heal all wounds!
Oh my, I fell in love with Catriona and Alessandro almost as soon as I began to read. Rayne, who thinks he is totally undeserving and Catriona who, at first, avoids him like the plague, but soon realizes he is all she wants.
But then you have a goofy brother who can’t stay away from the Brandy, a best friend who is in love with said brother (but God forbid should anyone catch on), an urchin boy who really isn’t and who carries around his pet mouse, and a former manager who has all but stripped Lord Rayne’s boyhood home of everything. Sounds like my kind of family.
Catriona makes a marriage “deal” with Rayne at the beginning of the book and neither one has an inkling of what will happen between them. I can tell you what did work between them was the passion and steam. Not too much and not too little. This was just like Goldilocks – just right. And where the steam was? It worked perfectly. Lord Rayne, convinced that he will leave Catriona, begins by wanting only one thing – the heir. Boy, was this guy clueless. Sexy, dangerous, so in love, but clueless.
This story did not have a boring word in it. Every page I flipped through with my Kindle brought me another little tidbit to add to the story. The urchin was a great touch, the brother was definitely a “shaking my head” moment or two or three. The only place where I had to scratch my head was at the end…I thought more should have been said about the catching of the thief, but it didn’t spoil the story or ruin my enjoyment.
Needless to say, Scarlett Scott has a fan here! I’m happily looking forward to her next book on my TBR list.
Alessandro the Earl of Rayne has come back from Spain to see to his affairs. After a run in with Catronia Hamilton’s drunken brother he ends up shooting him in a duel defending himself. Now he has a betrothed he doesn’t know or want and all because of a drunken Duke. Catronia has been avoiding meeting the Earl of Rayne as she has no intention of marrying him. What Catronia doesn’t know is the Alessandro doesn’t like to be ignored and he corners her with a proposition that she can’t refuse, marry him give him a heir and she can live her life any way she likes as he will be returning to Spain. What Alessandro finds out is that Catronia is a strong willed woman and tests his anger at every turn. What Catronia learns is that Alessandro has a lot more pain and hurt inside that needs healing. I have to say I thoroughly enjoyed reading this story! I loved watching Catronia test Alessandro and the healing that came with it. There was so much to this story that it is a definite must read. I have read a couple of books by Scarlett Scott and have enjoyed them all!
Alessandro, the half Spanish Earl of Rayne, has a marriage of convenience with Lady Catriona Hamilton. Provide him with an heir, and he will go back to Spain to live. She will be provided for and her life will be her own. Sounds like a wonderful plan but plans never seem to go as scheduled. Lady Catriona might be a ruined lady in society’s eyes, but she has a second chance for a better life. She puts her determination and reason of life to good use trying to lure the Earl to her side. When they arrive at his estate, they find it in disrepair and crumbing; with a dirty young lad with a pet mouse living in the house. To make matters worse, the caretakers has stolen much of the household goods, including the portrait of the Earl’s mother. Just how is he to leave her there with the estate in such disrepair? Scarlett Scott has provided us with a delightful story, lovable characters and a grand plot.
Wow, Alessandro is so tortured but so stinking hot! And I was rooting for Catriona from the beginning to get her man! I have loved this series from the beginning and these books just keep getting better and better. Oh, Alessandro it is so hard to stop thinking about him and his Spanish words. This marriage of convenience becomes a hot, spicy, agonizing and yet oh so romantic story. I bought this book and it does not disappoint. I can’t wait for the Duke of Debauchery!
EARL OF EVERY SIN has a very interesting premise for the marriage of convenience, intimately tied to the behaviour of the extraordinarily memorable Monty – the Duke of Montrose – the heroine’s brother. Alessandro Forsythe, the Earl of Rayne, needs an heir, thus a wife; Lady Catriona Hamilton wants freedom and respectability, and marrying will ensure they both get what they want. However, neither had counted on the attraction they experience. Catriona is cool with that, but Alessandro! Oh dear me, what a stubborn, silly man!
I can’t, for the life of me, comprehend why someone refuses to love. Refuses to be loved I get, but stops himself from loving, I don’t. Anyway, Scarlett Scott does an impressive job at making Catriona a strong, appealing, and believable character. Catriona is extremely wily and clever in how she goes about trying to move the immovable object that is her husband. She has the patient of a saint but is never a doormat; she takes the bull by the horns. I didn’t hate Alessandro, but he was frustrating and infuriating. It was fascinating to see that Catriona understood him better than he understood himself and worked with that knowledge.
The secondary characters are brilliantly crafted: Hattie – Catriona’s best friend -, Johnstone, Alessandro’s butler; and the unforgettable Monty, whose story will be epic. The prose is exquisite – elegant and eloquent; the dialogues are smart and realistic, and the sprinkling of Spanish was used to great effect; a delicious sexual tension smoulders from the beginning to eventually light up an inferno. EARL OF EVERY SIN is very intense, and I’m amazed at how Scarlett Scott kept me engaged in the story, never making Alessandro so disagreeable that I didn’t care for him; that is not easy to do.
Alessandro Forsythe, the Earl of Rayne is going to marry the sister of a man he shot and wounded in a duel. That will serve two purposes, settle a debt of honour and hopefully provide him with the heir he needs. Once that is done he can return to Spain.
Lady Catriona Hamilton had been exiled to Scotland after getting caught kissing a man, but now her brother has decided she must marry.
This is an emotional story with lovely characters. Our hero is a man tormented by his past. Our soft-hearted heroine is willing to put her heart on the line to have the life she wants.
This is part of a series but easily read on it’s own. I think “Monty” might be the hero of the next book.
Very good fun, I loved it.
The Earl of Every Sin by Scarlett Scott is a perfect Regency romance. It has everything; a broken heart, a broken man, an orphan, a drunkard for a brother, a best friend, and a happily ever after. Lady Catriona Hamilton had been ruined. It didn’t take much to ruin a reputation back them. She had been kissed by the Duke of Shrewsbury and he had arranged for witnesses. All to win a bet. She had been banished to Scotland for a time by her brother, the duke. But she was home now and working feverishly to escape marriage that was being arranged for her, to Alessandro, Diego Christopher Forsythe, the Earl of Rayne. He was now on his third visit and she had managed to avoid him all three times. Until he happens to see her entering the library and follows her; this was a highly inappropriate move, but she had already been ruined. Her he explained his proposition to her: marry him and bear his son and heir and he would go back to Spain and leave her well-provided for and independent, answerable to no one. As she thought on it, she became more amenable to the idea and so, said “yes.” the next hurdle was when the wedding would take place. He wanted it immediately; she wanted to wait a few weeks. They decided on one week. Her mother and brother were thrilled.
This was a fabulous book. The pacing was right on. It had all the elements of a perfect romance story. The characters were relatable and, mostly, likable. It made the reader, by turns, uncomfortable, sad, happy, excited, and curious as to what would happen next. Catriona tried to manipulate Alessandro, he tried to avoid and run, Olly lied, and had gotten away with it for years, and Monty continued to drink and get into trouble. Alessandro had a broken heart and he tried to keep from letting it be repaired. He liked to wallow in his own misery, until that no longer worked. The butler, Johnstone, was fabulous. Learned Spanish just to get around his master; he was extremely amusing. This was an excellent romance and I highly recommend it.
I was given a free ARC of Earl of Every Sin by Dragonblade. All opinions and interpretations are solely my own.
