He only cares about revenge. Until he meets her.A widow after only one year of marriage, Lady Roysa chooses to run to her sister Idalia, who is wintering at Dromsley Castle, rather than retreat to the property granted to her. What she doesn’t realize is that Idalia and her new husband have a secret—they are part of a rebellion against the king, as is their gruff host at Dromsley Castle. The last … Castle.
The last thing Terric Kennaugh wishes for is a guest, let alone one who seems more concerned about fashion than the Order of the Broken Blade’s rebellion against King John.
He may be more of a Scot than an Englishman, but the English royals have a long history of doing his family wrong. He won’t miss his chance at revenge, especially not by the poorly timed arrival of a pampered English miss. Even so, Idalia is as good as a sister to him, and he cannot refuse shelter to a member of her family. To his surprise, he soon finds himself warming toward Roysa—whose beauty and stateliness is but a small part of what makes her a strong, noble woman.
But love is a distraction he cannot afford if he is to have his revenge.
Dromsley Castle is about to become the first battleground in what promises to be an all-out war between the king’s men and the Order.
Can love bloom in the midst of so much danger?

Fabulous characters and entertaining story!
This was a very exhilarating story. I enjoyed the tenacity of the two main characters as well as both having a short fuse. When they meet each other for the first time there is an instant dislike. This is a stressful time at Dromsley Castle and more stress is not needed for any of them. They both make an effort to get along.
As the broken blade continue their stand against King John, it is becoming very exciting. In this story we see the first of movements from the King. I can’t wait to see the final outcome!
This series keeps getting better and better! This was my favorite book so far! Could not put it down until the end!
An enemy to lovers book that captivated me with the main characters fiery chemistry. Terric, a Scottish clan chief and English earl, is determined to have revenge for his sister and isn’t in need of a distraction or wife.
Roysa, Idalia’s sister from The Blacksmith, is widowed and never really knew of love and passion. She fled her dead husband’s home in a rush in order to remain alive.
Terric and Roysa start out hating each other but are soon not only attracted to each other physically but also emotionally. The story also involves the ongoing treasonous conflict that the broken blade order is currently fighting for, the harsh taxes by the king are causing suffering for the people of England. So they need to either have the king change his policies or overthrow him. Which could mean many battles to be fought.
This third book in the series is phenomenal. I loved it! I am really looking forward to The Earl as that is my favorite trope ever!
If you’ve been following the stories in The Order of the Broken Blade, then you’re as excited as I was to find out that Cecelia Mecca has published “The Scot”. In it, we meet Terric and Roysa (Idalia’s older sister) and get a front-row seat to their, uh, courtship. Roysa has recently become widowed under dubious circumstances and taking a note of caution, heads to Dromsley Castle in the hopes that her sister is still there with her husband. She comes face to face with the master of the castle and they both instantly dislike each other. And with a start like that, you know the story will be good. Likes: As in Ms. Mecca’s other stories, she’s created a pair of likeable characters that you definitely want to see get their happily ever after; even if their early interactions are oil and water. Since this is part of a series, we are treated to other characters from earlier books, so it’s a bit like revisiting with old friends. Last, since I do love good period pieces, the bit of history when these stories take place (during the reign of King John) was a volatile time for England and Scotland, and Ms. Mecca does a great job portraying it.
