A hardened lawman fighting the betrayal of the woman he loved. The female agent who couldn’t rid him from her heart.Storm Summit, Book Fourteen, Redemption Mountain Historical Western Romance SeriesChandler Evans made the decision years ago to turn his back on a privileged life in New York to follow his older brother, Gabe, to the frontier. He didn’t regret the decision to become a Texas Ranger, … become a Texas Ranger, only the choices which went with it. His first mistake had been to accept a government agent as a partner. The second was to fall in love with a woman incapable of returning his emotions.
Agent Elizabeth Cartman became a widow much too young. Guilt plagued her, especially when feelings for a young Texas Ranger grew too strong to ignore. Retreat had been her lone option, running from her feelings easier than facing them. She never expected to see him again, but fate had other ideas.
Handing in his badge and riding north, Chan followed a precarious path to Splendor. Settling in as a U.S. Marshal, he obeyed a summons to Big Pine, finding himself face-to-face with the one woman he hoped had disappeared from his life forever.
Refusing the new assignment would achieve nothing, especially when a routine investigation turned to a game of life and death.
The hunters become the hunted, while the identity of the threat continues to elude them. As their mutual attraction grows, rekindling what they’d lost years before, they find themselves facing direct attacks to them and those they care about.
Can two fiercely independent people find a way to accept their love while fighting those intent on driving them apart by any means necessary?

This is another riveting story by Shirleen Davis. This book is from her “Redemption Mountain” Series. Even though this is the 14th book in the series, Storm Summit can very easily be read as a stand-alone.
Chandler Evans is moves to the frontier to be with his older brother, Gabe. He discovers that Gabe is a lawman in a frontier town. So, Chan becomes the U.S. Marshall in Splendor.
In the past, Chan had partnered with Government Agent Elizabeth Cartman. He fell in love with her. Unfortunately, Elizabeth is a widow, who felt disloyal to her late husband. Therefore, when Chan professes his love to her, she retreats leaving a short terse note.
Elizabeth realizes that she made a mistake by leaving as she did. She discovers that she is in love with Chan and has always loved him. She hopes that when she sees him again that she can “reignite the flame” and get back together with him.
Chan still loves Elizabeth. However he is still angry and bitter and refuses to forgive or even trust her.
Now, the two lawmen are forced to work together to stop a counterfeit ring. This ring seems to have an arm that is working out of Splendor.
Shirleen Davies skillfully uses her imagination to come up with an intricate plot that is difficult for the lawmen and the readers to figure out. There are many false interesting and frustrating, starts and obstacles to hinder their investigation.
The romance between Elizabeth and Chan is enthralling. They both want to be together, except they are afraid to reveal their feelings for fear of being rejected. Therefore, they are constantly misreading and misunderstanding what the other one says and does.
This is an exciting book with lots of action and intrigue, and a fascinating love story, that kept me glued to this book.
Chan had to deal with multiple outlaws trying to kill him and an ex-lover that he thought was the one who ran out on him two years ago. Beth was a tough federal agent trying to make it in a man’s world while falling for Chan and feeling guilty about replacing her deceased husband with him. Despite the hurt, there were plenty of sparks still between them. I didn’t like how he knew she was well trained in handling a gun and tracking criminals, but he kept trying to stop her from helping him. There were multiple shootings, explosions, a prison break, and two births. It was interesting reading about Chan and Beth’s investigations trying to determine if the counterfeit bills were being made in Splendor. It was great to catch up with the characters from the previous books in this series. I’m looking forward to the next one.
I always enjoy books by Shirleen Davies. This book has romance, danger, intrigue, strong characters and an excellent story line. We meet back up with friends in Splendor and meet new ones. I recommend this book.
Chan and Beth’s story is the next great instalment to the Redemption Mountain series. I found their story to be an entertaining read full of great characters and an interesting storyline. I would have liked a little bit more action/drama and felt some of the storyline wasn’t wrapped up to my liking, but I am probably being overly critical. I love this series and am looking forward to the next installment.
Ms Davies never fails to entertain. Starting with 2 lovers that split up but never forget. Forged bank notes starting with almost nothing to build a case. A jail break a murder stalking Chan. With all that she gets our couple back together. What a ride!
Elizabeth Cartman and Chandler Evans cross paths on an assignment however she is not able to face her feelings and runs. Fate has other ideas for this couple and they cross paths again and must resolve their feelings and future. Excellent story of love, decisions and characters reactions amidst the return to Redemption Mountain area.
I loved this romantic suspense! A strong female secret service agent working with an angsty U.S Marshall – talk about fireworks. Chan & Elizabeth have great chemistry and even better banter. A great mystery that’ll keep you guessing until the end.
I like Shirleen Davies books and have been reading her different series for several years. Storm Summit did not disappoint.
Chan Evans is a brother of Gabe Evans, the sheriff of Splendor. Their family is wealthy and comes from back east. Both Gabe and Chan left home to lead their own lives. Chan is now a US Marshal. He has been content to be on his own but has recently given thought to getting married and having a family. His heart was broken by a woman who he thought loved him as much as he loved her, until she disappeared and left him with nothing but a terse note.
Beth Cartman is a widow and a Treasury Agent. She worked with her husband until he was killed. She fell for Chan when they worked on a case together. She loved him but was scared by how quickly she fell for him. Fear made her leave his bed early one morning, leaving him nothing but a note. She has always regretted it.
A mission to find a team of counterfeiters brings the two together again. But will they be able to put their feelings aside to catch the counterfeiters and their crew? Will they be able to rekindle their relationship?
This story has a happily ever after. You don’t have read the other books in the series but it would help you to understand some of the back story, as the characters from them all walk through the story.
This is the fourteenth book in the series and I hope that there are many more. Chan and Beth are great characters. They were in love before but, Beth left and broke Chan’s heart. He never thought that he would see her again. They still love each other but, will they be able to move forward and let go of their pasts.
Great historical western romance that drew me in immediately and kept me totally immersed in all that was happening with strong characters and a wonderful old west story that had me turning the pages faster than ever. I loved the undeniable chemistry between US Marshall Chandler Evans and Federal Agent Elizabeth Cartman. Ms. Davies knocked my socks off with “Storm Summit” and I look forward to the next book from this gifted author. I received an advance reader copy of this book and am voluntarily leaving my review.
I truly enjoyed this book from the Redemption Mountain series. I love the character, Beth, with her feisty ways and fearless spirit. It’s so nice to read about a strong, intelligent woman in those times. It’s fun seeing how Chan finds ways to deal with her, even to the point of locking her in a jail cell to keep her safe. The story line keeps you guessing and makes this a real page turner. One added bonus in reading a series like this is getting to see how your favorite characters from other books are growing in their relationships. Hope to see more of Beth and Chan in future books.
A really great story by one my favorite authors. I loved Chan and Beth’s story and all the characters of Splendor. An intriguing western read with romance
A great second chance romance set in the old west. There is a lot of action and drama throughout the book with a plethora of characters, be prepared to re-read sections just to keep them straight. Even with all the characters you will not get lost in the plot. This is an excellent read as we’re all the others in the series
This was a good story but with a huge cast of characters. Both the good people and the villains kept me hopping. Even though I have read many of the books in this series, it was a while ago. And I felt a bit like I needed to keep a cheat sheet to keep the people straight . You know, like who went with who and how they were related. I do have to say though that I enjoyed the closeness of the families but also the whole community that surrounded Chan.
Just doing his job, Chan seems to have stirred up quite a bit of trouble and he has a multiple bunch of people who want him in the ground. Oh, their reasons vary but their desire is the same. Not only Chan’s death drives them but also greed. There is also a twisted idea of re-gaining past glory and it’s the plan of one of the main groups. I’m not going to say what that plan is because that would be a spoiler and I want the next reader to find out like I did. It was a surprise to say the least. It’s not the only surprise in the story.
I just have to mention an interesting but often underestimated man in the story. Enoch Weaver was often underestimated by people who didn’t know him. Being known as the town drunk, he was mainly invisible to strangers. But to people who did know him? He was a fount of information and some skills.
Wow, both Chan and Elizabeth have a TON of pride and they pay the price for it more than once. It actually gets in the way of them communicating in any really helpful way when it comes to their relationship. Both are really skilled in their jobs but it takes time for them to get it together between themselves. In a way I could kind of understand why Elizabeth ran from Chan the last time. She was still grieving the death of her husband and being in love again felt too soon. It also scared the daylights out of this otherwise fearless woman.
There is a H.E.A. for Chan and Elizabeth. One that they do their way.
“I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own.”
As a rule, I do not enjoy historic romances, but as with a previous Shirleen Davies book, this book is definitely the exception to the rule. You can’t help but like both Chan and Beth as well as their family and friends. A good story with a lot of unexpected twists. A very enjoyable read.
I received an advance reader copy of this book and am voluntarily leaving my honest review.
The town of Splendor, Montana Territory, 1870, and the population is growing every day. People are moving there, opening businesses and making a life. Others have growing families, babies born and relatives coming west.
This is an exciting series and as the characters expand, the criminals also move in to infect the peacefulness on the streets. U.S. Marshal Chan Evans works as a ranch-hand when he is not on a case or in court. Federal Agents are on the trail of counterfeiters and paths cross in neighboring Big Pine and travel to Splendor. This is a true adventure with guns blazing, killers running and lawmen chasing; plus, we have rekindled romance happening that will make you smile knowing there are happy events in Splendor. I loved every minute of this book. Thanks to the author for the ARC so that I could enjoy the early copy.
