“Welcome to my world. Welcome home.”
Emmanuel smiled, his arms around me. Birds sang, welcoming the rising sun.
He stepped up onto the bank and set me down, my feet sinking into soft, wet earth. “Where are we?” Dimitri asked, still standing in the swiftly moving stream, looking up to where the house was only moments ago. A mere flash ago. But now, it was just trees—ancient, snarled trees, … it was just trees—ancient, snarled trees, ferns at their feet. A forest untouched by development. Impossible.
Emmanuel did not answer, his hand trailing along my waist for a moment before he returned to the water, walking deeper into it as he pulled off his dirt-encrusted shirt.
Faint rays of the rising sun lit his exposed skin, playing over the defined muscles in his back and tangling in his curls that were stiff with dried mud. “We’re…in a different dimension, aren’t we?” I asked.
“What?” Megan’s voice was quiet.
Emmanuel twisted, his broad shoulders angling toward me. My eyes caught on the V shape of muscles below his tight abdominals. Dear Lord. That’s what they called him…the vampires all called him Lord.
Emmanuel gave me a devastating smile, his eyes promising a reward for my observational powers. Tingles of anticipation raced over my skin.
Bending down, Emmanuel dunked his shirt beneath the swiftly moving water. Megan joined me on the bank, her brilliant red hair catching the light. My heart rate picked up. “Dimitri and Megan can’t be in the sunlight.”
It filtered through the trees, imbuing this new world with a soft golden flush, but soon it would pierce through the foliage—rays of light that were deadly to my friends.
Emmanuel moved to a deeper part of the stream and dropped to his knees, then submerged himself into the frigid water. Dirt flowed off of him, a brown cloud carried away by the current.
Dimitri joined Megan and me at the water’s edge, his shoes sinking into the moist dirt. The T-shirt he wore was ripped and blood stained, yet he still moved like a dancer, all controlled elegance. His pale blue eyes avoided mine, looking into the distance instead. “There is a cave,” he said. “About a mile that way.” He nodded his chin toward the rising sun. “At least there was in our world. We should go now, Megan.”
I wanted to cup his cheek and turn him toward me. So much had changed in such a short period of time. We were lovers just hours ago. And now, Emmanuel had made him my…what? Protector, servant? Either way, he wasn’t looking at me.
“I’m not leaving Darling,” Megan said, crossing her arms over her stomach and setting her jaw, her mismatched eyes hard.
“She will be safe,” Dimitri assured her. “Emmanuel is here.”
Emmanuel sat up then, water dripping off him as he rose, his skin prickling from the cold water and fresh air. He shook his head and droplets sprayed, catching the morning light, looking like jewels.
He approached us and handed Dimitri his shirt, without looking at the vampire.
“Wring this out for me.” Would saying please kill the man…Lord…whatever he was.
Dimitri took the shirt and twisted it, his forearm muscles coming into relief as water splattered onto the muddy shore. “Thank you,” Emmanuel said, a playful smile twisting his lips. Did he read my mind? “Go to the cave,” he waved at Megan. “We will meet you there at sunset.” When she made no move to leave, Emmanuel focused his attention on her. She dropped her gaze. “Do not fear,” he said, his voice low. “Darling is in good hands,” he promised.
I believed him…

No one writes apocalyptic stories the way Emily does. This story has something for everyone- danger, mystery, hot romance, paranormal characters, fantasy and more, all set against a puzzling zombie apocalypse. Darling is a well-written, strong character with a wicked sense of humor willing to do whatever it takes to solve the question what makes these zombies rise in order to stop this world ending plague.
Book 2 of Emily Reed’s supernatural fantasy series enters multiple dimensions filled with vampires, warlocks a God and lots of other creatures that one can only imagine. I really enjoy this genre and Emily Reed’s imagination exceeds all my expectations. I take great pleasure in being part of her advance reader team and was really happy that there was a sneak peak of the third book in this series because I was really left hanging on by my fingernails. I look forward to more Darling, Dimitri, Megan and hopefully Emanuel in her next interdimensional leap. Can she fix the world? Can she rid all the dimensions of the zombies and restore humanity? Hopefully we will find out in the next book of this series coming in January.
I liked the second book even more than the first one, and this was quite a shift in genre for me to begin with. Previously I was not really a fan of vampire, zombie, warlock stories but this changed now. There’s so much action and plot twists, quite a roller coaster, what an imagination. The cliff-hanger of an end seems to promise even more thrilling continuation which I am definitely looking forward to.
What a ride this one was. I was reading so fast to see what was coming next I almost forgot to breathe. I was a little reluctant to read this because it’s not really my kind of book but I have to be honest with you, I’m completely hooked on this series and can’t wait until the next book comes out. I was given this book to read to give an unbiased review.
Another amazing page turner. This book leaves the reader coming back for more! I found this story to be fascinating and complex. The relationships between Darling and Emmanuel are fascinating and what a twist when Darling begins to realize her potential and how to gain and use her power. I can’t wait to see what comes next!
Loved the way this book progressed, with Darling discovering new skills, and learning so much about the world she lived in, and also about other worlds. I thought it was great that she would not allow Emmanuel to just decide everything for her, even though that’s what he wanted to do. She is strong in her own right, and wants to use her power and abilities to stop the zombies.
This is a great series, with interesting characters, and a really captivating take on the paranormal world. I look forward to book 3! I would love to know what happens next.
This story has escalates into a whole lot more then just your regular Zombie/Vampire apocalypse. I am glad she has the help of Emmanuel but I don’t like him at all. He gives me creepy vibes. Dimitri has became my favorite. I am glad Darling has him and Megan with her. Darling really learns a bunch about herself in this book. It is interesting how her power grows throughout the book. I didn’t know if she was ever going to get a handle on so much in such a short time. I honestly had a few proud moments when Darling started figuring out what she needs to do and how she is going to save the world. Very interesting spin to this story. I am ready for the next story and see who stays around and who gets left behind. I also can’t wait to add a few new people to the story and see how it all plays out.
This book is very good. It picks up after book one without missing a beat. Darling is still trying to figure out where she belongs in this new world, and being thrown into a different dimension is not helping. It’s fast paced and entertaining.
Join Darling’s journey as she uncovers more about her family history and the powers she possesses. She really comes into her own in this book; standing up for herself and fighting for those she loves. As she is discovering what abilities she has, she is also realizing it’s up to her to save her world. Now she just needs to figure out how she can do that. I’ll be anxiously awaiting the next book for the continuation.
I voluntarily reviewed an Advanced Reader copy of this book.
In this second book of a trio by Emily Reed, the pace picks up. A fantastic story in a genre I never thought I’d like! I can’t wait for book three to come out, just to see what Darling, Dimitri, and Megan do.
I received an ARC for my honest review. I’m just glad it’s a good one. One click, you won’t be sorry.
This book was everything I was hoping for in book 2 of this series! We journey with Darling as she tries to figure out who she is, or better yet what she is, and where she comes from. We get to see her power grow as well as her confidence in that power. Let’s just say once she fully embraces her power, she will be a force to be reckoned with! I’m sort of in love with the fact that her power stems from contact. The more intimate the contact, the more she power she gains and I am here for it! Can we just talk about Emmanuel for a minute? Because by the gods, hott double damn!! Their chemistry is so off the charts it’s probably a good thing they’re in a different dimension! Also, I’m totally in love with Dimitri so just to remind y’all, I call dibs on that delicious vampire. I’m looking forward to the next book to see how Darling Price is going to save the freaking universe!
This is the second book in the series and we start to find out what exactly Darling is. We get to experience multi dimensions and creatures that are taking over. Darling and her vampires are discovering their combined power and seeing exactly what she can do. It was exciting, quick paced and I loved it.
I loved this book as much as I loved the first one in the series. Emily has written a great apocalyptic/vampire/zombie infested series that grabs your attention from the start! Love that there are some scorching romantic interludes included too. The main character, Darling, is a strong character is very worried about why the zombies have taken over. Love reading about all her escapades and how she has that feeling within herself that tells her she has to do something to try and stop what is happening, no matter how “great” her life seems right now, she knows mankind needs answers and she may just be the one to save it. Love, love, love this series and look forward to more!
Book two in this series rips into action from the beginning and I couldn’t stop reading! Read book one first to get the setup. It’s a little slower, but neccesarily so. This is an extremely well written, action packed urban fantasy with some romantic steam! If you don’t like zombie stories, I urge you to try it anyway. I don’t typically seek them out and was given an advance reader copy in exchange for an honest review. There is so much more to this series than JUST zombies and it is so well written that you won’t be able to put it down!
After escaping a world she barely recognized as it was overtaken by zombies created by a plague, vampires and other fantastical beings, Darling is lost for a bit on Emmanuel’s world. Suffused with new feelings of power, she also is feeling a responsibility to help find a cure – which she discovers, the cure is within her. Despite the allure and sensuality Emmanuel holds for Darling, she cannot fight the tug to leave his world and explore both her powers and search for the information she needs to help humanity survive.
