Sick child in the house so Ducky has read so much this week. I love Christmas thankfully lots of good books to catch up on. Author Mimi wells gave me a way to escape this week and I was so thankful for it. I had so much fun reading Ivy and Rand’s story. It was like watching a Hallmark movie inside my head as I read this book. Wonderful word descriptions and lots to thinks about in real life about celebrities.
Mimi Wells starts her Dogwood Mountain series with The Christmas Scoop. The Christmas Scoop is a great intro to this new series set in Dogwood Mountain, North Carolina. Ivy is headed home for the holidays. After overhearing a conversation, Ivy thinks she may just be able to get the story to secure her job at Scoop.
I liked how Ivy’s relationship with Rand develops from more than she could have expected. I can’t wait to see what else is in store in Dogwood Mountain.
What I liked:
The writing style
The characters
Part of a series: Dogwood Mountain
Standalone
HEA
I look forward to reading the next book in this series.
I voluntarily read and reviewed an ARC from Tule Publishing.
This actually a double barrelled romance story in that e actually have two couples and the scoop is actually a journalistic Scoop and hopefully a promotion
Ivy Macpherson is heading back to Dogwood Mountain, North Carolina, to enjoy the festivities and her birthday although enjoy may not be the best word as she is a bit of a grinch about Christmas On route she spies an A list star and his new squeeze if she can get the scoop ion who it is she just knows she will get that promotion she wants (she almost becomes a stalker) When she arrives in town and while trying to track down her story she continually runs into Rand Cooper this man may be has handsome as sin but he was her high school nemesis. He has had a crush on her since school can he finally convince her they are meant to be and will they end up together like all her friends and family want You will have to read to see
I received this arc in exchange for an honest review. I enjoyed this story set in North Carolina. The story features Ivy MacPherson who has returned to her home town from NYC to celebrate her birthday, her mom’s birthday and Christmas. Her family, much to her horror is know for their fruitcakes, called Phruitcakes. She arrives when they are working on sending them out and getting ready to host the annual Phruitcake festival. We learn she has 2 sisters who still live in Dogwood Mountain.
While at the airport she thinks she sees a big celebrity, Julian Wolf and deduces he is going to her town to meet a local secret girlfriend from his cellphone conversation. Before she left NYC, she learned that her company, Scoop, would be going through reorganization and job reduction in the new year. So she was motivated to get a big story to impress her boss and be promoted or at least have job security.
After arriving in Dogwood Mountain, she heads for the inn to look for Julian to try and get the scoop for work. She runs into her nemesis from high school, Rand Cooper, whose family runs the inn. She enlists his help in locating Julian. Rand had set up the visit for Julian and his old housemate Katy, promising them anonymity in the inn. He realizes that Ivy is relentless in her pursuit so he moves the couple to his home to hide them. Rand has always wanted to get together with Ivy but she didn’t know that and saw him as her biggest competition in school. Rand offered to help Ivy search for Julian, even though he is also keeping them hidden for privacy.
Ivy starts realizing she missed her hometown and her family while living far away. She also starts developing feelings for Rand but doesn’t want to admit it. She admits to herself that Rand is well liked and a good guy, despite what she’s told herself all these years. Rand starts feeling trapped in his lies as he has to continue to hide Julian in spite of what will happen with Ivy when she figures it out.
It is a great story. I like the description of the town and the people and their relationships as described by the author. I have give it 5 stars. I will look for more books by Mimi Wells.
The scoop in The Christmas Scoop by Mimi Wells is a big break in a story not a scoop in a Christmas ice cream cone. The career driven Ivy Macpherson is right at the time of year that she must return home to celebrate Christmas and her birthday Being an ambitious career motivated individual her small hometown is not exactly where she wants to be but when seeing the chance for a story her outlook changes.
Returning home brings her in contact with a high school acquaintance Rand Cooper. I liked Rand from the first but Ivy had to grow on me. I just wasn’t sure that a person’s privacy should be sacrificed for a celebrity story. It seemed a bit like stalking to me which gives you my opinion of the paparazzi. Still in the end it all works out as they do in romance stories, except in this case there are two happy couples instead of the usual one.
An ARC of the book was given to me by Tule Publishing which I voluntarily chose to read and reviewed. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
Mimi Wells is a new author to me,one I will be reading more of in the near future, this book is definitely a re-read for me.I love second chance romances and this one definitely has that with Ivy McPherson and Rand Cooper.Who knew the the small town you grew up in you would find “The one” is hiding in plain sight. This book definitely should be turned into a Hallmark or Netflix Christmas movie.
A sweet romantic second chance romance with a little Christmas magic. Eden and her son are staying at a resort for the holidays. She was not expecting a marriage proposal from her boss’s son nor was she expecting to see someone she loved years prior working at the resort. Cole never stopped loving or forgot Eden. He spend the last years trying to prove her wrong on her thoughts of him. He goes out of his way to get her to relax and enjoy the true magic of Christmas with her son and him. Plus with an angel on your side he’s sure not to fail. I voluntarily read and reviewed an ARC from Tule Publishing.
The Christmas Scoop by Mimi Wells
Helping her would be the way to her heart…and her express ticket out of town
Ivy Macpherson grew up in a family famous for the most embarrassing Christmas tradition of all—fruitcake—so she’s become a bit of a Grinch. Her body may be headed to Dogwood Mountain, North Carolina, to celebrate the holidays with family, but her mind is on moving up the ladder at the online lifestyle brand Scoop.
When Ivy’s chance encounter with an A-list actor reveals he’s headed to her hometown, she knows that scoop is the key to her big break. Earning a promotion should be a piece of cake—but chasing her story puts her face-to-face with the sinfully handsome Rand Cooper, her main high school competition and perennial thorn in her side.
Rand always had a thing for Ivy, but she’s a tough nut to crack. Family and friends hope their flirtation will grow into something more. But will Ivy’s focus on the job of her dreams cost her the man who could help her build a real future?
This is Ivy Macpherson and Rand Cooper’s story.
Ivy Macpherson couldn’t remember who’d said it first, but as she pushed her way through the throngs crowding Hartsfield-Jackson International Airport, she definitely agreed. You can’t go to hell without changing planes in Atlanta first.
The normally busy airport was packed even tighter with holiday travelers, which meant it was amateur hour as far as she could see. Haggard mothers running over people’s feet with their expensive strollers. Harried family men loaded down like mules with carry-on bags and the occasional Disney princess backpack. Toddlers breaking for free space like running backs after the snap. Bored, oblivious teens glued to their cell phones blocking the passageways.
She caught the weary eye of a TSA agent and gave the woman a sympathetic smile. That job wasn’t easy on the best of days, but during the week before Christmas, Ivy bet it could be downright ghastly. The noise alone would be enough to drive anyone mad.
“I really appreciate this, man,” Julian said, leaning back on the worn leather seat of Rand’s old Subaru and flashing Rand a thousand-watt smile.
There was a short silence as Julian took a long sip of water. “You have no idea how thrilled Katy is about this trip. We’ve had barely any time together lately.”
When Katy Daniels, Rand’s college housemate, had called asking for a favor, a private hideaway for holidays, he’d said yes without hesitation. But when Katy admitted sheepishly that the new squeeze she was bringing with her was Julian Wolf, he’d laughed. Several minutes of ribbing followed, after which he listened to her explain how the Julian everyone knew from the movies and the guy she’d run into at a farmer’s market were two very different people. That Julian, she concluded, was someone worth holding onto, so she had.
The Christmas Scoop by Mimi Wells is 5 star book.

The Christmas Scoop
Ivy works for a magazine called the Scoop. She finds out that they are going to restructure the company and some people will be losing their jobs but so far they don’t know who. She is headed home for Christmas and while she is in the airport she sees Julian Wolf being escorted through the airport. While she is watching him she realizes that things appear to be a little off, she noticed his smile was off and he carried his bag on his left shoulder and not the right. Things most people wouldn’t pick up on.
While she is trying to figure out why a decoy is in Atlanta posing to be Julian she hears a phone go off near her. She hears a voice and a laugh and realizes when she sees a man in a faded green army jacket. Then she realizes that this is the real Julian Wolf.
Now while she is home on vacation she is trying to figure out who is mystery woman he has been seeing and why he is at Dog Mountain.
A really good book
Two people on a crash course to solve their dilemmas, each with the undercurrents of love and possibilities. If only the reckoning can be resolved, they will find what they truly need.
