This book is a really enjoyable read. It has a sweetness and light running through it, much like it’s leading lady. There are some really engaging characters and I love the fact they’re not one dimensional or predictable caricatures. I like the way they work through and around their demons, even when it isn’t easy. It’s very true to life seeing characters you have grown to care for succeeding in that. I also like how they give strength to each other and united they can take on the world. I love the supporting cast too, they add colour, kindness and humour throughout the book. There are some interesting subplots and events running through the story and there are some unexpected twists as well. This is the first book I’ve read by this author but I will look out for more by her.
OMGosh. Thank you for refreshing leads and setting Ms. Ohlin. We romance fans love our tropes but when they all live in the same town and do the same thing we yawn. But not here! The exterior goals were spot on the ARCs were there and the writing was top!
This is a little insta-lovey (there’s nothing wrong with that some of us dream for it, viva Romance!) and it took me a sec to fall for Jackson—he doesn’t put his best foot forward in the first chapter—it’s worth reading on and discovering his POV. In all, I recommend. The writing is solid, the plot has bone and the emotion will pull you
Loved the book it was great, the story was well written and the characters are interesting. This story of Ellie and Jackson. Ellie is a placid veterinarian renting a unit. Jackson is an attorney and Ellies landlord. Jackson wants to turn the units into high-end condos which caused an argument. Can the work out the differences.

Salvaging Love was my first Sara Ohlin book and it won’t be my last. I love a romance featuring damaged characters who find themselves as they find their HEA, and that’s exactly what the author has given us. There’s some suspense, a nasty villain, some heartbreaking moments, and true love to make it all better. The book also deals with anxiety and abuse, and there is one violent scene, but I was glad to see everything resolve. And because the heroine is a vet, there are several lovely furbabies in there as well. Lots of hot moments and lots of romance.
Peeps this book! I know, I lied. I thought I was finished with reviewing this year but then I remembered that I had this little gem of a book to read. I’ll be honest though and tell you that I didn’t start reading it until Tuesday night. Read about 30 pages and went to bed. Wednesday night rolled around and I literally couldn’t put it down. I even sent a tweet to Sara that I had 50 pages left to read and I was enchanted. But if you know me at all, I couldn’t let those last pages haunt me all night long. I told my husband when he came to bed to be quiet because I was finishing a book. And what a finish it was. The complete twist, in the end, is a welcome and heartwarming surprise. Sad, too. To search and search for someone and for them to be under your nose the whole time. Brilliant plotting from Sara.
So on with the review. This book doesn’t stop. The pacing is fast and furious but it needs to be. While the main focus is the romance between Ellie and Jackson, there is so much more going on. The layers of depth that Ms. Ohlin develops within the story are heart wrenching, prevalent, sad and trust me, one or two of them will affect you in ways that you never thought possible. Ellie’s, in particular, spoke to me. I had someone that never thought I was “good enough” and was always telling me that I was too this or that. It wears on you but I didn’t do what she did. But I digress…Ellie and Jackson are two wounded souls that need each other not just a romantic couple but as champions in their court when needed. Cheerleaders of sorts. I’m not going to tell you that its all rainbows and unicorns for them. Communication is not want of their better things in the relationship and it hurts them a couple of times. A bit maddening at times but this is when they both shine on their own.
The secondary characters are brilliant and help them in their own way. Ruby, Matt and of course the dogs are for them always. The pub owner is a dream. He deserves his own book but that’s just me. Even Jackson’s awful client is used well in the story. Hence the HUGE twist at the end. Wow, just wow. But what I took away from the book is that everyone deserves to be loved. It might not be from blood but there are people that search for love and don’t realize that it is right there in front of them. Ellie and Jackson came from awful, horrific childhoods and felt so unloved and unloveable. When they meet you just know. You know. The smexy times are perfect. I can’t say anymore because they are so important for Ellie’s side of the story.
Before this week, I had never heard of Sara Ohlin. Make no mistake, I know who she is now and I can’t wait to see what she writes next. Bring on Declan. Just saying…
Independent reviewer for Archaeolibrarian, I was gifted my copy of this book.
Faced with the destruction of her beloved neighbourhood, Ellie is given a month to persuade lawyer and new block owner Jackson to renovate, rather than rebuild.
This appears to be only the second book Ms Ohlin has written. And I really rather enjoyed it!
It’s light a fluffy in places, and dark and deadly in others. It’s funny and sexy in places, its heavy and emotional in others. It spans a huge range of emotions and all are extremely well portrayed and delivered.
Ellie is a vet (as in animal doctor, not ex service person) and Jackson is lawyer to the criminal underworld in town. Jackson is jaded and buys the block as a new career. Ellie loves her community and fights Jackson all the way. But Jackson is, quite literally, smitten as a kitten with Ellie and it really doesn’t take much for Jackson to see what Ellie does.
Jackson’s job clashes with his personal life in a way I so did NOT see coming at me and I loved that! I absolutely did NOT have a clue that was coming at me, and I must have shouted out, cos my daughter stuck her head round the door and asked if I was ok! It was a blinder of a plot twist! Very well played, there, Ms Ohlin, very well played!
It does carry some darker story lines: parental/spousal abuse, as well as animal abuse. Some of this is described in great detail. Readers may have triggers.
Both Ellie and Jackson have a say, and I loved that they did. Ya’ll know I need to hear from everyone!
This is billed as book one in the Rescue Me series, and I cannot wait to see who comes next, and what Ms Ohlin pulls out of her hat for them!
4 very VERY good stars

Salvaging Love is the first book in Sara Ohlin’s Rescue Me series which focuses on the relationship between Ellie Blevins, soon to be evicted veterinarian with an animal clinic and apartment in a charming but run-down neighborhood, and Jackson Kincaid, defense attorney who wants to turn the local buildings (including Ellie’s) into condos. This emotional read is extremely well written with vivid descriptions, a great plot, realistic but complex characters carrying around their life baggage, slow building romance, and steamy chemistry. I strongly recommend this entertaining but emotional read!

Ellie Blevins has her clinic and her animals, living in a tight knit community is just what she needs in her life. When Jackson Kincaid shows up claiming she is to be evicted her clinic and apartment are about to be demolished, Ellie puts up a fight. Jackson is used to getting his way and when he Ellie gets in his face he strikes a deal with her and gives her a chance to change his mind.
There is a lot more to this story that deals with fractured pasts for both of them, a client of Jackson who he wants nothing to do with. Had a few angsty moments but overall a good story. I liked Ellie she is a interesting character. Great story, looking forward to reading more in this series.
4 1/2 stars
