Adrian Durand is one of the most powerful psychics in the world. Respected. Desired. Dangerous. But it isn’t until his father’s mysterious death thrusts him into leadership of the Durands and their international business empire that he becomes the target of a plot to seize the source of his family’s psychic abilities. Tate Fulbright is living a carefully crafted lie as a perfectly ordinary woman. … woman. One without powers of any kind. Until a run-in with an enigmatic stranger forms a scorching psychic bond, cracking her facade of normality wide open. Their undeniable chemistry draws Tate into Adrien’s glamorous, high-risk world of covert organizations, deadly secrets, and dark majik. But Adrian’s prized focus is slipping. And the enemy is closing in with deadly intent. If he can’t maintain control over his bond with Tate and to the power he’s protecting, he could lose both the woman he loves and the city he was born to defend. And time is quickly running out.

This is the 1st book I’ve read written by Lark Brennan; she has done a great job at writing a good book; I can’t wait to read more of her books.
The story line caught my attention at the very beginning and kept me interested throughout the entire book.
I received a free copy of this book via booksprout and I’m voluntarily leaving a review.
In Mind Shadows, the second of the Durand series, we meet the head of the family, wealthy playboy Adrian, a man both physically and emotionally damaged. His psychic abilities and heavy family responsibilities have left him lonely, angry, and stuck, albeit in luxurious lifestyle, at the source of the family seat in Paris. The heroine, Tate, is a small-town Indiana girl enjoying a once-in-a-lifetime visit to the romantic city. She grew up hiding her empathic and animal telepathic powers to “fit in.” She’s middle-class American, honest, and somewhat naïve, and knows Adrian is way out of her league. She’s also smart, courageous, and determined to enjoy whatever time she might have with the sexy, sometimes charming, and sometimes dark Adrian.
Tate is drawn deep into Adrian’s world when she becomes a pawn in the villain’s attack against the Durand’s. Her life is totally ransacked. This story is exciting, fast-paced, and well-plotted. There’s a deep, meaningful, and fun romance, and I love both the metaphysical and the animal connections.
This is a great read. Lark Brennan’s first Durand story was set in the Caribbean, and this one is set in and around Paris. I was immersed in the essence of these places. I look forward to spending time with more of the Durand family in future stories.
Mind Shadows is a reissue (new title, new cover) of Irresistibly Yours, the second installment in Lark Brennan’s fascinating Durand Chronicles (after Shadows in the Deep), romantic suspense with more than a touch of the paranormal.
When Tate Fulbright wanders into a shop in Paris, looking for an entomological collection she’d heard about from her scientist mother, she finds instead an amazing collection of taxidermied animals, as well as Adrien Durand, who seems just as amazing to a girl from Indiana, in the City of Light for a pharmaceutical convention. But despite her inexperience with the high society and wealth that Durand represents, Tate isn’t just another tourist from Indianapolis. She communicates with animals at a deep level, hears voices in her head, feels the emotions of the crowds around her, and has no idea where these abilities—or disabilities—come from.
Adrien Durand, head of the far-flung Durand clan and its many commercial and charitable interests, doesn’t know where Tate’s talents come from, either, and that worries him. Is she a wild talent, or someone sent to spy on the Durands by one of the other psychic clans, some shaky allies, some outright enemies. For the Durands and their counterparts fight a long and continuing battle to either protect or enslave the ordinaires of the world.
Adrien finds himself increasingly attracted to Tate, but his responsibilities—and his family—throw barriers between them. Tate has her doubts, too, tossed as she is into a world she never suspected and doesn’t understand. But Adrien’s world may hold the answers to the mysteries in her head, and give her a new purpose in life—if they can both survive.
The world of the Durands, with its wide array of psychic powers, Protectors and Dissemblers, and family connections—and secrets—going back generations, expands with each installment. If you missed this one, grab it now, and watch for more to come.
