When Maximillian Sanders moved to Greyford, he had three goals: mend the broken relationship with his sister, keep her safe, and get into a division one college, playing hockey. There he meets the girl who breaks his heart and turns his world upside down, and it’s her best friend who helps pick up the pieces.Brook Taylor learned the hard way that in order to survive this ugly world, she needed to … she needed to live by her own rules. Then she meets Max and for the first time, she’s tempted to break them. He’s off limits, and she has a plan that doesn’t include a hot hockey player.
He says he wants her, but she can see the truth in his eyes. She should have just followed her rules and guarded her heart.
Those three little rules were supposed to save her, until she broke them all.

Rules is the third and final installment in the Greyford High series. I absolutely love Anna’s writing style. Her stories are very well developed, and her descriptions and the little details, really bring the story to life. The way that Anna paints a picture with her words made me feel like I was actually immersed in this world. I love how she peels back the layers on her characters, giving us readers the chance to truly get to know them. I waited patiently, for some time, to get my hands on Max and Brook’s story, and it was absolutely worth the wait. It was incredibly moving, heartbreaking and beautiful all wrapped up into one AMAZING story! Now I won’t go into the plot and spoil anything for anyone. You will just have to read this for yourself. But I can promise you, this book, and the whole series is absolutely PHENOMENAL! I’m sad that this series has come to an end, but it took me on an emotionally rewarding journey that I’m not soon to forget. 5 Soul-Stirring Stars!!!
Healing. This book is about healing. And not just healing from a broken toe, a broken heart, or a broken mind. It’s about healing a life that has been destroyed in more ways than imaginable. A soul that has been twisted so far beyond repair. It’s about climbing out from deeper depths than Hell.
And not doing it alone. Even though you’ve done everything in your life to push people away . . . to hold them at arms-length (in truth, even farther). To not let people in because all you want to do is escape and leave nothing behind that means anything. No friends. No love. Who needs that when you are not capable of having it? Brook tried to do that. But she failed.
We need others. And Brook found those others to help her recover.
We meet Brook Taylor in Anna B. Doe’s book entitled Lines featuring Amelia, Brook’s best friend. Just enough information was given to make me so curious about this girl. I wanted her story the minute I finished Lines. She was an enigma and I wanted to solve her mystery. And Doe unwound that mystery so beautifully, so marvelously, so emotionally in Rules.
This book had so many twists and subplots that are woven together into a beautiful story. It will leave a mark on you. There are so many amazing lines. Half my Kindle is highlighted from all the passages that completely moved me, ripped me apart, and put me back together.
“We’re all broken and jaded in own own way.” Ain’t that the damn truth.
I went on this journey with Brook and Max and will forever be touched by it. Love conquers all.
The Family She Made
I can’t believe the series is over. What an ending! I waited patiently for Max and Brook’s story and I loved where the author took us. INCREDIBLY moving, with both heartbreaking and relevant issues. The author never shys away from difficult subject matter which keeps me coming back for more.
Brook has always been a mystery, even to her best friend. No father. A mother who neglected and abused her. Choosing alcohol and drugs over her own child. The only one Brook has ever depended on is herself. She lets no one in, so that no one else can hurt her. But when she met Lia she broke that rule. They’ve been best friends ever since.
Max was good guy who looked like the bad boy. He took care of his sister and befriended Lia. He even gave up the girl he had feelings for so that she could get her HEA. He’s totally lovable and a great hockey player to boot. And him and Brook were like fire and ice.
This is their story. A story of discovery and healing. A young woman who’s learning to share her burdens and open her heart. A man who is learning to realize that it is not his job to save the people he loves. He just needs to love them and stand beside them as they fight their own battles.
You get to re-visit your favorite characters and fall more in love with them. They each have had their own struggles. The story will bring them all full circle. Everything turns out is exactly as it should. This is recommended reading for anyone who enjoys emotional NA/YA reads. I loved this series.
What an EPIC ending to a beautiful series! Rules is by far my favorite.I have wanted Max & Brooke’s story since I read Lines. I knew their love story was going to be the greatest love story. Every single page will leave you wanting more! I honestly could not put this book down, from needing to know Brook’s past and wanting to know what was going to happen next I was seriously hooked. A definite MUST READ! I would love a novella about all 3 couples and how their futures have paned out.
Rules was the most anticipated book of the entire series for me. I have been dying for Brook and Max’s story and this did not disappoint! This story was heartbreaking, emotional and truly beautiful. I devoured this book. I was completely drawn into Brook and Max’s life from the very beginning to the very end!
Brook is a survivor and a fighter. She has also been a mystery to everyone in her life and even throughout the series. There was so much more to her story than I ever could have expected. It was so emotional and I felt for her, but I also couldn’t help but smile for how strong she really is for overcoming everything. Max is the opposite of Brook, however, he isn’t without his own struggles in life. I loved the two of them together. They were an unlikely couple who were completely perfect for each other. They both found ways to help each other in their struggles.
There was some overlap between the previous books in the series in this one, but you got a different point of view of the scene. I didn’t feel like that took away from the story or felt repetitive in any way. It helped to get the full timeline of Brook and Max’s relationship.
I am sad that this series is over but I am so happy with how this series ended. Rules is a heartbreakingly emotional story that will rip your heart to shreds but then slowly mend it back together. This book and this series are a MUST READ!
Rules Arc Review
Rules is the last book to the Greyford High series.
Rules is Max and Brooks story.
This book was my favorite. Lines was great. Habits was excellent. But Rules was off the charts phenomenal.
Max and Brooks story is an emotional one with lots of angst and some really complicated situations for the teens who are getting ready to graduate from Greyford High. This story is one you think you know what’s going to happen and then your met with all kinds of surprises and things you definitely didn’t see happening. Once I got the arc copy I couldn’t wait to read it but the closer I got to the end I was met with a bittersweet goodbye knowing that this is the last one. I highly recommend this series especially if you love YA/NA sports romance stories.
Thank you Anna B Doe for writing this amazing series full of wonderful characters and their journey through the hardships, friendships, and finding love.
I must admit throughout this whole series I have had my doubts and even have came to despise Brook, so with this book I was hoping we could understand her better or at least try to and she could convert me as a fan. Well the author did not disappoint, I ended up loving this story and even loving Brook. Brook endures so much pain, torture, and tragedy in her short life that it isn’t hard to feel sorry for her or pity her. She is hardened by the rough life she has had to endure, she comes from an awful home life a drunken drug addicted mother who abuses her so she has a set of rules she lives by that are intended to keep her focused on her main goal which is to get out of town and away from her current life. She is cold and pretends to be heartless but deep down she is just a girl screaming for help but too stubborn to ask or receive it. I thought I hated her and in a way I really did but getting to know her in more depth has me seeing there was more to her, I still don’t like her in the previous books but in this one I could. Max is a kind, loving soul who is set on protecting those he cares for. He thinks he was in love with Lia, Brook’s best friend, yet he wasn’t he just liked the idea of her. He has his own issues with school, college applications, hockey, a twin that won’t let be close to her, and family that pretty much ignores him and his sister. Max tries so hard to become more to Brook, to be there for her, be a friend, yet she shuts him out every time because she doesn’t want to be second choice. Finally, these two connect and Max is always there for her and she thinks the best action to every bad thing that happens to run and eventually she does run without looking back. This book had a lot more twists, drama, action, and steamy moments than the last two and I loved every bit of it even if I skeptical because of Brook I knew I would still read it because of Max. I am just glad I got a better understanding of Brook and was able to enjoy and love this. These two truly stole my heart and made me think about how we treat others, think before you speak, and don’t judge by attitude because there usually is more to what lies underneath. The author brought these two together and letting both characters grow, Brook learning to accept help and trust others and Max learning he can’t always be the hero but he is a kind soul that just loves deeply.
I have been sitting on this book for days now trying to articulate how to write the review.
Three little rules made to guide her
Three little rules made to free her
Three little rules made that broke her
Brook was the enigma from book one. The sassy girl with a porcupine personality but a marshmallow heart for her closest friend. The one girl that gave off the vibe of a dark and shroudly past that you know will break your heart.
Max was Max was Max. The champion, the charmer, the guy who has to put a smile on his face as he sees his girl with someone else.
This story was a tragedy waiting to happen. A pair of star-crossed lovers, a Romeo to his Juliet, but still it is a story that you HAD to read because you want to know if they have a connection, a future.
I have to credit Anna on her brilliance in bringing this story to life. I mean, the details, the emotions suck you into their story and you can see it play out right in front of your eyes. Anna’s writing style ebbs and flows and takes you along a journey of angst, heartbreak, love, laughter and a bit of mystery that keeps you at the edge of your seat.
I will say Brook and Max is by far my favourite of the couples of Greyford High and I hope everyone gives their story a chance and enjoys it as much as I did.
I have been waiting for this book since I read Habits… I mean seriously, you should see my messages to Anna asking for this book and let me tell you it does not disappoint.
There was so much to this story I could not put it down.
Anna does such a great job of bringing them to life and I’m going to miss this series so much.
