“A man is lucky if he is the first love of a woman. A woman is luckier if she is the last love of a man.” –Charles DickensSkylar Rebel McKay’s life was changed forever at twelve years old when her father died at sea. Now an orphan with no family ties she leaves Seattle behind with no intention of ever returning. Now, a thirty-two-year-old Skylar is as far from her childhood home as she could get, … she could get, and exactly where she wants to be in New York City. A successful CEO in the finance world with a ball buster reputation and the strength and intelligence to back it up, her unconventional appearance only adds to her appeal. She commands attention every time she walks in a room. She knows it and uses this to her advantage however necessary.
But everything she’s avoided over the last twenty years could change all that when the past resurfaces in the worst way.
At fourteen years old, Deidrick ‘Dirk’ Xavier Tyler’s life was flipped on its axis, not once, but twice. The day his father died, and the day the love of his life moved away.
At thirty-four, Dirk has plenty of secrets. He’s got the looks and brooding temperament to match his wits and confidence. And he always gets what he wants. In New York on business, he sets his mind on a mission to find the one who got away.
He never blamed her for leaving.
But he hated her every day she was gone.
He realized in his teens, after his life was wrecked again and again, she was everything he needed. But he couldn’t just go after her, he had something to prove first.
Everything is on track.
Find her, see her, seduce her, and leave her wanting.
His plan would have worked, until she walks onto his boat and back into his heart.
With two vastly different lives can they find love and a balance that will keep them together?
Or will life continue to tear them apart?

Oh my heart!!! This book, I don’t even know how to put into words what an emotional roller coaster this book takes you on. I have loved every book by Zoey Derrick, but this might just be my favourite to this point. Skylar and Xavier both stole my heart right from the beginning and then stomped on it, broke it to pieces right along with their own, and then slowly and painfully put it back together in their own way. I yelled and laughed, cheered and cried and many times wanted to reach in and choke them both. This was a beautiful love story about second chances and fighting for what you really want.
Loved the book. Watching the story unfold over time was a emotional roller coaster. I was in total shock. Just when you think you know where the story is going it throws you for a loop. It was crazy awesome. Skylar and Dirk had a story that spanned through childhood. It takes you on a journey through ups and down through their lives. Secret loves, babies, heartache, joys, heartbreak, forever love. It was wonderful. Great read. Enjoy!
4.5 stars for – Always Love Me – by Zoey Derrick. This book is a complete stand-alone that will put you through an emotional wringer and it touches on a few sensitive subjects like substance abuse and suicide so reader discretion is advised. Fans of this author will not be disappointed as the soul deep connection she has us forge with her characters starts from the very beginning and carries you through to the final page. The explosive and carnal way she brings them together in the bedroom (among other places) makes for some entertaining and heated reading in ways you won’t soon forget.
Skylar and Dirk have known each other most of their lives but the day she left Seattle she assumed she also left Dirk behind for good. She went on to be quite successful with an attitude that commands respect. She has the intelligence and beauty in a artfully decorated body but that doesn’t stop her from being a financial powerhouse. She makes no apologies for who and/or what she wants and she gives as good as she gets until Dirk walks back into her life when she least expects it.
Omg this book was awesome. She and him were inseparable growing up and she had to leave after her dads death. She left without saying bye. He joins the military and he is wounded and he has an artificial leg. He is now a crabber and he works hard. She has to come back for the anniversary of her dads death n they see each other again.
There is a bunch of drama and romance. It is hot. The secrets within is soo good
This book is full of all the emotions that make a story, it will leave you feeling raw. But in the end, it will be worth taking this emotional roller coaster ride.
This is a story about Skylar and Dirk and it spans over 20 years. Their love is there for everyone to see but them. At times you wonder if they should be together. They push each other, need each other, and then one walks away. Sometimes you have to wonder if they really know each other at all.
If you are looking for a story that will rip your heart out, throw it on the ground, stomp on it and then pick it up and put it and you back together. Then this is a story for you because this story will leave you feeling all the pain and love that Skylar and Dirk have shared for more than 20 years.
Read this one, it is a standalone, enjoy it and fall in love with this couple and this author if you haven’t read anything from Zoey Derrick, you are in for a treat.
**I voluntarily read a complimentary copy of this book and this is my honest review**
This book is the love stories of all angsty love stories and a second chance read that you will never forget! Xavier and Rebel are two characters that have very relatable issues that make them so very real. Just be ready for this author to squeeze and twist your heart to the point of tears! Well done Zoey Derrick!
I was given an arc by the author in exchange for my honest review.
This book revolves around subjects that might hit too close to home for some people. Believe me, I know. I cried like a fountain throughout the book. It is rare that you can find books where the subjects that are brought up are written in such a way that the reader might think that the author speaks from personal experience which isn’t the case on the subject of amputation. However, the subject is approached in such a delicate yet raw way I don’t know how she does it. WELL DONE ZOEY.
Overall I believe that Zoey’s writing is more mature since she made her comeback without tuning down the sexy times we know and love from her.
