I wouldn’t say my life is a dumpster fire-but it’s far from typical. I’m frenemies with the local werewolves’ Alpha, my clients are shady as hell, and my magic falls firmly in the WTF category. Mephisto, my mysterious and powerful client, is more interested in my magic than the jobs he’s hired me for. And I’m pretty sure my court-ordered therapist thinks I’m an ass. Maybe it’s not a dumpster … fire, but it is a hot mess. That said, I’m good at my job. Anytime a curse goes wrong, a magical object is lost, or a rogue supernatural needs apprehending, I’m the person you call. My new job is supposed to be simple: Just find a coveted magical object. Instead my client is abducted, I’m pulled into the underbelly of the magical world, and a spell is cast on me that reveals a mark of the raven. Now I’m being hunted by the people I used to hunt. I’ve piqued the interest of the magical elite. And I don’t know who wants me as an ally and who wants me dead. I have to fix this. Because if I don’t, I won’t survive. I’ll start by saying I wanted to LOVE this book, I didn’t. It’s my personal preference and not any lack on the authors part. I simply didn’t think I was going to like any of the characters. But keep going if this is also what you’re thinking. It gets SO much better as you go. I finished the 4th book last night and am eagerly waiting for the next installment. It really is a good series. I’ll be looking for others by this author.
A wonderfully different take on magic and those who wield it.
I’ve read everything else McKenzie Hunter has written and this is by far my favourite yet. What a way to start the new series.
Erin is quite possibly the most relatable of all her female lead characters, with her unusual magical abilities, her struggles in trying to live up to expectations in controlling it and enough flaws to make her real and likeable. Mephisto reveals enough of himself to intrigue and yet hides enough to leave you wondering just who and what he really is. A wonderfully different take on magic and those who wield it. I can’t wait for book two.
This is a very good start for a serie. The characters are all presented to the reader though most of them is involved in a mystery cloud. Erin captivates us. She is like every human being struggling for her place, against her desires. New possibilities are opened to her and among it the possibility of changing her destiny.
Erin is what they called Raven Cursed. She is almost like an addict but in regards to magic. She doesn’t have any of her own bit she can borrow from another person that leave them dead.
As Erin os trying to fight this battle, she learns things about one of the guys she works with. Mephisto presents a offer she is having a hard time refusing.
There are bigger problems ahead for Erin and Mephisto besides her magic issue and attraction.
This book will draw you right in and keep you reading until your done. You are still wanting more. I can’t wait to see what is going to happen next.
The story was original. Lots of action and well paced. The editing was very good. For some reason, I kept putting it down and had to force myself to finish it. Not sure why. Can’t really put a finger on it except that the lead character, Erin, just didn’t click with me. Possibly the weird, dark magic that she has. Even the teaser at the end doesn’t grab me. I don’t think I’ll go on to the next book. But please pick it up and decide for yourself. Lots of people seem to like this author
Love the banter and complex relationship between Erin and Madison.
I want Benton The door dude’s job (just love it)… This book is truly amazing and I am again deeply impressed by McKenzie Hunter and this book more than exceeded my expectations.
I really love Mephisto his character is fascinating and I love the mystery surrounding the Raven Cursed. This book is filled with complex and interesting characters and the storyline is mysterious and full of tension.
If you love a heroine that is sassy, smart and full of sarcasm Erin is your girl!
I highly recommend this book.
Amazing beginning to an awesome new series! Complex and interesting characters a must read book!
