The first chapter of The Sandbar pulled me into Katie and Race’s story, a forbidden love. Yet it was more than that, a saga of love as endless as time.Race Conner was fell in love with Katie as a child and as time grew, he protected her more than ever. Katie matured and blossomed under his direction and he knew it was time to set her free. But could they truly ever be apart?
Debra has written a saga for all time and worth more than any five stars I could give.
This book is an emotional roller coaster between Katie and Race over a span of many years. Race and Katie grow together and over come life struggles throughout the story. We get to see their relationship change from friends to a love that lasts a life time. This was a great book!
This book was a rollercoaster ride in the best of ways. I loved both characters and the writing was excellent. A great introduction to this author and I can’t wait to read more of her work.
So this was my first read of Debra Kayn, and while I thought the book was well written with a great developing story line it was not my favorite. Now with that being said please note that this is just a personal preference for me. I would definitely read more of Mrs. Kayn in the future. I am not normally one who has issues with age gaps at all, however this one for me personally was to big of a gap and I had a hard time seeing the connection between Race and Katie. I refuse to give spoilers so I can’t go into detail as to what I didn’t like about the book. Overall the book is enjoyable and very well written. It just wasn’t my cup of tea. I will definitely be looking for her in the future and plan to read her MC series everyone keeps raving about.
WOW! this story is so well written with great characters that will take you on an emotional ride. A page turner from the very beginning, I found myself totally immersed in their story and felt I was there living it with them. Highly recommend this one – the author certainly knows how to weave a story.
A love that spans decades and lasts a lifetime is the best way I can summarize this beautiful story. I love the detail the author provides, with the backdrop, the characters, all the small details that make the story so real that you feel you know this place and these people. This book is different from the other Debra Kayn books I’ve read but has the same attention to detail and depth of the emotional journey she takes you on.
Upon starting The Sandbar Saga I was a little leery simply because it was about a therapist and his patient. The Code of Ethics is not something that I take lightly, but the synopsis caught my eye so I wanted to give it a go. Plus I was blessed enough to receive an ARC, so heeeey! I’m thoroughly pleased to say that Dr. Connor didn’t cross the line, not only while she was his patient, but also while she was a minor.
Now full disclosure, I absolutely love watching two characters grow together. There’s something about watching an older man and younger woman over many years that it’s tickles my fancy. Dr. Connor said it perfectly:
“I know you better than anyone ever will, Katie. I’ve spent years shaping the way you think, the way you feel, the way you react. I can predict your behavior before you even know what you’re going to do…”
Because he had shaped her. He was really the only male figure she’s had since she was 12 years old. Some may have a problem with that…but me personally, I love it. He didn’t act on it, he was simply aware and honest with himself about it.
Dr Connor reminds me a lot of Chief, whom I absolutely loved, so I was super excited for this. They’re both aware of their feelings for the heroine from the get go, however don’t act upon them. They wait for the appropriate time and strike with all their might. Now I feel Connor holds himself back a little more than Chief did, but The Sandbar Saga is a lighter read, so it was totally expected.
I’d def recommend this 5 star read!!!
A forbidden love romance. My heart hurt for the child Katie was but melted for the woman she became. Hooked from the start this story touched my heart and at times left me reeling with raw and painful emotions. Katie went thru so much as a child from losing her father and the treatment of a mother who was never a mother. Dr. Conner (Race) enters her life when she needed someone who sees beyond the broken girl she was. Someone who cared and understood her. And most of all was there for her. There was a connection from the start for both. One that Race struggled to not cross the line on. You see love in teenage eyes that blossoms thru adulthood. The heart loves who it does despite age and the possibility of being forbidden. An emotional read worth reading.
Such an amazing story!! I loved the story of Race and Katie. The way they “grow” together is so beautiful! I loved how the spans so many years. Truly heartwarming, well done Debra Kaye.
