Before there was Ana and Jaden, there was Deona and Jove… the first incarnation of the Balance Bringer and her Tracer. In a time of great imbalance, three elves plead for a Balance Bringer. Their prayers are answered, but not in the way they expect…Deona has power beyond imagination … and beyond her control. To keep her power in check, her soul is divided into three parts: Deona, Estala, and … into three parts: Deona, Estala, and Fianna. The three sisters each take the gift of one element – water, earth, and air.
“From one, we became three. And from three, we are one. Always one.”
In their seventeenth year, their fourth element – fire – is awakened. And so is the darkness, which comes to wreak havoc on the world. Only Deona and her sisters have the power to balance the elements and set the world right once more.
But to balance the world,Deona must first find balance within herself. The path to realizing her destiny is filled with trial, sacrifice, and world-changing adventure.
This fast-paced, action-packed, magical, coming-of-age adventure, with a touch of romance, and a plethora of family entanglements, is ideal for fans of The Mortal Instruments and The Cruel Prince.

I haven’t read any of the other books in this series and I found that with this book I didn’t need too. This book was amazing well written I didn’t feel lost knowing that the book is part of a series. I feel in love with the characters straight away and the ones I felt I needed to be more aware of was evident by the writing.
I’m now more than ever intrigued by this series and I’m looking forward to reading more of this series.
Magic, trolls, fae, satyr, elves, immortal warriors this book has it all. The adventure begins right from the start and doesn’t stop with fights between fae and trolls, with one character being split into 3 characters. Friendships grow and change, relationships blossom. Overall a book that I loved.
Interesting YA coming of age story. It was a bit slow to start and somewhat confusing at first. The reader tends to learn things as Deona and not all are explained. There was a steep learning curve for Deona and a tear-jerker is some spots.
SpoiIers! I am curious as to how each regeneration will play out.

Deona is born of a light clan elf and an immortal warrior. She is the first Balance Bringer. This is her life story and all that happens to the first balance bringer, because of what her aunts do she will be reborn many times. The first story was very imaginative. Lots happen and you meet many interesting characters. A very good read that I would recommend for all ages.

Great book
This is the first time in reading this author. What drew me to her was the world and the story that tempted me to enter. In this you are given the story of the first Balance Bringer and her Tracer. Not having read the others I get this at a different perspective that I found gives it a beginning to understand those after better. Elves have their hand in this but of course as in real life things have their own order as it does in this story but not how they expected. You are given the path on that the sisters are and why. Deona and Jove come out of this with us devouring their way along their paths. You encounter questions that you want answers to. You get elements also that have you engulfed in adventure that will have twists. Having loved one other elemental series this one was a delight to read. As I did devour this one it had me wanting the rest that go to it.

Just look at this gorgeous cover!
I have never read any of this author’s previous books. I was pleased to find that this book works as a standalone. In the series, it is listed as Book 3.5, but it is an origin story, taking place many generations before the other books. The epilogue provides information that explains why this book follows the first three rather than preceding them. It is also important to know that this is a full-length novel and not a novella.
I was immediately captivated by the prologue. The author’s writing is vivid, beautiful, and even a bit quirky. I knew from the beginning that this book would be bursting with imaginative world-building and characters full of depth. I accepted this ARC several weeks ago and did not begin reading it until the other day. I did not read the synopsis again prior to reading, and I suggest that you do not either. So many beautiful surprises are in store, and it is so much better of an experience if you let the book reveal them to you!
My only issue with the book, besides some spelling and grammar errors (which may have been corrected in the final release) was the first chapter. I felt that 6 year old Deona was speaking far too formally for a child of that age, while the narrative in that chapter was overly simplistic. The dichotomy was jarring. Thankfully, there was only one chapter written this way.
Based on this novel, I will definitely be reading the other books in The Balance Bringer Chronicles. After the epilogue, the author announced her upcoming book Igniting: The Balance Bringer (Book 4), so I hope to get caught up on the series before it is released!
I would like to thank Booksprout and the author for providing me with a free Kindle ARC of this book in exchange for an honest review.
I really enjoyed being about to read about Deona and her being the first balance bringer. It added so much more to the world and makes certain things a bit clearer. I tend to be cautious about prequels or origin stories because they can either be just what you need or a disappointment. Thankfully, The First Balance Bringer was exactly what I was waiting for and it did not disappoint one bit.

“Enjoy your days. Have fun. For the day will come when you three will be required to once again become one.” – Edea
Deona, an ethereal entity, The Balance Bringer, has unimaginable powers; complete and utter control over the elements… But she’s only six years old. After Deona does the unthinkable to the humans, her aunts attempt to curtail her abilities by dividing her powers into Deona’s two new “sisters”: Estala and Fianna; with the caveat that someday the three would again become one…
The unexpected arrival of two young Fae, who had been injured due to a confrontation with an infected group of trolls, was a break from the routine monotony of their lives. Fianna soon becomes infatuated with Sol, and Deona can’t take her eyes from Sol’s companion, Jove. Destiny will not be denied, however, as visions and dreams foretell changes…. and Deona’s world will be forever altered…
A fantastical, lyrical narration, with beings known and unknown; told in the beginning with a sense of childlike innocence and pureness of heart. The changes and challenges faced by Deona and her companions are many and varied, with each challenge tempering Deona as if a fine iron blade undergoing forging into unbreakable steel…
This is the first book I have read by Debra Kristi. Dive into the world of magic with elves, unicorns, satyrs, owls, and trolls. Deona learns how to bring balance to herself and the world. Great action adventure, can’t wait to read more!

Unique and entertaining! I haven’t read any of the other books in this series yet, but am excited to now. From what I gather, this one is a prequel, so it’ll be interesting to see how the stories tie in with each other. There’s lots of magical elements right from the start. 1 magically powerful girl is split into 3. They are like triplets, but not really. They know what is in the other’s thoughts and feelings. Each girl has a magical affinity. Deona was the original girl, she can heal, talk to animals, and has water power. Fianna has air power. Estala has Earth power. Deona is great; I like Estala too, not a huge fan of boy crazy Fianna. Still love that bond between the sisters. The girls help save 2 guys from a troll fight, so there’s a bit of romance there. Jove is great and has an interesting magical ability; precognition type stuff. Sol is the troublemaker and is like the male version of Fianna. Lots of fun magical stuff; trolls, elves, unicorns, satyrs, etc. There’s sort of a Medieval type feel to the story. Some cool adventure and ideas. A little slow moving, but interesting the whole time. There’s also some darkness on the loose to cause some problems for the characters; not to mention the possibility of the sisters becoming one again. Good stuff!
Three fae sisters who control the elements come together after ten years apart. One is pregnant and gives her life so the baby may live. The young baby now has two aunts with magic and a warrior elven father who is immortal. At six, her powers prove to be too strong to control, so the aunts intervene where they should not and split her into three separates, but one identity. They know at one point they will merge back into one. Ten years pass and the three girls are turning 17. They discover two boys in a village fighting trolls. The three girls, the aunts, the two boys and a couple others are called on a journey to help balance darkness and light. Along the way, battles will be fought, sacrifices made, new understanding, and a new love will occur. The blackness that threatens to overshadow the world is evil incarnate and it will take two to battle it! What will happen? Who will die and survive? What two will save the world? Find out when you read this action-packed book! I received this book via Booksprout and am leaving a voluntary review.
