When Hope decides her parents can no longer choose her life for her, she answers an ad for a mail-order bride. Luckily, she finds one who lives in the same place as her best friend. She boards a train and goes west – unbeknownst to her parents – on her birthday instead of having her engagement announced to her father’s choice of husbands.
Things don’t go quite as she planned, to say the least.
A good book that will hold your attention.
This is a well written mail order bride story filled with twists, turns, mystery and romance. The author does a great job building the story and taking you back in time with her descriptive and detailed scenes. Her characters are strong and she moves it at a steady pace delivering an entertaining story. I would recommend this book.

Hope, a spoiled rich girl, rebels against a marriage arranged by her father, and answers an ad for a Mail-Order Bride. Fleeing Maryland for the Wild West, she’s soon in way over her head in circumstances she’s never even imagined. She realizes that her parents have sheltered her, and she’s never learned basic things like cooking and cleaning.
I had a hard time warming up to Hope until later in the book. The plot is a good one, although a bit predictable. There’s a mystery to be solved, and love developing between the H/H. All-in-all, it’s an enjoyable read that kept me up into the wee hours of the night.
The Redemption of a Hunted Bride by Clarice Mayfield is a mail order bride story with twists and turns. While Hope is in Boston, trying to circumvent her father’s wishes, Owen is a Nevada sheriff hunting a serial killer. As it happens Hope’s best friend, Jessamine lives on a farm near Owen, and Hope has just found an ad for a mail order bride there. She is not quite ready to take the leap but decides to send a telegram to Jessamine asking her to go check the gentleman and see if he is all he seems to be. She anxiously awaits Jessamine’s reply but fails to receive it before she must leave or be caught up in this hated betrothal. When she arrives in Rippingate, one of the first people she meets is the sheriff who takes her to Mr. Dalbow’s farm. This life is so different; and where is Jessamine. The sheriff said he’s come back in a couple of days and escort her but he hasn’t come. Mr. Dalbow said he would take her but now he needs to leave on urgent business. Things are certainly different here in Nevada.
The Redemption of a Hunted Bride is part mystery and part romance. Some more solid research would have boded well for the story. It is highly unlikely that Hope would have had a Hispanic maid in Boston at this time, for instance. The characters were interesting but not well rounded. The mystery was not terrible but shallow, as well. The setting could have been wonderful but there was little exposition about it. This was not a terrible book but not a well-crafted one, either. I would recommend it to fill the time, as it was a quick read but the reader can do better.
