I received a free electronic copy of this psychological drama from author Tom Bierdz. Thank you for sharing your hard work with me. I have read this work of my own volition, and this review reflects my honest opinion of The Secret Keeper.
Tom Bierdz’s series of Dr. Garrick tales set in the Seattle area are all excellent, with recurring characters that over time become as welcome as your Great Aunt Sally. Grant Garrick is just an ordinary man, making the odd mistake but owning it, and struggling as do we all to get though daily trials and lifetime hauntings. The fact that he is a psychiatrist might offer him a little insight into the problems of himself and others, but it doesn’t seem to ease the pains of his own life choices or the effects of life events on his psyche.
The Secret Keeper involves what Grant considers a personal favor, simply keeping safe something until his patient makes it through one of life’s challenges, in this case, brain cancer. Only if the patient doesn’t make it should Grant pass on this hidden item to one specific friend. What he finds at the end of the challenge is a federal case for treason – against him. With the help of his ex and her little brother, the odd cop and lawyer friend Carrie, Grant looks for a path to tiptoe through this labyrinth of life and death and secrets.
Wow, page turner, The Secret Keeper by Author Tom Bierdz goes the gambit when a secret to be kept is done as a favor for one of Grant Garrick’s patient’s, and definitely drives home the old saying that no good deed goes unpunished. Garrick pays the ultimate price for the good deed, and gets involved knee deep in a twists and turns adventure that leads him down a lot of unwanted paths. Action that drives this page turner is nothing to sniff at either. Very exciting tale that this reader found emphasized Author Tom Bierdz’s ability to tell that wonderfully written story in The Secret Keeper! Had me glued to the story throughout the whole book. Spies, life threatening events, murder and mayhem, and a mess of a tangled web ensues, that takes the reader on many journeys as the well written plot works itself out for justice. Compelling read!!! Grant Garrick, stand up guy and doctor, actually…well…oops NO SPOILERS. Suffice it to say, no reader can go wrong with Book 5 in Tom Bierdz’s Psychaitrist Grant Garrick Series!!! I LOVED this book!!! Main character Grant Garrick never lets the reader down ever. Author Tom Bierdz makes SURE of that with his very accomplished writing of this Series which also never lets the reader down! GREAT SERIES!! ENJOY!!
The Secret Keeper is the 5th book in the Psychiatrist Grant Garrick Series by Tom Bierdz.
I’ve read a couple of the other books, but not all of them. That being said, I am easily able to pick up this book without having to worry about missing key plot or character information because of not having read the other books. However, Mr. Bierdz’ books have yet to disappoint and they would be a great investment if you decided to read them in order.
Dr. Grant Garrick has his own practice in the Seattle area. He has to work past his own demons after suffering the loss of his teenage son to suicide- a tragedy that his wife could not forgive him for. She felt that he should have been able to see the signs and save his own son. Now, years have passed, his marriage has failed, but he has continued to move forward with his practice. Until one day, when a patient asks an odd request of him. To hold on to a thumb drive with valuable information that he can’t allow anyone else to steal. Against his better judgment, Grant agrees and that sets off a series of events that leave him wondering what he’s gotten himself into.
This story takes off into a set of twists and turns that kept me guessing and always ready to turn to the next page. The characters are believable and the background is authentic. I’d recommend this book to anyone looking for a little mystery and intrigue. Thumbs up!
Ready to go on a wild ride with Dr. Garrick, and a wild ride it was. Page turning action in this psychological thriller from beginning to end. Just when you think you know what is going on there’s a twist and a turn just to keep you interested. Pick this book up you won’t regret it.
This is a great addition to this very interesting series about a psychiatrist, Grant Garrick, who keeps getting mixed up in various adventures.
In this story Grant is given a USB drive to look after by one of his patients, but then the patient dies and the trouble really starts.
There are a lot of twists and turns in this book, and lots of interesting characters, several of whom are not what they seem at first. The story reaches an exciting climax and the truth emerges.
I thoroughly enjoyed reading this advance copy and have voluntarily written this honest review.
Never lose your professionalism! Unfortunately, Dr. Garrick ignored this tenet of the medical profession. His relationships with a patient, and with a substitute receptionist drug him into the middle of a murder mystery, with him as the prime suspect. With twists and turns, people not what they profess to be, threats, and promises, Dr. Garrick doesn’t know where to turn.
I absolutely LOVE this series!! If Dr, Garrick was a real psychiatrist, I might be tempted to make an appointment. He is thoughtful, considerate, and complete with his own problems. In other words, he comes off as a good man, but with human foibles.
I received an ARC of this book, but this review is made willingly because it is fantastic!! You won’t see it coming!!
Dr. Garrick agrees to keep a flash drive for one of his regular patients, a man concerned about the fact that corporate raiders have taken over his company. The flash drive holds a formula he doesn’t want anyone to know about as yet.
Little does he know that this simple act of helping his patient will lead to violence and murder … car accidents …. an office break in …. and a woman who fills in for his assistant who suffers an injury.
Garrick finds himself suspected of murder … throw in a mix of Russian and Chinese spy rings .. and not only is he running from them … he’s also running from the police and FBI.
This is an action-packed, nail biter, full of twists and turns and no one seems to be who or what they appear to be.
For those who have followed this series, you absolutely will not be disappointed. Each book in the series seems better than the last. Although 5th in this series, it is easily read as a stand alone.
Many thanks to the author for the digital copy of this excellent addition to this crime fiction series. Read and reviewed voluntarily, opinions expressed here are unbiased and entirely my own.
When Grant agrees to keep a flash drive for one of his client’s it opens a whole can of worms that he should have stayed out of! There are now Russian and Chinese people after him. He finds out too late that his patient and this flash drive are not what he said it was. Will Grant be able to save himself from this? Another great story by Tom Bierdz! I voluntarily reviewed an ARC of this book.
If you enjoy twists and turns this book will keep you up reading long past your bedtime. Dr. Garrick has gotten himself into a deep and involved situation this time. Jail looms on a very close horizon.
I loved how the author brought so many different everyday issues to this story. The characters are very believable. Unlike previous books in the series, in this story I really wanted to take the good doctor and just slap him upside the head. For someone with so much intelligence and education, he truly shows a very human nature and acts with his heart instead of his head. This of course leads him into the mess he finds himself buried in.
Even if you haven’t read any of the previous books this book can stand alone and you’ll be able to enjoy the story.
I received a free ARC copy of this book and this is my honest opinion.
“I’ve spent hours… days, actually, exploring who I could leave it with… You’re bound by doctor-patient confidentiality. You’re the keeper of secrets.” – Francois Du Blois
Thus began the descent into madness…
Dr. Grant Garrick was a competent psychiatrist; perhaps not brilliant, but very good at understanding his patients’ psyche’s and assisting them in overcoming phobias and in coming to terms with the blows that life had dealt them. However, he himself, hid a dark secret; the suicide of his fifteen-year-old son, Kevin. Castigating himself repeatedly, how did he fail to see the signs of depression in his own son? His ex-wife Hanna felt the same, which is why she was an ex. Kevin’s suicide had destroyed his marriage and torn a permanent void into his soul.
But Dr. Garrick had mostly recovered from that devastation, or so he had convinced himself. His practice was growing again, thanks to his dedication to his patients and the referrals that followed. His life was finally getting back on track, that is, until Francis Du Blois entrusted him with the deadliest secret of all…
He grinned mischievously. “If I told you, I’d have to kill you.” – Francois Du Blois
The situation that Dr. Garrick soon finds himself embroiled in is a quagmire of ethics, patient confidentiality, and danger. No matter which way he jumps or what decision he makes, Dr. Garrick is surrounded deceit, duplicity… And betrayal…
Hang on because you are in for one, intense, wild ride! The action just doesn’t stop in this psychological thriller! A definite page turner!
Riveting!
Grant Garrick is not a detective or a spy; he is a psychiatrist just trying to rebuild his life after the suicide of his son and his subsequent divorce from Hannah. When Dr. Francois DuBois, a brilliant but paranoid patient, hands him a flash drive and gives him contact information for someone to give the drive to “if something happens to him”, Grant unwillingly accepts it under the premise that he will help his patient deal with the paranoia and then return the drive. Unfortunately, that opportunity never comes. Grant finds himself enmeshed in a conspiracy and the target of both law enforcement, and criminals as victims and evidence seem to point to him as the perpetrator.
This is a solid crime thriller with non-stop action and suspense. The author maintains and grows the tension by giving the reader insights into Grant Garrick’s fear and confusion as he tries to unravel a web of deceit and danger.
