When Drew Blackmore is beaten up and abducted, he finds himself in a desperate situation – chained up and left with scarcely enough food to survive, he struggles to work out what he must have done to deserve such treatment. Meanwhile, his wife Holly runs to Drew’s brother for help, but as the pair grow closer, the truth about her husband’s past slowly begins to emerge.
This is a typical Maggie James thriller with a strong, twisty-turny plot and well-drawn characters. Drew’s desperate situation kept me wondering what on earth was coming next, and I especially liked the difficult relationship between Holly and Todd, which is craftily plotted and realistic in its portrayal. Though I did get a bit confused at times, Ms James managed to bring everything together at the end with her usual panache.
A first-rate psychological thriller, delivering exactly what we’ve learned to expect from this very talented author.
I have never read anything by this author, the cover and then the blurb caught my attention. I was blown away with just how fantastic this book is. The plot is amazing and has a lot going on with the different characters who are all very well written with nice depth to them. There are so many emotions and mysteries to be revealed in this book. I was sitting on the edge of my seat at times whilst reading this. I am looking forward to reading more from this author in the future as I found this book to be absolutely brilliant.

I don’t often read a thriller, so when I do, I hope that it’s a great selection. And Silent Winter certainly delivers. Drew is leaving work, and hit over the head with a tire iron. He wakes up naked, alone, chained to the floor in a dark room. His wife Holly is beside herself with his disappearance. This is not a quick or easy read. The descriptions of Drew’s captivity are extremely graphic. The story line is complex and twisted, done intentionally so the reader can’t figure out the mystery too early. There are family secrets, hidden relationships, and so much mystery & suspense that I was on the edge of my seat most of the time. The book is well written, and the characters are incredibly deep. This is my first read from this author, and the book does not disappoint.
