Almost Like Being in Love
Rock & Roll Forever, Book 5
By: Mary J. Williams
Narrated by: Daniela Acitelli
Mary J. Williams does it again, she writes another awesome story for her “Rock & Roll Forever” series. This is may be more of a novella sized book but managed to fit a lot of story into it. This story is Jedidiah “Tilly” Tillman’s story, a former Marine who took a job working for Beckett, a housekeep plus a number of other skills. While serving the Marines he had a thing for his his superior officer, Lieutenant Kai Northham, a smart, kickass woman and completely forbidden so he kept his feelings to himself. I loved the chemistry between them and their season greetings to each as they spend the holiday together and dodging bullets. Both left the service and went on to live civilian lives, but they do have a chance meeting several years later and it almost happened for them then but she got called away for an assignment she was working on. They kept in touch but for some reason Tilly was afraid to tell her how he felt about her. Just before the holidays Beck & Sawyer present him with a ticket to France for a 10 day escape in a private cabin in an exclusive resort. With much convincing he goes and is completely surprised by who is there, Kai Northam. I loved how their story plays out, it is a love story ten years in the making. Also loved catching up with what the members of Razor’s Edge are up to. After binge listening to the series this book was the perfect cure for a book hangover, it is always sad when a series comes to an end, hopefully it is only the end for now, would love to hear more about these great characters down the road. Mary J. Williams thank you for another enjoyable and entertaining story.
I listened to the Audible Edition, Daniela Acitelli is a terrific narrator and voice artist. She continues to bring these characters to life and their story to life. She is a natural talent and it is amazing how she grasps the heart of these characters, humanizing them and capturing their emotions. She is an entertaining storyteller and a pleasure to listen to. Thank you for another awesome listen
Serving together in the military, Tilly and Kai were not allowed to fraternize. Kai was Tilly’s superior officer so any feelings they might have for each other were kept to themselves. Fast forward to a chance meeting when they’re not in the military and sparks fly, but no time to act on the attraction. Another chance meeting and again due to circumstances beyond their control, nothing happens. Will they ever be able to have some time for themselves?
Tilly gets a Christmas ‘gift’ from his employers. A ten day stay in France. He’s not quite as excited as he might be, if he knew Kai had set up the whole thing! A lodge in the snow with Kai for ten days…dreams do come true. Battle buddies, colleagues, friends, then lovers. Will it be a happily ever after or a happily for now ending?
What a great novella! Just long enough to tie up loose ends, but with enough heart and heat to complement the Rock and Roll Forever series.
This was a short and sweet book and I really enjoyed it. My only pet peeve is that Tilly and Kai are Marines but some of the references sounded like they were in the Army. It’s a small annoying thing but it didn’t really detract from their story.
I received an arc and the opinions and views are my own. I like Tilly and am so glad the author gave him his own love story. The ending was great! Couldn’t have been better. Kia is a real badass and perfect for Tilly. Love the way they finally get together. An excellent read and I would recommend this book to everyone.
Almost Like Being In Love is a sweet love story perfect for this season of the year. Tilly and Kai keep running in to each other as they are both in the military. A day here and there is all they seem to get. Tilly cant say anything about his attraction to Kai as she is his superior officer. How and when will they finally get time alone to explore their feelings? You will need to read this sweet romance to find out. This book ended too soon for me. I wanted it to continue. You will enjoy Tilly and Kai’s relationship. I did.
Aww I love Tilly and Kai. What a super power couple. Master Sergeant Jedidiah Tillman, aka Tilly, and Lieutenant Kai Northam, served in the military together (I love that she’s his superior) and have known each other for ten years. Being in the military prevents them from acting on any feelings they may have. Two years later, one missed opportunity led to many phone calls, and brief encounters but never anything more. Even though Tilly wants more with Kai, their timing is always off. Until a surprise vacation finally gives them the opportunity to spend 10 whole days together and unimpeded they are able to unleash all that pent up sexual frustration. But more than their physical attraction, they also discover that they really had a lot in common and they wanted a deeper relationship but could they make it work. After all, Kai is a free spirit constantly traveling for her job and Tilly has already settled in Eatonville.
I love their chemistry and the fact that they were friends first and foremost only made the story so much better. Their sparing matches were so good. They are both such badasses. I loved these characters and everything about this story and the way it unfolded and how it concluded. Absolutely wonderful series.
Ten years ago, Master Sergeant Jedidiah Tillman, aka Tilly, and Lieutenant Kai Northam, his superior officer, served together in the military. Tilly had a major crush on Kai, but couldn’t do anything about it because of their status. Two years later, both are out of the military, and they run into each other in Chicago, while Kai is on an assignment. They both acknowledge that they want to be together, but she gets called away before anything can happen. Six years later, they agree to have dinner together at the airport; these plans end up being thwarted once again because of weather delays. These two have a strong bond, but they have both been yearning for each other for a decade without being able to do anything about it.
Suffice it to say, they do eventually end up together for a 10-day holiday in France. Knowing that Kai is a free-spirit who doesn’t like to be tied to one place, Tilly is reluctant to share his feelings during their vacation. Tilly has found a home and he is very happy. He is the head of the household and personal chef for Sawyer and Beck Kramer, and that is how these characters are tied into the Rock and Roll Forever Series, also by Mary J. Williams.
This story focuses on Kai and Tilly, but there are several interactions with the characters from Razor’s Edge and the aforementioned series. This book is like the dessert after the main course of those books. It ties up things nicely and adds a little extra dose of the characters from Razor’s Edge, and leaves the reader feeling full, satisfied, and wearing a smile.
The pace is steady throughout the course of this book, and the story keeps the reader interested. There is some suspense, but it appears near the end of the story. The ending was a delightful surprise and very fitting. This reader recommends the whole Rock and Roll Forever series as well as the companion series about the Ryder Hart Band, titled the Hart of Rock and Roll.
Wow, I really liked Tilly’s story. He and Kai are both so tough as nails, independent, loyal. They have had a crush on each other for 10 years, but could not act on it at first, as she was his commanding officer. Now? They’re both out of the service, they keep bumping into each other over the years, but nothing ever works out. Then one year, Tilly takes a vacation, and finds a surprise! Loved the book!
This book is everything… and much more!
So sweet, so romantic, so emotional…
I loved both characters. Tilly, the former Marine, now housekeeper of a rock star, hot, sexy, charming, caring…
And Kai, badass, superhero-like, tough, a tigress and a kitten at the same time…
Together they are perfect, literally made for each other and so vividly created that I expected them to step out of these pages at any moment.
This is the picture purrfect ending to a more than purrfect series!
I quickly became immersed in Tilly and Kai’s story and before I knew it the sun was coming up and I had spent the entire night following Tilly and Kai on their holiday get away and exciting adventure.
I thoroughly enjoyed the format Ms Williams utilized in telling Tilly and Kai’s story; incorporating the story of how they met and became friends 10 years prior, into the tale of their present day adventures, as well as tying their story into the rest of the men and women who I met when reading the Rock and Roll Forever Series.
This holiday themed page turner will be a welcome addition to my library of Mary J. Williams titles to go back and read whenever I want to loose myself in a great story that is filled with love, laughter, and intrigue in a tastefully sensual story.
Almost Like Being in Love
Rock & Roll Forever, Book 5
By: Mary J. Williams
Narrated by: Daniela Acitelli
Mary J Williams comes through again, with a novella for her Rock and Roll Forever series. This one doesn’t feature the band members, but we do get cameo appearances them. We do get a fantastic couple. Jedidiah aka Tilly, a former Marine has taken a job for Beckett. Though retired, he never forgot the one woman who got under his skin, Kai. She as his commanding officer, and he never acted on his feelings. Kai, a civilian now too, the two have kept in touch. Now, it’s Christmas, and Beck is sending Tilly away for 10 days to France and who is there? You guessed it. What a fantastic short this one is. The story is fun, and the chemistry is hot. Williams finishes out this series with a bang, letting us enjoy a romance smoldering for years until the flames burn hot. And we get to spend New Year’s with our favorites from Razor’s Edge. It’s a great way to bring the story to its end, though I can definitely see some spinoffs in the future!
Daniela Acitelli brings this entire series to life and finishes with fantastic narration. She is this series, each band member with its own voice, and now gives her talent to Kai and Tilly. She knows exactly how to tell this story, giving all the heart string pulls and passion.
