Kate Weller¿s boss, Nate Price, has some exciting news: Julian Frazier, a friend of one of the agency¿s wealthy clients, has invited the Nate Price Investigations team and their partners on a trip of a lifetime to his home on Elysian Island, an exclusive retreat off the Georgian coast.
But there¿s a catch. Frazier has written his own murder mystery script, and the PIs must work out whodunnit. … whodunnit. As they¿re about to discover, though, the murder Frazier wants them to solve is a real cold case, and there’s a killer twist that isn’t in the script . . .

I love suspense novels by Mary Ellis, and each time I read a new one, it becomes my favorite. ISLAND OF LAST RESORTS is full of both wonderful characters, with one evil one in the mix. The plot line is unpredictable, action-packed, and sometimes scary. This is one of those books didn’t want to stop reading when I had to cook or go to bed. The suspense kept me turning pages long after I should have stopped reading for the day.
Well I made the mistake of starting this book late afternoon and went way, way past my bedtime. It’s that good. Now that I have discovered this series I’m going back to read the previous two mysteries. I had no problem reading this as a stand alone.
Kate Weller is part of a group, Price Investigations, who are invited for a group get away which soon turns deadly. Instead they are guests on a private island to be part of what they think is to be a murder mystery party but their host has really brought them together to find out who killed his wife. And then the killing starts but Kate isn’t on the island due to her boyfriend dealing with a family issue. That delays Kate from joining them and when she and Eric do get to the island plans have changed again. The group is on another island and getting there becomes next to impossible until the owners nephew steps in.
I’m not going to say anything more for fear of spoilers. Just know that the mystery is very well crafted and the tensions run high as does the body count. It was quite a ride.
ISLAND OF LAST RESORT……Mary Ellis
Kate was excited to share news with Eric, a trip of a lifetime . He wasn’t, a retreat for the company of private investigator, on a private island for a week. . Her boss intimidates her, and would put a lot of strain on their new relationship. With her having come to meet his family…The owner of the island wanted to play a mystery game, if one doesn’t meet the challenges, it put them at risk. A good series, and bringing a closer with this 3 rd book.
Given ARC for my voluntary review and my honest opinion by Net Galley
and. Severn House Publishers.
This book is a page turner, and I loved being back with these characters that I have learned to care about and know.
When we begin this read, I thought wow take me along on this awesome sounding vacation, who wouldn’t want to be wined and dined at what sounded like a five-star private island?
You will soon find out what it is like, and what your expected to do to stay there, and you will have to decide how you want to play the game.
This read often had my heart in my throat as we went along, and I never knew what was around the next corner. Whom can you trust, and will these people ever return from this island?
Facts are reveal and there are some surprises, and in the end, I still want more visits,
