Dangerous secrets and forbidden desires lead to shocking consequences… Don’t miss book two of the fantastical Harbinger trilogy from #1 New York Times bestselling author Jennifer L. Half-angel Trinity and her bonded gargoyle protector, Zayne, have been working with demons to stop the apocalypse while avoiding falling in love. The Harbinger is coming…but who or what is it? All of humankind may fall if Trinity and Zayne can’t win the race against time as dark forces gather.
As tensions rise, they must stay close together and patrol the DC streets at night, seeking signs of the Harbinger, an entity that is killing Wardens and demons with no seeming rhyme or reason. Forbidden to be with each other, Zayne and Trinity fight their feelings and turn to unusual sources for help—the demon Roth and his cohorts. But as deaths pile up and they uncover a sinister plot involving the local high school and endangering someone dear to Zayne, Trin realizes she is being led…herded…played for some unknown end. As anger builds and feelings spiral out of control, it becomes clear that rage may be the ruin of them all.

What a ride that was!
Zayne and Trinity. Trinity and Zayne. What is there to say? Or rather, what’s ISN’T there to say?
I fell in love with this story last year after I borrowed Storm & Fury from the library on a whim. Zayne was a little bit of a stinker (which I loved — and after reading Dark Elements actually appreciate even more) and Trinity was a little reckless and whole lot sassy. It made for a great story and by the end I was ready for more.
I waited what feels like forever for Rage & Ruin, but as per usual, Jen did not disappoint! I couldn’t put this one down.
We pick up where we left off in Storm & Fury. Tensions are high and the status of the world is steadily getting worse as the Harbinger’s identity is still unknown and the feelings Trinity and Zayne experienced for one another are now forbidden. No one knows the consequences — but is the unknown going to be enough to keep them apart?
This book wrecked me so good. I rode a rollercoaster of emotion through the entire thing. It was action packed, heartfelt, and full of plot twists that left my jaw on the floor.
Something you should know about me, is that I collect book boyfriends. The list is quite long, actually. Prior to this book, Zayne was nothing more than a blip on my radar, but after — I couldn’t stop thinking about him! He has grown so much as a character since Dark Elements and I absolutely love it!
I completely recommend this series to anyone who enjoys paranormal/fantasy romances. Jen does a fantastic job delivering all of what you need. The only warning I’ll give you is this — be prepared to have your socks knocked off.
Oh.
My.
Stars!
Y’all Jennifer L. Armentrout knocked it out of the park with this one!
First I must start by saying that Rage And Ruin is book 2 in the Harbinger Series. It’s a true series and picks up right where the first book left off, so if you haven’t yet, then read Storm And Fury first!
Full disclosure, The Harbinger Series is a spin-off from The Dark Elements Series, so if you’re a purist like me, or just wanna know everybody’s backstory and business…like me, then I recommend starting with The Dark Elements Series and then reading The Harbinger Series. Because, let’s be honest, one of the great things about JLA’s series is falling into these amazing worlds she creates and getting wrapped up in the characters. So definitely make sure you’re caught up before diving in.
I was so excited for this book. Storm And Fury was the tip of the iceberg on the Zayne and Trinity’s story, and I couldn’t wait to see how things would play out after the whole protector/trueborn bonding. This book did not disappoint! The moment I started this book I was hooked. It’s the perfect mix of forbidden love, unexpected alliances, and a mind blowing ending that has me DYING for the next book!
I love Trinity. In this book we get to see more of her personality. She really grows. Trinity is fierce, witty, and brave, but she’s also flawed. She can be impulsive and selfish, but her flaws are what make her so relatable. And Zayne! Y’all he really flexed his “swoony book boyfriend” muscle in this book. He’s protective and loyal, but he also recognizes that Trinity doesn’t need a savior; all she needs is a partner. There’s a wonderful slow burn to their relationship as they navigate their feelings and the bond, and I AM HERE FOR IT!
In the midst of all this swooning and character growth, Zayne and Trinity are working tirelessly to uncover the harbinger and what is coming. It’s an adventure from start to finish, and I can not wait for what’s to come!
I’m not entirely sure where to start with this review. I want to remain as spoiler free as I can and need to get my emotions in check. First of all, this book tore my heart apart. Not just the story but the description of Trinity’s life with RP. Thinking about how that is what Jennifer goes through herself was a little more than I could bear and I was crying during the first few chapters. For those who don’t know, Jennifer L. Armentrout suffers from Retinitis Pigmentosa and it is so brave of her to share what she goes through with us through this character.
Okay, back to the book. Now, I never was much of Zayne fan in the Dark Elements series. Hell, even in Storm and Fury I still wasn’t all that warm and fuzzy about him. But now? After Rage and Ruin? LOVE. HIM. The way he is all protective of Trinity while still acknowledging that she is a bad ass and isn’t confined to or defined by her RP is amazing. And then there is that one scene in that one chapter! And then that ending! GAH!
Ugh! There is so much I want to talk about here but don’t want to give anything away! Just know that this book will give you all the feels. And seeing Roth and Layla again is always a plus! I can’t recommend Jennifer’s books enough. Read this. Read them. Read. All. Of. Them.
Rage and Ruin picks right up where we left Trinity and Zayne in Storm and Fury. What a wild ride this was. I love Trinity. She isn’t flawless. It is so important to me that authors show that not everyone is perfect. Jennifer nailed this. Trinity might be beautiful but shes as stubborn as they come. She is also courageous. After having taken a life of a friend turned enemy is S&F, Trinity is struggling with herself. “I got this,” I whispered, and then repeated louder,”I got this.” Then, there is Zayne. Holy hot Warden turned Protector. “Dear God, Zayne was like the Chuck Norris of Wardens.” Zayne likes Trinity despite all her flaws. The banter between the two of them is so much fun. You forget you are reading a book and feel like they are your friends. Zayne helps Trinity train in her weaknesses.
Zayne and Trinity are trying to track down The Harbinger (who is killing Wardens). Trinity and Zayne already had some feels showing through in S&F. But, Rage and Ruin will blow those feelings out of the water. Love between a Trueborn and their Protector is forbidden. No one knows exactly why as the Trueborns have all died off. Zayne, who is usually the one to hold back, keeps pressing his feelings for Trinity. Trinity is still a mess dealing with her feelings from Misha’s death. Will her Rage become their Ruin.
I would like to thank JLA for not “Opal”-ing us. If you are a long time fan, you will know exactly what that means.
“All that rage it will be your ruin.”
Rage and Ruin, the much anticipated sequel to Storm and Fury is everything you didn’t know you needed. Im not ashamed to admit I slammed my phone into the couch at the end of this book—I couldn’t handle it! I’m honestly at a loss for words on this book but I’m going to try to do it justice.
Readers join Trinity and Zayne as they are searching for the Harbinger—the person responsible behind the killings of Wardens and demons. But as more clues start to turn up, there seems to be more questions than answers and frustration mounts as someone plays with them constantly. The endless possibilities stare them down and the answers aren’t in sight. Who is the Harbinger? What is his endgame? Let me tell you, the answer is NOT what you’re guessing!
Let me start off by saying love is messy, y’all, and Jen really brought to life the hardships of a relationship. The push and pull, love and hate, wanting and needing something so bad it hurts, self doubt, jealousy, fear, admiration, love, compassion—it’s wrapped into one giant package that is Trinity and Zayne’s relationship. But the rules are what get in their way and if they are truly willing to defy the rules, what’s the cost?
I think what I loved the most about this book is the humanness to it. Trinity is this invincible Trueborn and Zayne is this unstoppable Warden, but their feelings and choices are what make them uniquely who they are. They are more than what they were destined to be, and I think it gives us readers a chance to really identify with Trinity or Zayne.
And who doesn’t see a little of themselves in Trinity? In Zayne? Feeling the grief and rage over losing her friend—for how she lost her friend. For wanting someone so bad, it hurts, but giving in could mean consequences. For trying to do the right thing but coming up empty handed. I could go on for ages, but my point being the character depth and progression for Trinity and Zayne is unmatched.
The way Jen write’s her characters and their world, it’s so colorful and full of detail that you become fully immersed. It’s my all time favorite thing about Jen’s writing but it really comes through in Rage and Ruin. So, I would I suggest this book? With 100% certainty this series will not let you down. The reread is even better!
5/5 Jen! Amazing addition to this series!
What a crazy, thrilling ride!! I’m still in a state of shock and wonderment after finishing Rage and Ruin. It’s impossible to put into words all the emotions that are running through me at this moment. Rage and Ruin picks up right where Storm and Fury left off. And while it gives up some answers, this story will rock your world and leave you breathless in anticipation…..
With Rage and Ruin, we are dealing with the aftermath of Storm and Fury. Zayne & Trinity are now bound to one another. Trinity is a Trueborn and Zayne is her Protector. No one can truly know what Trinity is and it is a secret that are determined to keep. As our characters fall into their new roles, they still have to train and search out demons. The Harbinger is coming and is hurting innocent people. They have to find who or what it is and stop it before it’s too late. Tensions will run hotter than ever and mysterious developments will keep everyone on their toes. Help will be sought from an unlikely source. Forbidden feelings will rise to the surface. Will Trinity, Zayne and friends be able to stop what’s coming??? There’s only one way to find out…
Fasten your seat belts and hold on to your hats, because Rage and Ruin is going to take you on a wild ride. This story is action packed and filled with lots of twist and surprising turns. There is never a dull moment.
Trinity and Zayne will be tested in ways they never expected, especially as a forbidden romance blossoms between the two of them. I loved their passion to duty and the fight of their true feelings. The push and pull left my heart aching and filled with angst. Their connection was off the charts and I think I fell for these two even more.
I loved the added moments with Roth & Layla. I adore Roth and he will always have a special place in my heart. I think he adds some much needed comedic relief to the story and helps balance all the seriousness. I liked seeing Layla because I feel like both her and Zayne’s characters have grown a lot since The Dark Elements Series and I enjoyed how far the two of them have come, despite everything the two of them have gone through.
Rage and Ruin was everything that I wanted and then some. The first part of the book lays the ground work for what is to come. And the second part, well, it didn’t even stand a chance. I completely devoured the second half. I didn’t want to put it down and I felt like I couldn’t read the words fast enough. My emotions are a complete and utter mess. So many moments filled with angst and emotion, love and duty. Moments that will shock you to your core and leave you questioning what you just read. Moments filled with heartbreak that you just refuse to accept. And an unforgettable ending that will leave you dying for more.
The battle of good vs evil has begun. Once again, I am left with a million questions. I feel like the rug has been ripped from under me. My mind has been completely blown and I can not wait to see where the story will go from here…
I received this free eARC novel from the author and Edelweiss. This is my honest review.
Being bonded to Zayne is problematic for Trinity. Protectors and their Trueborns are forbidden to be in a relationship with each other, which is where Trinity and Zayne were headed. Now, Trinity has slammed on the breaks, even though it just about kills her. Throw in the fact they can both feel each other’s feelings, and hello awkward moments…
And then there’s the Harbinger. Trying to discover who this is and what their goal is has been a struggle. Some clues lead to others, but many lead to dead ends. Trinity can’t help but feel everything is going to explode at once, but she has no control without any information.
Then throw in Layla and Stacey, Roth and Co. and things are just escalating. Plus how things… ended… with Misha? Trinity’s rage isn’t going to stay bottled up for long. And the big reveal? Trinity didn’t see that coming at all…
I say this every time Jennifer L. Armentrout releases a book and I’ll keep saying it over and over: I LOVED THIS BOOK! I don’t know how she does it, but JLA has created another masterpiece and completely sucked me into this world. She made me fall for each and every character, and broke my heart more times than I liked. But also made my heart race for every intense scene between Trinity and Zayne.
I seriously wanted to strangle this two love birds. They avoided each other, had close encounters, and honestly had great self restraint to not succumb to their intense feelings, which both could feel from each other, mind you. I was tense with anticipation, only to be thoroughly disappointed. But when they did give in? It was magical.
During the whole book, I tried very hard to come up with many people who could be the Harbinger. I wanted to not be shocked, like JLA tends to do to me. While I wasn’t shocked, I also did not figure out out before the big reveal. What did shock me was the very, very end, which is what the intention was, I’m sure.
I loved the moment Trinity and Zayne had their deep, painful, intense, real conversation. It was heartbreaking, enlightening, true. They left everything on the table and aired our their dirty laundry. I enjoy those scenes because true thoughts and feelings are finally released after being bottled up for so long.
I also loved seeing a lot of Roth and Layla and the rest of the gang. It wouldn’t be the same if they were missing, and JLA gave us many moments of them.
And, as always, I am anxiously awaiting the next book already. I’m so curious how things are going to move forward and I’m sure there will be many more surprises in the future. I’m waiting to see what part Peanut and Gina have too!
Thank you again for an amazing novel, Jennifer L. Armentrout, and I’ll be waiting with forced patience for the next novel!
Wowsers!! As always with Jen’s work, I am blown away by how much it made me FEEL! OMG! ALL THE FEELS!!! It takes a lot to make me feel too. This story was action packed, witty, heartbreaking, loving, and everything in between. It picks up where we left of in Storm and Fury. There are many plot twists and come to Jesus talks and I applaud how well it was done.
Trinity is such a strong character, mainly because she’s flawed. She’s selfish, sassy, impulsive, loyal, determined, and even has an eye disability. She knows she’s these things and she owns it. She does try to be less selfish, but it’s a work in progress. I wanted to shake so much sense into her throughout the book, but alas, that’s not how things work. LOL
Zayne, man! We learn quite a bit about him in this one. I love that he’s so protective of her, yet he also knows how capable of a fighter she is and doesn’t interfere with her fight scenes and be all “Stay behind and safe. I’ve got this” mentality that so many alpha males have. He’s alpha, yet super sweet too. It’s the little things that win me over and you’ll know which scene I’m referring to once you read this book.
I also loved all the bits with Roth, Caymen, and Layla as well! I’ll always and forever be Team Roth, but trust me, Zayne has got the swoon down!
THE ENDING?!?!? OMG! JEN! I was SO not expecting that (not that I can predict what she’ll throw at us, but MAN!)!!! Be prepared…it’s a cliffy-ish ending. The story comes to an end with a plot twist.
All in all, it was everything I had hoped it would be and more! Thank you Jen for this copy. This is my honest review!
This book. Oh my gosh. This book. We all know I love all things JLA, but I’ve always said her fantasy/paranormal stuff is where she really shines and to me THIS is her best paranormal world. I love the angels and demons and wardens and I adore these characters. This book was addictive and it’s not a short book but I devoured it.
I love Trinity. She is such a badass but also so relatable. She can lay you out but she has her insecurities and just feels so real. And of course I adore Zayne. I was always a Roth girl (and honestly he is still such a gift and scene stealer) but Zayne really gets his time to shine in this series and he deserves it. Zayne is great and I love him more than I already did. The banter between him and Trinity is so fun and their chemistry is off the charts. And HOLY ANGST BATMAN. So much angst. But the best kind of angst that makes your heart hurt and keeps you glued to the pages.
I said it before, but this world really is my favorite. And I feel like that’s a betrayal to Lux and Covenant, but it is what it is. The world and paranormal elements are just done so well. And I love the secondary cast. Roth is forever one of my favorites and he is just such fun at all times. And I love Layla too and I enjoy seeing those two all happy and together. And Cayman is just such a character. I love how all of these characters have grown and how they’ve all created this unconventional group for Team Good… even with the demons.
Rage & Ruin was impossible to put down and it ended on a bang. I cannot wait to get my hands on that final book and waiting is going to be painful. So much happens in this book that changes the game and I can’t wait to see how it all plays out.
I can always count on Jennifer L. Armentrout to bring it hard with an action-packed novel! This sequel is even better and will hook you from the start. I mean, I read 523 pages in a day. That’s how hooked I was. I couldn’t stop reading!
Rage and ruin had not corrupted me. They powered me.
JLA sure knows how to create a sarcastic, witty and bada*s female character. Trinity shone so bright in this sequel! While Trin was great in the first novel, I felt like something was missing there, but things changed for this sequel. I enjoyed her character so much more. Because of her character and her point of view, there was a lightness to the story–lots of hilarious content–that I loved.
He stared at me as if he’d ordered a tender marinated filet, but instead had ended up with a cheap f lat beef patty. I was sort of offended. I was 100 percent organic Angus beef, thank you very much.
Zayne *dreamy sighs*. I fell harder for Zayne. I felt disconnected from him in the first novel (even though I loved his character), but in this one, HE STOLE MY HEART! I was all in my feels because of him. From the start, his feelings for Trinity are so palpable from the pages. I will always love the bad guy, which is why I was Team Roth in the OG series, but man, Zayne is surely fighting Roth for that second place in my life (second place, because Rhysand will always be first).
“You’re under my skin and in my blood. I can’t get you out.
I love how in awe Zayne is of Trinity. He truly admires her strength, even when all she sees is weakness. He pushes her to be better, to embrace her eyesight issues. He’s always there to support her. Unfortunately, this romance is forbidden. No one really knows why it’s forbidden, but boy was it delicious to read this forbidden romance and the electrifying chemistry between them!
“I knew there was a risk for us—and there is an us. I also know that you’re worth the risk. That we’re worth the risk.””
Speaking of our favorite Crown Prince of Hell, the gang from Dark Elements series continues to appear in this spin-off, and I couldn’t be happier! Roth, Layla, Cayman and a certain familiar come back again, and I firmly believe the novel wouldn’t have been the same without them. All of them brought even more bada*sery to the story, yet also showed that this gang is loyal 100%.
“I don’t know about you guys, but this sharing-and-caring moment makes me feel like we’re a real team that can get stuff done. Like the Avengers, but more evil.”
This action-packed novel had my heart racing a thousand miles per second! I knew JLA could write action, but dear goodness, she threw this one out of the ballpark. Not only was the action phenomenal, but there was always something happening, never a dull moment.
JLA did a fantastic job in building up the tension, slowly amping up everything to the point I seriously thought my heart would burst out of my chest! And guys, while I kiiiind of figured out what being was behind everything that was happening, I was also shocked by who it was! COMPLETELY SHOCKED! And then! Jennifer has to go and write a scene that broke my heart in its entirety (I don’t know how I’m breathing right now). AND THEN! There’s a cliffhanger that had my jaw dropping to the floor. I still can’t believe that that happened!
It definitely makes you want to read this in one or two sittings. It didn’t feel like it was 608 pages. It all flew by so fast! I still can’t believe I have to wait a year to read the next book!
“I’m the tool of retribution and you’re the weapon of destruction.”
Overall, Rage and Ruin is a bada*s, witty, absolutely phenomenal addition to this spin-off series. You don’t want to miss out on this action-packed novel filled with humor and feels!
I finished the book a few hours ago and I am struggling to find the words!
JLA delivers another heart stopping ride that left me dying for more!!! Rage and ruin picks up right where storm and fury ends and this story had my mind spinning!! The Harbinger is coming and Zayne, Trinity and the rest of the gang must figure out who what where and why before it’s too late..
Zayne and Trinitys relationship has been forbidden but that doesn’t change the feelings that are building. As they try to keep working closely together boundaries are bound to be broken right?! This is disaster waiting and I. Am. Here. For it! But will the consequences be more than either of them can stand to pay?
This one had me on the edge of my seat begging for more! And at the end.. I’m dead! Jen how could you leave us hanging like this?!??! Seriously a year in this state?! How. Could. You?!? That last sentence!!???? I need the next book now!
I am feeling a whole lotta things after finishing Rage and Ruin. This book sucked me in from the start and had me hooked and engaged till the very end. This world and these characters are, and probably always will be, my favorite of Jenn’s. I feel like I have been with them throughout each of their journies and they hold a special place in my heart. Zayne and Trinity are no exception, I love them. They go on a roller coaster of emotion in Rage and Ruin, and I definitely went with them. It’s hard not to with these two. The storyline was entertaining, thrilling, surprising, and so emotional. I can’t wait for the next book, I need answers now!! *I received an ARC in exchange for an honest review.*
Action, adventure, discoveries, laughter, love and heartbreak. We get all the feels in this one. Oh I am going to warn you, the end is a boom. Tissue time ! There is also a massive cliffhanger so prepare to order the next book as soon as it’s published.
Trinity and Zayne now bonded as it should have been are trying to figure this new life out. Trinity wants to stand tall and show the world she is more than what they see. Zayne wants to protect her, sometimes dimming her light. There is an emotional struggle, the kiss that was before the bond, the feels are still there but now ? Well everything has changed since then. There are forces at work that may end the world as they know it. Time to buckle up and sacrifice.
I loved how Trinity was honest with herself and moved forward with her life. She did not wallow in self pity or dwell on the unfairness of loosing her eyesight. She moved forward embracing her new reality, preparing. While Zayne was sometimes too protective of her he did have faith in her abilities at the same time.
Did I have any issues, yeh. Trinity is still a bit immature, in the beginning she really got on my last nerve. Luckily that didn’t last long. Our little Trinity grew up.

Wow. Just wow. I may say this with every book but it is completely true. JLA gets better and better with every book. This book was outstanding. I felt every emotion possible throughout this book and each emotion was vivid and clear and to my core. JLA flawlessly pulls you in and keeps you wanting more. I was captivated and engaged and loving every word, every one, every chapter.
Zayne, whom I cared for but he wasn’t my all time, became EVERYTHING through out this book. Most books take a bad boy and make him good and what made this series even better was that Zayne is already do good. He’s kind, empathetic and intelligent and giving.
What I loved second to that was the banter/interaction of Zayne and Trinity. They felt realistic and perfectly flawed. I laughed out loud so many times during this book that I couldn’t wipe the smile off my face. That’s not true, JLA wipes that smile off with her cruel and amazing words. I cried happy and sad tears and loved every minute.
So many paranormal books are surface level, but JLA took this book to the core of your heart and it will always remain there. The characters and storylines touched me and gave me everything I wanted and everything I had no idea I wanted from this series. Twists and turns all over the place and my heart was pounding to the last word.
Read Dark Elements people, Read Storm and Fury and then devour this book as soon as you can because it was flawless.
Diving back into Zayne’s and Trinity’s story was as EPICALLY thrilling, simmering with passion, and as stupendously witty as I ever could of imagined!
Rage and Ruin was stunning and unpredictable and at the end, a true heartbreaking tear jerker. This book captivated me and twisted me up inside in the best way. Add in more fantastically interesting times with old favorites like Roth, Layla and Cayman, made this even more fantastic! I could not in a million years, predicted the ending and let me just say, it was a MIND BLOWER and RIPPED ME TO ABSOLUTE SHREDS! I now have to know what happens next with a desperation that is leaving me feeling anxious and eager and like I’m standing on the edge of a cliff. Bring on more Trin and Zayne PLEASE!
Rage and Ruin gets a WHOLE SKY FULL OF STARS! Five is definitely not a big enough number of stars for this well deserving story. Utterly heart wrenching and completely addicting!
