The Earl Takes a Wife is another delightfully humorous PG15 tale from Regency England with teenage Lady Celia and Lord Adrian in his thirties, and takes a LONG afternoon to read. I had an ARC and this voluntary review is my own opinion.
Be still my heart. Meeting at a house party, Lady Celia falls completely in love with Lord Adrian. Looking into her eyes, he sees her innocence and beauty shining through but she is very young and they will soon be related by marriage! Letting her know that, as he begins to leave she tells him “Yes, well.. I suppose such may be the case. Time will tell. Time.. yes..time is all we need. Will you wait for me Lord de Courtenay..Adrian?” Wow I was so mesmerized and I could almost see her and hear the words. But things seem to go awry when his sister Miranda gets involved giving Celia advice. This is a journey to find an incomparable love that hopefully will bring the too together. Sherry’s stories always grip my heart and I am left in awe.
I read this as part of a collection “Valentines from Bath.” But I could not resist and read it again! What can I say? I loved Adrian and Cecilia and this is a timeless story!! (less)
What a fabulous read. The Earl Takes A Wife by Sherry Ewing is book 2 in A de Courtenay Novella. What I really liked about this book is that it was easy to read and the descriptions were really well written. This story is very original and a true delight to read. You can’t help but fall in love with the characters. This story has a scheming sister, determination, misunderstandings, lies, a scandal, a house party, asking someone to wait for them and love. I highly recommend you read this story.
***This book was gifted to me and I am voluntarily reviewing.
A school girl’s crush, a rogue of an Earl, a devilish sister with plans of her own, and a long ago plea make a good story but written by the talented Sherry Ewing and it becomes wonderful, must read story.
Ms. Ewing has written another delightful book that fills the heart and provides several sigh worthy moments.
Lady Celia, beautiful and young, should not possibly be thinking of marriage yet. One meeting of Lord Adrian changes all of that.
Can a relationship work, especially with a meddling sister? Is it really love or just a young girl’s crush?
Once you read the first page, you will not want to put this down until you get to the end. I was captivated by this wonderfully written story.
Another wonderful story by Sherry Ewing!!
Who doesn’t love a house party?! A break from town, fun activities with friends and the chance to meet new people in a more relaxed setting.
Lady Celia may be young, but you cannot control how or when love finds you. Her heart chooses Adrian right away and she will do whatever she can to marry him. With his sister’s help, what could go wrong?
This book wrapped me up and drew me in! I didn’t want it to end! If you like Regency Romance you will love this story!!

Meet, Lady Celia Lacey too young for a husband, til she meets, Lord Adrian de Courtenay, man-about-town.
A quick read. Well written and well excuted. The cast of characters are enchanting and the storyline flows seamlessly and effortlessly. Once again, Ms. Ewing weaves a story that grabs the heart and keeps readers in awe.

I really enjoyed Sherry Ewing’s 1st story ‘A Kiss for Charity’ in the ‘De Courtenay’ series. It talked about Nicholas and Grace who are now getting married in this 2nd story ‘The Earl Takes A Wife’. I’m quite sure it will please lovers of Regency romance!
‘The Earl Takes A Wife’ is a sweet, short and delightful novella, that was first released in the Bluestocking Belle’s 2019 box bset Valentines From Bath.
Let’s start with a bit of family history! Celia’s uncle is Nicholas who will wed Grace, Adrian’s sister. Celia, is a young girl who fell in love with an older man. She gave him a kiss and asked him to ‘wait’ for her to become his wife. Adrian is so surprised that he won’t be able to forget her. Since they are both family now, and are both invited to Nicholas and Grace’s wedding, they’ll share moments together. Let’s say that Celia, is outspoken and headstrong. So when she decides that she wants someone or something, she does everything in her power to get it. Miranda, Adrian’s sister will concoct a plan to help her get Adrian and even coach her on how to trap his heart. Will their plan worked? Or fail? Adrian finds Celia too young to marry but a single kiss will do its magic! He can’t forget her! What will happen next?
Celia is an old 16-year-old when she asks a man of 25 to wait for her. She knows Adrian is the one for her. Adrian is attracted to Celia, but with her being just 16, he is fighting it. To make matters worse, Adrian’s sister Grace has married Celia’s uncle, making them family. He now feels they should just be friends. Adrian’s other sister Miranda feels otherwise. Miranda behaves indecently at a house party (she is trying to claim a “titled gentlemen”) and Adrian lays into her. Now she’s angry and decides to “Help” Celia snag her brother. She tricks Celia into believing that if Celia makes Adrian jealous, he would marry her. Well things don’t go as planned and Celia soon realizes Miranda is no friend. Something horrible happens and Adrian comes to the rescue. But once again Miranda’s lies soon get both Celia and Adrian to the altar. Celia now has to convince a very bitter Adrian that she has not lied, or she is going to live unhappily ever after.
