This is the second book of this series and I didn’t read the first one that discussed who the main characters were and how they had gotten to this point. I fairly easily got into the story line of this book, which is centered upon the main character, a Ranger type of character that has her baby stolen from her soon after birth.
We take up this story with her trying to find aid in a mountain which is mostly controlled by other rangers. However, we soon find that the mysterious mage that assisted Robin in the first book with his magic is also missing a son by the same group and is also desperate to get him back.
Thereupon we read about how Sarn, the mysterious mage will extract himself from his dependency on the mouth rain which is semi sentient.
Overall an interesting storyline.
Robin is looking for her daughter and Sarn is looking for his son. With all the mishaps and unhelpful people that Robin is subjected to, it seems that Robin will never find her way out of Mount Eredren to find her daughter. Meanwhile Sarn is being held hostage my the mountain and his magic. Robin’s adventures in getting help from the Ranger’s is most frustrating. Read to discover all the secrets and conniving that is going on within the groups.

Loved reading more about the characters and what’s going on. I like the different points of views because I personally like to know what people are thinking(one reason books are better than movies), and with these stories, you get pretty much every characters point of view. Can’t wait to read more about these characters and watch Robin grow.

Little in the world is worse than losing a child, especially when she was kidnapped by a crafty foe – one who knows how to utilize ancient protection and bend the will of other warriors for the light to serve their twisted goals.
Rangers who cast her aside as a woman are not her first choice for aid. Needs must.
What happens to a naturally gifted child kept by twisted forces?
Adventures and heartbreaks entwined with competing loyalties.

Book 1 was a good read that set the stage and the major players in this series but book 2 was even better. More world building and character development happens. I loved the twist and turns and surprises. I thought while reading this one I knew who were to good guys and bad guys but was not really sure. I loved watching Robin grow and loved her willingness to do what needed to be done to find her daughter. I was entertained the whole time. Just a great story to this series.
For the record, I received an Advanced Review Copy of this book with the request that I leave a voluntary honest review for other potential readers. That having been said, this is my honest opinion and review of this book. I liked this installment of the series, it holds it own when compared to the first book. The plot continues to surprise me with so many different types of twists and turns. I am never entirely sure where the story goes next (and I like that). But, you definitely want to see the villian fail. Robin is a strong heroine and seems to be totally unstoppable (once she masters her powers she totally will be), no one better get in her way. The cast of characters is very diverse and quite interesting. Some of them I still have not decided if they are good guys or bad guys (some of them have probably not decided themselves). The world building is very good and continues to expand as we go along. We are learning more details as we follow the story about the rules, laws and the kingdom. As for the flow of the story, the action, pause, more action, pause style works really well (like the breath before you dive sort of feeling). It keeps your undivided attention. I have to say that this book is worth the time to read it. I look forward to the next installment of the series.
After reading all the other books and falling in love with the main characters, it was lovely to get a closer look at their early life. Fascinating to see that Ran was just as precocious as an infant as he is at 4. This kid is going to be really difficult when he hits his teens. I can’t wait to watch him grow up.

Robin meets Sarn and asks for his help.
It seems like the whole world is trying to
prevent her search for her missing child.
How will she deal with all this?
The tale continues.

Robin of Larkspur and her traveling companions, Kat and Strella, are at Mount Ereden seeking help from the Rangers. Kat needs a healer for her injuries and her shield partner, Strella, will not leave her side so Robin must find other warriors to help in her quest. She has lost her baby girl to the Wild Hunt and although she has the skills of a Ranger she cannot battle them by herself. Although Robin is not magical, strings of magic keep attaching themselves to her and she is sure the mage who is their true owner is somewhere in the mountain city.
Sarn, a young mage with still-developing powers, is indentured to the Lord of the Mountain and the Rangers. After battling the Wild Hunt, and saving Ranger Nola from drowning, he returns to Mount Ereden to discover that his young son is missing. Preparing to leave and find his child, Sarn meets and joins forces with Robin to track the Wild Hunt and rescue their children before the sleeping giant destroys Mount Ereden.
This is a captivating story of magic and paranormal characters. I received a free copy of this book but my review is voluntary.
Another home run Melinda
Really love Melinda Kucsera’s stories and this one is no exception. Love this world story. I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.
Exciting and wonderfully written. I enjoy all the characters and am loving seeing Ran as a baby. Mischievous little thing at nine months old. Sarn (Ran’s father) is young here and shows his innocence. I am so glad I have read this to know the past of the two of them.
