Hired to assassinate the woman he loves…Abel hasn’t seen Lizzie in at least seven years, and his experiences since then have changed him significantly. He’s sure he’s moved past his earlier crush, that he’s immune to her carefree and bubbly personality, but the moment his eyes land on her, he knows he’s still in love.Instead of a joyful reunion, though, he only suffers agony at being in her … agony at being in her presence again.
Because he’s being blackmailed into murdering her.
And there’s no way out. The Shadow Prophet has vowed to kill everyone Abel holds dear if he doesn’t complete the job. Abel has tried everything he can think of to break the contract, but nothing has worked, and he has nowhere to turn.
Complicating things further, he gets recruited by a second client to help Lizzie achieve an impossible mission. One where they must work closely together while hunting immortal demons. One that will either destroy him or force him to kill her before he’s found a way out—before he’s ready to do it.
But how can a man ever be ready to murder the woman he loves?

I read all the Koven Chronicles books and loved Lizzie! Once the series ended it has been great getting to know what Abel was doing when he wasn’t with Lizzie. And learning the back story that comes along with Abel! Andrea does a wonderful job of really getting in to Abels head and letting you see what he’s going through!
Wow. This is the first book of Abel’s series. It definitely does him justice. His life has been so very hard and it just keeps getting harder. This is not a happy book, but more of a journey through Hell. There is a cliffhanger, but I choose to believe there are happier times coming. This book is very well written and kept me on the seat of my pants. I can’t wait for the next in the series. I recommend this book to teens and adults. I also recommend, if you haven’t already read the Koven Chronicles, that you do so as these two series are intimately woven together. However, I believe this book reads well by itself.
The Shadow Prophet knows how to control everyone. Abel is skilled in his job. He doesn’t really like what he does, but he is very good. Besides, that else would he do? Abel wants to protect Lizzy from the clutches of the Shadow Prophet, but will he succeed? This is a very dark story, but does have us thinking about the positive things that Able imagines in his mind. Can Abel turn his back to the Shadow Prophet or does the prophet hold all the cards?
This is the first book in the midnight chronicles series. Abel is an Arete. He has had a troubled life since he was kidnapped and rescued by Lizzie. He’s in love with Lizzie but if he doesn’t kill her the Shadow Prophet will kill his mother. What will he doe. He struggles with mix’s emotions. This book was original with a good plot. There was plenty of action and drama. I look forward to reading the next book in the series!
Once I started reading this book I was engrossed. I have always thought of Lizzie as one of my favorite characters ever since I first read Mosaic Chronicles and was thrilled when she got her own series, Koven Chronicles. Now she’s back in Abel’s series Midnight Chronicles book one “Shadow Prophet.” I’ve always wondered where he’d gone and what he was up to. I was intrigued as I got to find out when I read this book. If you haven’t read any of the previous books that Ms. Pearson has written, I would recommend doing so, especially the “The Shade Amulet” in Koven Chronicles. There are many instances and characters mentioned that were in the previous books, but not necessarily a need to know in order to enjoy the plots and twists in this book. Abel has gone through so many trials and hardships. It’s a wonder he is holding up as well as he is. My heart aches for him. Ms Pearson does a great job capturing his character. I could feel his despair. It doesn’t seem as if anyone can experience anything lower than Abel does. Ms Pearson also does a wonderful job of world building describing his surroundings and other characters he has to deal with. I think she truly outdid herself with this book. I can honestly highly recommend it for all those young and old and in between.
ONE DELIGHTFUL ADVENTURE!!!
Shenanigans run amuck! Andrea hit the motherload and blasted this bad boy wide open into this block busting piece of perfection. Satisfying is an understatement. A spinning throng of vexing circumstances and a slew of surprising events catapults this bad boy to life beautifully. Ramping up all the swirling emotions into play with every color on the spectrum. Sparks fly as intrigue, danger and suspense ensues as the chemistry sizzles. Throw in distress and turmoil and you have the recipe for disaster. Action packed, hard hitting, heart pounding, pulse racing, smooth flowing, page flipping dynamo that grabs your attention and holds it until the last word. Pushing on-ward through the trials and tribulations along with a multitude of plot twists that leave you breathless craving more. The characters are authentic, genuine and believable with depth and on point personalities it’s easy to relate. They’re written with such realism it melds this baby together piece by piece. The scenes are so graphically detailed and descriptive it’s easy to picture each scenario as they play off one another in perfect balance. Remarkable job Andrea, thanks for sharing this little guy with us.
My heart aches for Able, I quickly made a connection with him as a character and only wanted to best for him. I could not put the book down. I am anxiously waiting for the next book in the series.
So I read this book in about two days!!! It’s so AWESOME!!! I stayed up late reading last night. My heart just ached for Abel and what he had suffered in the past and what he was STILL going through! The Shadow Prophet is a mysterious being that I already have come to dislike greatly! He is putting Abel in a situation that will only lead to more pain and heartbreak no matter what Abel chooses! Seriously he has to kill the woman he loves?!?! I can’t wait for the 2nd book in this series!!!
Andrea did a wonderful job of writing this story.
Able is in a rough spot. Not only is he being blackmailed into killing Lizzie, he also gets a call by someone who wants him to help Lizzie on her quest to kill “Hounds”. At first, he thinks Lizzie is just a silly teenage…but when he see her again he knows why he has fallen in love with her.
Not only does he have to help and protect Lizzie, he also has to do other things for the Shadow Prophet. A “friend” of his tells him that she knows of a ghost who can kill other “undead” beings. Able agrees to meet him and he decides to hire him to kill the prophet. Of course we know what will happen. The “Ghost” was almost successful but almost doesn’t count.
I enjoyed reading this book , it has a good storyline. There is action, adventure and intrigue, the chemistry and interaction between the characters is wonderful. I can’t wait for more from this author. I received this book as a FREE ARC copy to read and I voluntarily leave this review.
A great new series from Andrea Pearson! As with most of her series, there is a lovely overlap of worlds and characters. Abel first appeared in the Mosaic Chronicles and later in the spinoff series The Koven Chronicles in which he became a love interest for Lizzie, the main character. Finally, the intriguing Abel has garnered a series of his own. This first book is set during the same time frame as the first Koven novel but from Abel’s perspective. Where did he keep disappearing to in the midst of partnering with Lizzie? At last we know.
Abel and Lizzie first met when he was a captive on a different planet. He was born a silver, one destined to easily wield great magic, if he survived his restart. Now in his thirties, Abel still has not restarted. Instead he has used his training as an assassin to keep what is left of his family, his mother, alive. His acts don’t sit well on his conscience, but he has tried numerous times to free his mother from the Shadow Prophet in other ways and failed. So, to keep her alive, he kills and steals other’s magical essence.
His next assassination is meant to be Lizzie, the girl he has been obsessively in love with since they first met. At the same time, he is offered another job, to help Lizzie fight the Hounds and keep her safe. He gladly takes this job while trying to find a way to reconcile himself to her death or buy time to kill the Shadow Prophet.
Will Abel finally find a way to defeat his mother’s tormentor? Or will he be forced to choose between the woman he loves and his own mother?
I was gifted a copy of this book and am voluntarily leaving a review.
A fantastic read. This read grabbed me right from the first page. This Author has done a fantastic job at the World building and bringing the story to fruition where I felt like as I read the scenes that I could actually see the scenes play out. The Characters have emotions you can feel. This is definitely a must read.

A page-turner! I cannot wait for the 2nd book to be released in December. Abel is a brooding, reticent Assassin torn because he must obey the Shadow Prophet’s order to kill. If Abel does not carry out his next ‘job’, the Shadow Prophet will kill Abel’s mother. Except, the ‘job’ is Lizzie, the Fire Impeder Arete, the love of his life. Abel’s story is complicated, conflicted, soul-searching. A story of love, magic, demons, good and evil, salvation.
Andrea Does Not Disappoint!!!
Andrea’s books never disappoint. I read this book in four hours. I just couldn’t put it down. The ending was sad but I have faith that Andrea will make it all better in the rest of the series. I can’t wait to read the rest of them.Does Not Disappoint!!!
This is an easy review to write. Andrea Pearson’s Shadow Prophet (Midnight Chronicles Book 1) is superb. A perfect series continuation. Well written, with a great plot, a perfect cast from Abel and Lizzie on down. This is high-stakes fantasy action and romance at its best. Immortal demons to hunt. Crazy twists and convolutions. Poor Abel, being forced to kill the girl he loves (unless he can find an out) while also being contracted to help her achieve the near impossible. There’s more than just a hint of angst here. There’s also total fun. Exactly what I look for and easily worth five stars.
Andrea Pearson has done it again! The world she has created with every fourth-born child being a magical Arete is fascinating to me. We met Nicole and her best friend Lizzie in the Mosaic Chronicles. Then we got to know Lizzie much better in the Koven Chronicles. I thought she was my favorite character until Shadow Prophet, the first book in the Midnight Chronicles, illuminated Abel’s side of the story. We first met him in Mosaic Chronicles when Nicole and Lizzie rescued him, and then he came back into Lizzie’s life in the Koven Chronicles. The Midnight Chronicles are the “rest of the story” and as we come to know why Abel does what he does and acts like he acts, our hearts reach out to him. He is an intriguing character. The only thing I found wrong with Shadow Prophet was that I have to wait until December for the next book!
I loved Shadow Prophet! At first, I was a little worried that it would only be the Shade Amulet retold from Abel’s point of view. But it is so much more than that. Abel is complex, being bullied and forced to kill. The binds that hold him are realistic and heart-wrenching. I am so glad I stuck to reading this one. This is a rapid-paced book that keeps you holding on until the end. I read it in two days! *I received a digital Advanced Reader’s Copy generously provided by the author at no cost, obligation, or remuneration in exchange for an honest review.
