This is a great book to read and it’s also a first time author.
This is a military medical thriller it’s also book 1 in the series.
This story is action-packed, fast paced and full of drama and tension.
It kept me hooked from page 1 to the end
I read Books 1-3 in this new series by Judith Lucci and what a fast paced, thrillers these books are. Dr Sonia Amon, is a retired Army Major, a teacher at the Army War College in Bethesda, MD and a staff physician at Walter Reed. Half Syrian descent makes her invaluable to the CIA as an operative and she assists on various missions. Her expertise in the Middle East comes by way of a father who is second in command of ISIS. The daughter of one of the top terrorists in Syria makes her missions that much more dangerous as her father would like nothing else but to bring her back to Syria and make an example of her. Ms Lucci writes realistically about the war in Syria and conditions there. Her characters and plot are very well developed. This thriller is fast paced and even when you know something bad is going to happen, you can’t put it down until you see it resolves making for a great read. I was glad I had the next book in the series to go to so I could continue Sonia’s journey.
A gripping start to a new series!
I couldn’t put this book down until I finished it.
Dr Sonia Amon is retired from the army, but still does covert missions.
A roller coaster of emotions will have you flipping the pages. Start to finish I was pulled into the story and holding my breath in places.
I can’t wait for the next book in the series to see what happens with Sonia and Paul.
My excitement for reading the book waned due to errors missed in editing. It is an excited page turner and could be a 5 star book if you can overlook the errors.
This is a page turner–be prepared to not want to stop reading it until the very end–but there is a heck of a cliff hanger and I went ahead and ordered the second in this series–it was that good!
Sonia witnessed her Mom get beat mercilessly by her Syrian father who was –well a terrorist! They escaped and made it to America–Sonia was recaptured and was raised in her father’s house. She knew she would escape when she turned 18-and she did. She is now an MD and was a major in the US Army. She hates her father but loves the country where she was born and really wants to help the civilians caught in the middle.
She is asked to go to Syria to help construct medical facilities–which she does. Her father has never stopped trying to get her back and somehow finds out that she is back there.
You will read about some of the things that the people endured—horrendous.
They build a medical facility and then Sonia is somehow abducted by her father–her Mom had been abducted from the US at the same time.
Your heart will go out to the civilians who have to endure hardships and fear every day of their lives.
I don’t want to say any more or I might give away the whole plot! But this book is definitely for those who like horror and terror-with a bit of romance thrown in for good measure. You will feel like you are right there with Sonia as she lives through this nightmare.
this book was really enjoyable. she has just retired and plans to go back to her home country to open some new clinics. this has put her life in danger. read to find out what happens.
An exciting military thrilling full of action and suspense. I enjoyed the story on the edge of my seat wondering what would happen next.
A story that takes place mainly in Syria but also in the United States that leads you down a path of twists and turns involving brutality, hatred, love, dreams, and hope. Loved the strong woman character, Sonia, her handler, jeff, and her soulmate, Paul — very well developed and multi-dimensional characters. This one will definitely take you on an emotional ride. The only part I didn’t care for was the cliffhanger at the end.
This is a good story but needs editing and a rewrite at certain spots. This could be a five star with some work. There is lots of repetition of details, phrases and words throughout this book. Lots of errors. I got whiplash from the point of view changes at one point. I would also suggest the author get some betas that will be honest and help her. I’m giving it a 3 star because it is basically a good story, has action, suspense, drama, a sweet mother, an evil father and a CIA Agent/Protector.
Dr Sonia Amon is a widowed mother of two young children. Her husband Jeff died while working for the CIA. Given that her father is a known terrorist, it is likely that the agency will approach her again to assist and offer theoretical protections
The agency did not protect her husband, or keep her from being targeted
She is a loyal American citizen, and a retired Army officer.
As she tries to live her life, raise and protect her children, one has to wonder which is the bigger threat: The Agency, or her terrorist biological family?
Intense action, intrigue and adventure.
Sonia Amon, M.D. is retired from active duty. Her father is Faisal, an militant leader of an extremist group that kill and experiment on women and children. Faisal wants to kill his wife and daughter.
Sonia is sent to Syria to set up a medical clinic. She is back in the country where her father is. This is a thriller that will keep you reading.
I was on the edge of my seat through most of this book. It’s a dark, scary, cringeworthy, exciting, pulse pounding, next to impossible to put down story. Sonia truly ended up with the father from beyond hell. The horror of how women are treated by men who adhere to Sharia law is staggering and frightening. If you like Stephen King, you are going to like Judith Lucci. She can really write great stories too.
The book would make a great movie. Not only is it a stand alone book, it’s a full length book not a novella.
I got this book free through in a group of medical thrillers called, Do No Harm”. This is a voluntary review.
This book was brilliant! A beautiful combination of a love story blended with the story of the horrors of the Middle East. Add to that the family dynamics of the heroine, Sonia. An enthralling book that I couldn’t put down! Can’t wait to read more of this series!
Awesome start to a new series…
You should probably be prepared to stay up late to finish this one because it is very hard to put down. This story is the first in an upcoming series that introduces the reader to a wonderful lead character named Dr. Sonia Amon. She is not some super-human warrior amazon, but she is an amazing blend of courageous, skilled, intelligent, vulnerable, driven, and compassionate. Dr. Amon is a recently retired Army physician who is affiliated with the Army War College and Walter Reed Hospital along with serving on committees for the WHO and NATO to help rebuild the infrastructure of medical care in the Middle East. Did I mention she also runs covert ops for the CIA? Having been raised in Syria by her Syrian father (a high-ranking member of ISIS), she has the appearance and language skills that, combined with her scientific and medical background, make her an extremely valuable asset for chemical and biological weapons threat assessment. If that hasn’t piqued your interest yet, I don’t know what will. This book has so much to offer in the way of insights to the lives of our military personnel stationed in war-torn, terrorist-infested areas, the hardships of life in the Middle East, the overwhelming need for basic medical care, the imminent threat of outbreaks of infectious diseases, the constant threat of attack in the form of anything from simple gunfire and grenades to dirty bombs to chemical and/or biological weapons. Dr. Amon takes the reader on an action-packed adventure to her hometown in Syria where she is trying to establish desperately needed medical clinics and gather intel for the government concerning imminent threats from ISIS all while enjoying an all-too-brief visit with her fiancée (an American military officer) and evade capture by her loathsome terrorist-affiliated father. What a ride!
I was gifted an advance copy of Shatter Proof by the author but the above is my honest and unbiased review.
If you find this review helpful, I thank you for so indicating.
A well written perfectly paced story pulling you in from the start. Tragic that Sonia and her mother Melody live through but learn to be stronger because of it. Military life is hard being away from family and friends but a life some people make career choices to stay in. I just couldn’t put this story down and cannot wait for the next one to read.
Nonstop terror especially when you realize it could be true.
Sonia Amon recently retired from the Army and is a staff physician at Walter Reed hospital. She is also an expert in the Middle East, especially Syria, because her father became a jihadi terrorist. Sonia and her mother escaped from his cruelty many years ago, but are always in fear that his long reaching reign of terror will reach them again.
Worried that Syria has become a breeding ground for all kinds of illnesses and possible epidemics, Sonia is returning to Syria to reopen a medical clinic. She is is well aware of the danger that could await her, but even she could not imagine how much.
I received and ARC of this book from the author and though it was heart pounding at times, it was well written and I look forward to reading the next book in this new series. The above comments and review are my honest opinion.
