Cora Dillion thrives on control. After being abandoned and homeless on the streets, it had taken everything in her to climb back to a life she recognized. A self-proclaimed workaholic, she remains focused to prevent anyone from disrupting the existence she’s built for herself. When she receives a flurry of emails from a soldier, she realizes that the man pouring out his soul could be dangerous to … to her structured world… and her heart.
Mike Cooper lived for the moment. Reckless and arrogant- that was the image he presented to his buddies in the barracks. Deep down inside, he needed a friend to keep him focused and was desperately afraid of the nightmarish world he existed in. Envious of the relationships around him, Mike puts his very heart on the line hoping that Cora will be the one to snatch it up.
Will Cora realize that Mike could be the very man she needs to come out of her shell? Can both of their hearts find strength in each other’s weaknesses? Will the spirit of the season remind them both how to remember joy?

What a beautiful story! Such great characters, they just speak right to your heart. Cora made me want to be her friend and help her heal. Mike with his infectious humor just lonely for someone of his own. Sterling weaves a story of friendship and love between two people that will leave you breathless. There is much humor and witty banter that keeps the reader smiling. This is just a all around fabulous story from beginning to end!
Was given a complimentary copy. All opinions are my own.
Cora needs to have everything under control, she doesn’t want to come in the same trouble she had before so she can’t trust anyone. But she feels lonely and starts an email contact with Mike, he helps her in the game Candy Crush and he’s safe because he’s in Afghanistan. But what will happen when one day he shows up, will he let her push him away or is it maybe time to start to trust people again?
While reading this book you can totally understand why Cora can’t trust anyone but Mike is so sweet to accept her as she is and help her to improve her life. Great story. I know it’s a stand-alone but I recommend to start reading this as a series, starting with Lawfully Gifted.
I received this book from the author and provide voluntarily this honest review.
Another beautiful and heartwarming story in the Healing Hearts series. This series is my all time favorite of the year.
Cora Dillon needs something to grasp onto. Her apartment was vandalized and everything she owned was taken. Her bank account drained. A roommate that wasn’t on the lease… now she is out on the street, living in her car and desperately searching for a life she can live peacefully.
Mike Cooper, another of the young men from the group in Afghanistan , was an arrogant man who’s image was not what he truly was nor wanted his life to be.
Connected through email, can these two find each other and bring about the changes they both so desperately want? Give this book a try and I recommend the entire series to get a feel for how they all connect!
I received an ARC of this book and am choosing to leave an honest review.
Cora and Mike’s story is so tender! When you read about what happens to Cora at the beginning of the book, you can understand her behavior the rest of the book! She is totally afraid to trust others and afraid to make friends. Her goal is to have financial stability and be self-contained, even at the risk of being alone the rest of her life. Mike seems to be happy go lucky but deep down inside, he wants to have that special someone like his military buddies seem to be getting lately but he’s not going to show it! He’s in a war zone and he needs to focus on his job, but it sure would be nice to email someone who cares about him like his buddies do. Can these two “lost souls” make a difference in each others lives in they can ever find each other? Well, they do have friends in common so we shall see! A very sweet book about how friendship and love can make so much difference!
