So loving All the characters and this story world.
(In regards to the last few chapters…)
OH MY GOSH!!!!! Wait What!
I have so many mixed emotions right now.
I need book 2 yesterday!
Desirous to put a smile back on that stupidly gorgeous face of his, even at my expense, I explained, “It’s called smoldering. Only women of our kind do it. Males extend their wings, which is called winging.”
He waited in silence for me to elucidate further.
I licked my lips before I confessed, “It happens when we want to attract someone.”
The way Olivia writes is as if an angel whispered your favourite lullaby in your ear.
And the story! The story is so beautiful, so heart warming. I was hooked from the very first page.
Fearther gives us a new heroine to root for.
And now that I’ve finished reading, I am begging for book two!
A devastatingly beautiful story that captivates, challenges, and inspires. I was hooked almost instantly and fell in love with the characters and their complexities. The imagery and details were exceptional and the depth of detail put into the theology of angel society and it’s limitations added dimension and proved thought-provoking. Wildenstein has a certain elegance to her writing and is able to evoke a range of emotions for the reader. A deeper theme of hope permeates the story bringing another layer of depth and beauty to the story while simultaneously challenging readers to start their own ripples.
If you want hope and love while also putting your heart through a meat grinder, this book is a must read!
A great story that had some twists to it. It did end in a cliffhanger so I hope the next book won’t take too long.
5 CRANKY STARS
This is one of the better books I have read in a long time. I’m not super religious but I thoroughly enjoyed this novel. The main character is an angel named Leigh. She is working on obtaining the feathers for her wings so that she can ascend to Elysium. She wants to be a shepherd of souls. She must find souls that need reforming to earn the feathers. The higher number of points against the soul, the higher number of feathers she needs. When the story starts, she needs eighty-one feathers to ascend. She’s not worried about it because she still has fourteen more months to get those feathers. Then fate deals her an unfair hand. One of the Seven Archangels shows up at their guild looking for a wife. With all of her ambition to make changes to their rules, plus his good looks, she must come up with a way to earn those feathers in just two weeks. She must save a soul that is considered a Triple and she will get one-hundred feathers. Afterall, she has never failed. Oh, if you break a rule (lie, etc.) you lose a feather.
Well, a Triple isn’t that easy, and this guy has been on the list for years. She is determined and now, we have a love story going on. Right from the time she first meets him, one can tell he has a heart. The story is hard to put down as we learn more about him. The whole relationship is loveable, and one finds themselves rooting for these two mismatched people. Rarely do I find a story that I want to rate higher than 5 but this is one.
Prepare to be completely enraptured by Feather. With a sizzling angel and sinner romance, gorgeous prose, and a totally unique world, this dark, intoxicating story will seduce you and leave you begging for more.
This was a beautiful read. It was unique, and really kept me wanting more.
Decadent and romantic in every way, Feather exquisitely blurs the line between good and evil.
The best retelling!!!
This book destroyed me completely!!!
I haven’t cried nor felt a heartache as strong as I felt with this book, but I don’t regret reading it!!!
This is the best retelling I have read, I laugh, cried, cursed, blamed, giggled, couldn’t stop reading till the last word and even then, couldn’t believe is was over
Leigh and Jarod love story is… Out of this world!!!
Leigh is such a sweet, naive, compassionate, loyal, honest soul, always looking for a way to help, not just the human sinners, but also her own kind, who faces outdated and unfair laws.
Jarod, the mob boss, dark, dangerous, full of guilt, anger, resentment, loneliness, unable to love no one… And hot as hell!!!
Both of them have marvelous people having their backs, supporting them the whole time.
The plot is amazing, predictable in certain ways but shocking surprising in anothers…
The world building is marvelous, it make me feel I was right there with them, enjoying the beauty of Paris, its lenguaje, its cuisine, its art
I’m really in awe of this story and his characters (main and secondary)… And so grateful Olivia decided to turn this stand alone into a series, because one book is not enough.
I highly recommend this book, it’s a MUST read!!!
*I received an ARC of this book and decided to write an honest review.
***Actual Rating: 5/5 Très Incroyable Étoiles***
HOLY MOLY. THIS BOOK, GUYS, THIS BOOK IS WHAT I’VE BEEN CRAVING FOR FOREVER. I’m always in search of a story that’ll break my heart cruelly, leaving me hopeless and helpless right there even long after finishing it. And I’m so, so, so surprised that I’ve found it. Seriously, people, my heart is not okay right now. And by now, I mean, 3 weeks after reading and embracing and getting over with that ending of this book.
*DEEP BREATH*
All right, let me start with the basics and briefly run through what this book is about for you, ‘kay? To begin with, FEATHER is a modern retelling of Romeo and Juliet, which truly impresses me with its intricate plot design and creativity of the characters as well as their experiences in the story. It all starts with Leigh, a Fletching, a.k.a. a pure-blood Angel youngling who still has to accomplish several missions of doing something good to earn feathers, in order to complete her full pair of wings. She has roughly 82 (or 84) feathers left before being eligible to ascend to Elysium, the sacred place Angels dwell in.
To fulfill Leigh’s dream to successfully ascend to Elysium, she picks a Triple, someone with the highest rank of misbehavior and evilness, mostly due to their wrong deeds and poor intentions. Thus, Leigh’s mission is simple: try to reform the Triple, a.k.a. the most notorious man on Earth, Jarod. If she succeeded in lowering his score, then she’d be granted 100 feathers, which will give her direct access to Elysium, and hopefully, marry the Archangel who’s “winged” her from the very beginning.
Even though Leigh has 14 months to achieve her goal, what she would never ever expect is that the harder she tries to save Jarod’s rotten soul, the more feathers she loses. As an Angel, she’s pretty much a saint. She can’t tell lies, feel anything close to jealousy or anything negative, and she certainly cannot experiment on such sinful desire as sexual pleasure before marriage. However, when she’s spending time with Jarod, she soon realizes that nothing is impossible, and that what she’s been taught in the guild may be all wrong.
To my amazement, this book turns out much more intriguing than its synopsis sounds. The writing style is utterly refreshing to me, and I absolutely adore the French references and phrases in this book considering that the majority of the story takes place in Paris. Jarod is such an elegant Parisian, too. *wink* What makes me fall in love with everything is the characters, main and supporting ones alike. Leigh and Jarod are undoubtedly one of my top favorite OTPs; Archangel Asher and Leigh’s younger best friend, Celeste, are whom I’d love to befriend with.
The entire Angelic Politics and hierarchy entice me from the first page till the end.
As a huge paranormal romance lover, I’ve got to say FEATHER is a rather successful story in this genre. It’s not easy for such a seemingly simple story to have so many delicate details of protagonists, plot twists, and difficult endings all seamlessly woven together, shifting the direction of the entire novel into this hypnotizingly magical realm of Elysium-on-Earth. Besides, this book also reminds me of a
Spanish TV series I adore called Ángel o demonio, which I believe features many levels of Angels and Demons from old times.
Despite the fact that the very ending of Leigh and Jarod’s story shatters my heart into a million pieces and kills me completely, I still love this book tremendously for that there’s a light even in the ultimate darkness. What’s more, the author kind of guarantees us that there’ll be a much more deserving HEA for these beloved characters, so I’m so down for whatever Olivia has in store for the readers.
All in all, FEATHER is not only an enjoyable read for me, it’s also an unforgettable retelling of Romeo and Juliet that I’m sure YOU’LL ALL LOVE IT AS MUCH AS I DO when you get the chance to pick it up. Needless to say, I HIGHLY, STRONGLY recommend this book to everyone because seriously, guys, there’s no reason not to give Olivia’s new book a shot!!! I mean, how can you possibly turn down a sexy, angelic French man?!!! Just kidding, now please do yourself a favor and head straight to Amazon to preorder your copy of FEATHER! Its sequel, CELESTIAL, is set to be published in 2021.
***Thanks to Xpresso Book Tours and the author for providing me with an e-ARC in exchange for an honest review.***
I truly have no I idea how to review this book. Everything I want to say is a bit spoiler-ish or a bunch of ranting and raving nonsense about how much I loved the story, LOL; so here is my attempt:
What do you get when you combine a mafia king, an angel Elysian bent on ascending, warring sides, anger and mistrust, humor and sweetness, lust and angst? You get a heartwarming, gut-wrenching, edge of your seat romance for the ages!
I turned every page with wide eyes and a fast heartbeat. I gasped and growled and laughed and loved, I may have even cried and then the end… Whether or not you think you know what is going to happen in this story, you don’t, trust me on that. I knew going in this was going to be a ride but I was nowhere near prepared for the story, the characters, or the ending. I really can’t wait to get back to this world. This story is beautiful and amazing and I HIGHLY recommend it.

One thing I think is interesting to note this author created both a full complete story and one that ends in a cliffhanger. How you ask? Well, if you are not one who likes cliffhangers, just read the full story (minus the epilogue) and you have an amazing, complete and freaking awesome story. If you find that after that you want more, read the epilogue and cry with me while we wait for what’s next!
***Also random side note: as a full-fledged fan of this author I want to make a quick shout out to her using my name so often, made me feel special! I know, I KNOW, it is the palace I was named after and not me specifically, but as a fan I take what I can get to insert myself into one of my favorite authors’ works. LOL (this was said with complete jest, FYI.)***
OMG!!! What such an amazing book! I loved it to no end. This book is masterfully written and I couldn’t put it down.
I was captivated by the fascinating world of angels, their workings and how they deal with humans and our sins but the moment Jarod showed up, it became addictive. What such a great character. While Jarod is a dark, charming, fierce, self-confident, provocative and deathly handsome mafia boss, Leigh is a pure, naïve, insecure, selfless, innocent and beautiful young angel. Just the perfect mix for them to start questioning their own worlds.
I was totally enthralled by Jared and Leigh’s love story. I don’t know what I’m going to read next after such an emotional journey! I’ve cried, I’ve laughed, I’ve screamed but mostly I’m in love with Jarod and Leigh and their powerful story.
It’s not just a retelling Romeo and Juliet with angels plot. Not at all. It’s about second chances, sacrifice, faith, forgiveness, extreme, crazy and pure love.
This is one of the best romance books I’ve read. The love story between the main characters is devastatingly beautiful, heartbreaking and emotive. All the scenes even the steamy ones are beautifully and artistically written.
Well, this book made me cry… a lot. This is an absolutely beautiful and heartbreaking forbidden love story. Instead of the Montage and Capulet, we have Angels and Sinners. Leigh is a young angel who is still earning all her feathers for her wings. To earn these feathers she must help sinners reform their ways. In order to finish her wings with one last sinner, a sinner with the highest rank of 100.
Jarod may seem unredeemable, but the love of a woman can do amazing things. These two have such a beautiful love story, but not all love ends in a HEA. I am on to book two to see how this story continues. My heart is so broken, but this story was so beautiful that I need to know more.
This book is such a riveting, compelling love story. I completely devoured this it.
I fell in love with the characters from the very beginning. Leigh seems so committed to her task and to her humans. She has such a big heart and just wants what is best for everyone.
And Jarod. He has my heart. I don’t usually love men with lots of chest hair but Jarod is everything. He is a perfect example of a dark and broody but redeemable hero.
I have been previously underwhelmed by PNR novels about angels but I was completely gripped with the new twists in this story. I love the system where they gain and lose feathers. The worldbuilding is fantastic and I could really feel like I was on this adventure with Leigh.
In so many romance novels, we see the main characters succeed with their goals. I truly love that this book is a realistic depiction that life throws curveballs, and that things don’t always go as planned. And that it’s not always a bad thing.
A lesson that struck me while reading this novel is that we are often taught things that are untrue but we believe them until someone comes along to open our eyes, and that we must be willing to see the truth.
As usual, Olivia Wildenstein’s writing style truly comes through on the pages: it is sophisticated yet simple and easily pulls the reader in.
Even before reaching the cliffhanger, I wanted to read the sequel. I just cannot wait until it comes out and see what else is in story for these characters.
You know when a book ending just splits your heart open and you don’t know how you’ll get on with your day…Feather
I honestly have no clue how this is going to go on, I know there’s a second book coming out but I also know that the heartbreak and hurt I felt from that last chapter cannot be undone.
Feather follows our angel in training Leigh and her quest to get her wings a little quicker. She takes on a Triple, someone who’s soul numbers are so high they’ll never make it to Elysium. Jarod is the leader of the Court of Demons, a mafia that runs the shady networks of Paris. Obviously everything is fine and dandy when she takes him on as her next mission to help.
This book had it all; the sarcasm, the steam, so much character development and a crap tonne of loving. I finished it and honestly felt like it had taken a bit of my soul after.
Heaven and Hell!
I was not prepared for what this book put me through. The characters and the story just pull you in. It’s beautiful and glorious and heartbreaking. I wasn’t prepared for this story and though I’ve read it now a few times I am never quite ready for it to end. This is not a pretty love story but it is devastatingly beauti
I really wasn’t sure what to expect with this book. I’m not a fan of books about angels but knowing how much I enjoy Olivia Wildenstein’s works I was prepared to give it a go.
Firstly, as I said, angels are not my thing so the title initially put me off. Then, readers are presented with a long list of angelic terminology and french translations which was slightly concerning. I imagined having the flick back and forth to understand what was going on in the storyline but that wasn’t the case, apart from some the of angel terminology, which I needed to revisit on the odd occasion.
As soon as I started reading the story I must admit, I was pleasantly surprised and found that I became quickly engrossed. The direction the story was taking was fascinating and the blend of earth and Elysium and how both sides overlapped was intriguing.
The character Leigh (don’t get me started on how to pronounce her name) was likeable and her desire to earn enough feathers to ascend to Elysium seemed to be the main crux to the story. When she is challenged to convert a triple (a sinner worth 100 feathers), Jarod Adler, her innocent way of life is corrupted by his beguiling ways and they find themselves instantly attracted to each other (perhaps too instantly for some to believe). Jarod is a mafia boss and yet Leigh decides to try to persuade him to right some wrongs in order for her to complete her task and to earn her remaining feathers. Jarod is not an easy man to change though and whilst spending time together, Leigh starts to realise that Jarod may be hiding more than his dark business dealings.
I enjoyed Jarod and Leigh’s story on earth but when it became a bit too much Romeo & Juliet-y I started to lose interest (I know, but I rarely read the blurb about a book before reading it!). I can’t put my finger on when my interest with the story started to wane but the ending pretty much left me confused and disappointed. When Leigh reached Elysium it was a brief affair and I thought Asher would play a bigger part than he did at the start of the book. I naively envisioned a love triangle but that never transpired.
The story left me questioning what exactly had just happened and wondering if I paid enough attention whilst reading it. That said, I don’t feel the need to re-read it at this point. It has left me intrigued whether the next instalment will answer some of the questions Feather has left me with but that seems to be Celeste’s story. I will no doubt read on though, even if just to recover my equilibrium.
Whilst this story was once again very well written, it hasn’t left me with a thirst for more feathers!
