A recovering alcoholic’s dark secrets catch up with her in this gripping novel of psychological suspense from the internationally bestselling author of The Rumor. “Instantly immersive, then intriguing, then insanely suspenseful, then . . . the truth. Believe me, Lesley Kara knows what she’s doing.”—Lee Child We said to keep it a secret, that no one needed to know. Astrid is newly sober and trying … needed to know.
Astrid is newly sober and trying to turn her life around. Having reluctantly moved back in with her mother, in a quiet seaside town away from the temptations and darkness of her previous life , she is focusing on her recovery. She’s going to meetings. Confessing her misdeeds. Making amends to those she’s wronged. If she fills her days, maybe she can outrun the ghosts that haunt her. Maybe she can start anew.
But someone is tormenting me now. Someone knows where I am and what I’ve done.
Someone knows exactly what Astrid is running from. And they won’t stop until she learns that some mistakes can’t be corrected. Some mistakes, you have to pay for . . .
The question is: Who did you tell?

Astrid Phelps went to rehab for her alcoholism. When she got out of rehab, her mother let her come to live with her under the condition that she attend AA meetings which she does. Astrid begins to smell her ex-boyfriend Simon’s aftershave even though he is dead. Astrid becomes very paranoid especially after she starts to get strange things in the mail. This was a quick easy read but not one of my favorites. I did not like Astrid and her paranoia got to be a little too much at times. I did think the book does a good job dealing with alcohol addiction and the problems associated with an alcoholic trying to stay sober. Thank you NetGalley and Ballantine Books for the ARC of this book in exchange for an honest review.
Who Did You Tell by Lesley Kara is the story of a young woman, Astrid, who is trying to stay sober. She moved in with her mother after rehab. Astrid is trying to forget her past and move forward to a clean life but it isn’t easy especially when she begins to see images from her past. Images of people she thought were dead. Trust issues soon arise. A mystery and whodunit that is surprising at the end.
Astrid is a recovering alcoholic attending AA . She has a secret no one knows, at least that’s what she thinks, but could someone actually know. She starts feeling like someone is watching her. Then she gets mysterious notes. Has Astrid really done what she thinks she had?
This book will take you for a ride. You get immersed into the story, then become intrigued as the book goes on. It gets very suspenseful and your thinking what is happening. At the end you finally get the truth and it is unbelievable. I recommend you give this book a go. It comes out on June 16th.
Thanks to Goodreads, Random House and Lesley Kara for the book.

I enjoyed this book and learning more about the struggles of an alcoholic. Astrid truly struggled trying to get her life back on track after living many years and an alcoholic. I was rooting for her but was amazed on how out of touch she seemed to be with the people around her. Maybe I am just more cautious by nature, but I was surprised how many times she put herself into a situation that could harm her.
I rooted for Astrid’s relationship with Josh, although I thought it was rushed in to and not started on an honest level. I appreciate many of the loose ends to the story being cleared up at the end. I was able to predict some of the story, but found other areas to be surprising. I appreciate the story having a clear ending that doesn’t leave anything hanging out there.
I hope to read more by Lesley Kara.
Astrid is a newly recovering alcoholic. She’s staying with her mother and this is her last chance at making a life for herself…. she has nowhere else to go.
Astrid finds strength in routine … she regularly attends AA meetings, she works, she’s making friends.
She has another routine … finding out who is following her. She thinks it might be an ex-boyfriend … but he’s dead. Her memory is a bit shot … too many blackouts when she was drinking.
She finds that trying to outrun the ghosts of her past is almost impossible. But someone knows exactly what she did. And that person is looking for some payback in the form of revenge.
This is an engrossing tale of a woman fighting addiction, guilt, penance and redemption. Her relationship with her mother, with new friends, with a man she could fall in love with are all highly suspect. Who is sending her threatening letters? How do they know what she’s done …or not done. The characters are finely drawn, and will remain in your head long after you’ve finished the book.
