I loved this book! I’m so glad Nora went through to find Tanner! This book really did New Orleans justice in the way it was portrayed! It was nice to see Nora reunited with her friends! There was plenty of mystery and action! I love the characters in this book and series! Best book so far! I can’t wait for the next book to come out! I highly recommend this book and this series! This author is fantastic!
“It’s not many people I encounter who are living full within the light of their destiny. But you are one of them,” she said. “Do people have a choice about that? Seems like if it was their destiny, they’d have no choice but to live it.” She inhaled deeply through her nose, inclining her head back as she took me in. “Destiny and fate are not the same. We are all victims of fate, but anyone can choose to ignore destiny and let it slip away.”
In this, book 12 of the Eastwind series , we find our intrepid heroine, Fifth Wind Nora Ashcroft back in the US with Grim and Monster. Now what does she do?
Without telling plot-line spoilers it’s hard to go into detail, however, I would highly recommend reading at LEAST book 11, because this isn’t really a stand-alone story. I remember the author saying it was a difficult one to write, as it is a difficult read at times.
Does Nora find Tanner? Did Donovan just let her go without trying to follow? Does her undependable magic even work here? And how about returning to Eastwind?
I found myself missing Eastwind and it’s surrounds more than I thought I would. Grim and Monster didn’t but they actually had each other. I understood Nora missing her quiet life in Eastwood, even with the occasional pain-in-the-tuches spirit. Did Ruby miss her? How much would they be missed. How much had changed?
This series has been a wonderful escapist paranormal continuing dramady for me. I hope Nova Nelson continues it for a long time. Highly Recommended 5/5
[disclaimer: I received this book from the author and voluntarily reviewed it]
Fangs and claws, that was good!
Full of snark and wit!
Back in her old world, Nora is looking for Tanner and Eva. But she’s not equipped to be in her old world anymore; no money, no place to stay, no magical showers. Grim and Monster are with her. I must say, for a while I kind of missed Eastwind, but that only took like a second, and then I just enjoyed New Orleans. And I have always been team Tanner, I’ve loved him ever since Nora first set foot in Medium Rare. He’s just such a nice guy! And of course I’m Team Grim and Monster! And Team Nora 😉 she’s a witch but she’s relatable; she makes mistakes, she’s not this infallible super witch.
It’s not a standalone. You need to have read the previous books to understand. But believe me, that’s no punishment: this is one fantastic series! Nova Nelson has SUCH a way with words!
I was on the edge of my seat most of the time. It was crazy suspenseful and I didn’t know how it would turn out. And that ending!!! Don’t worry, it’s not a cliff-hanger, because the main storyline was completed, but it’s a nice bridge towards the next book. And now I can’t wait! But I’ll have to!
Favorite quote: “And the dessert was… Well, if this could have been my last meal, I would be okay dying with that praline cheesecake in me. Take it along for the ride into the afterlife and hopefully get to experience delicious belches for all eternity.”
Are you team Tanner or team Donovan?
I won’t give any spoilers on which team won but it was worth the read! Nora finds herself in New Orleans with all the ghosts that thrive there trying to find Eva and Tanner. Along the way, someone is killing off vampires, could it be Tanner? Has he changed that much? Grim as always steals the show, I just love his snark! A good addition to the series. I hope there will be many more!
I received an ARC. This is my honest review.
I think I enjoyed this book the most since it was very similar in story style to the first book in the series that got me hooked in the first place. A couple of real world suprises with Eastwind ties. I read it straight through without stopping just so I could find out the ending and it is an ending that I can live with….. Until the next book.
This is a fantastic read especially for you mystery lovers. Nora really has her hands full this time. Can she accomplish what she
Has set out to accomplish. This is a fantastic series I really love these stories. Its like you can Live vicariously through her character. I definitely recommend.

Wow, can’t believe it’s book #12 already – I have been enjoying the heck out of this series! After utilizing the portal that the Count had kept secret for so long, Nora is back in her old realm…and on the hunt for Tanner and Eva in mystical, magical New Orleans. Along with familiars Grim and Monster, she locates Eva fairly quickly (the time wrinkle was a fun concept!), but Tanner is not so easily located. The more Nora investigates, the more disturbed she becomes when his name is linked with vampire slayings – has he gone over to the dark side? Along with some friends from Eastwind who arrive via the portal, Nora does find Tanner and solve the crime. There are some surprises in this one – both good and disappointing depending on which side of the fence you are on (followers of the series will know what I’m talking about). What? You’re not a fan? Well, get reading because you are missing out on a great series!
Another hit!
We find Nora in New Orleans, searching for Tanner, and dealing with all the ghosts whom she can see. She’s also looking for Eva, and depressed that Donavan didn’t come with her.
Her time in the city starts with no money, no ID, and no job, so of course, Nora, being Nora, gets into all sorts of crazy situations. Her hunt for her friends leads her to the magic shops of New Orleans, which leads her to the problem of dead vampires. And Nora, of course, feels compelled to sort out the issue while on her quest, with help from familiars Grim and Monster.
With a great plotline, excellent writing, several surprising twists at the end, and wonderful, snarky characters (especially Grim!), Nova Nelson gives us a marvelous addition to the Eastwind Witches series. Definitely a series to enjoy!
I received an ARC from the author, and this is my voluntary, honest opinion. I loved it so much, I also bought a copy. Ms. Nelson is one of very few authors I automatically pre-order.
Oh my. What a tangled web! I loved this book! I loved the Eastwinders experiencing New Orleans. I loved the teaser at the end! Now I can’t wait to read the next book!
This was a hard book for me to read just as a new romance starts with Donovan Nora is thrust back to her own time a place were Eva, and Tanner have already gone but nothing in New Orleans is what it seems there are secret witch covens, dead vampires and Tanner is in the middle of it all. Donovan and Jane may have joined Nora and acount Markovic will be the reason for there journey he has his own agenda in bringing Nora and Tanner together again. 3 years have come and gone but for Nora its been only 6 months. Only 5 will make it back and something else may follow them what is it and will Nora be able to beat it. I was allowed to read and advance copy of this book and this is my honest review.
Eastwind is the place that is happening. Nora has passed through the portal to our world and is on a mission to find Tanner and Ava. This story was fun because it jumped from how everything was done in Eastwind and how different everything was in our world. The situations Nora, Jane and Donavan found themselves entangled in were both scary and entertaining. Love this series and want to read more of the series. You will be glad you read this book as well as the series.
Yet another incredible story in the series even with missing many of my favorite Eastwind characters. As always, I will be waiting impatiently for the next book.
