This is my first book by Jennifer Bohnet, but definitely won’t be my last!
If you want a book that if full of twists and turns, lost love, new family, and pure joy to read; pick up this book, you won’t regret it.
I loved this book!!!
I had the pleasure of listening to Villa of Sun and Secrets and I’m a huge audiobook fan but I find it has to be the perfect combo of a good interesting read, great characters and of course; a great narrator to hold my attention in audio vs paper format. This book has it all! I was immediately drawn in thanks to the setting, this year I’ve used books to escape my backyard and ease the pain of not travelling and Jennifer Bohnet definitely paints a dreamy landscape with this book.
I also loved the characters, especially Carla our main character who is portrayed in such a fun and interesting way. I love that she is driving her character finally putting herself first and truly set off on a journey of self discovery. Carla hits the reset button with the mindset that she is 50 not 90 and she could be alone, she could restart. A surprising part to this journey is all of the family secrets she unfolds and the characters she encounters along the way to compliment the story.
After the initial story got rolling I found in the first part of the book that the plot was leading to a predictable outcome and I felt like I was waiting for Jennifer to discover the one main secret and the story would be over. Boy was I wrong. The next part of the book is a lot about developing all of the characters in the story and I was genuinely invested in them and needed to know how things worked out. The final part of our book I couldn’t listen to quick enough, hearing everything unfold with all of the layers peeling off to reveal the family secrets and expose how each of the characters is intertwined.
I couldn’t think of a more fitting title for this book and I recommend it to anyone looking for an incredible setting, great characters and tons of family drama.

I really liked this book. Everyone woman who is turning 50 should read it. It is about the choices we make and the ones made for us. How do we want to spend the rest of your life?
Loved the location in a part of France that I have visited.
One favorite reads of the year so far!
Really enjoyed this book! Second chances are often the best~
Carla is approaching 50 and life as she knows it is about to change forever. She’s turned a blind eye to her husband’s affairs in the past, mainly for the sake of the kids. But now that they’ve left home, why should she keep living a lie? Needing to get away to get her head together, she travels to the south of France, seeking out her elusive Tante Josette. She hasn’t seen much of her aunt over the years and is keen to rectify that.
Josette, now in her 70s, has grown used to life without any family around so is somewhat thrown when Carla turns up on her doorstep asking to stay. And asking questions; questions that Josette has spent her lifetime avoiding.
To say any more would be to give spoilers and there’s no way I’d ever do that to an author or reader.
