This review is for the audiobook version.
I haven’t listened to a book from this author in a while. Can’t think of a better way to fix that then to listen to this collection. Each of the books are just over three hours a piece. This is good for you if you only have a few hours a day to get some listening pleasure in. If you like fantasy with a mixture of romance and suspense then this would be a good choice.
Mr. Turner may be listed as a narrator but here he becomes a storyteller. You could almost picture him sitting around with the young adults of the village and letting them know about the history of the Black Isle. He doesn’t try to impersonate a female which I think was a good thing because this is not a story that you want to laugh at the man who is telling us a tale. And I would certainly look forward to listening to him again.
What’s good about getting the collection as opposed to buying each book separately is that you can easily go from one book to the next. You will want to do that anyway since it’s the best way to enjoy the series. Plus, the book that follows builds on the story before it. It’s a great way to get lost in a world that doesn’t exist but the author does a great job in getting you to believe that at one time maybe they did. It’s one that I can see being listened to more than once.
I was not compensated nor was I required to write a positive review. The opinions I have expressed are my own.
This is the first time I have listened to a book by this author. The stories are interconnected and relay a different aspect to the setting of the Black Isle. This recording contains four books in one set that chronicle the lives of the warriors of Black Isle who are constantly on their guard for fear of an impending war where they will have to fight to survive. They are not full length works and feel a little abrupt when you realize that the story has ended but they are engaging to listen to. The narrator took a little warming up to as he needed to find a balance as he was articulating the different characters with relation to the storyline which improved as each story progressed. The main draw was the accent that one can get lost in and the pacing felt natural to give the characters a more life like quality. The first story, “Claimed by the King,” has a young woman being offered up as a sacrifice to adhere to a contract made between the humans and the ‘savages.’ The second story, “The Soldier and the Siren,” for some reason, kept giving me flashbacks to The Little Mermaid with Ariel falling for the prince. The third story, “A Dragon’s Treasure,” begs the question as to whether or not the dragon will awaken and join those who are requesting his assistance. The fourth and final story, “The Warlock’s Conquest,” Ferris is on a mission to get his revenge on those who took his sister. If you are looking for a magical world full of shifters, then this is one to add to your collection. I look forward to hearing more of the paranormal world this author designs.
A great collection of books including shifters of all types. The men are totally alpha and protective and their women are fierce and fiery. Take a trip to medieval times to find out how these warriors and their women survive fights, treachery, and finding love. A good read of short novellas.
Shifters, dragons, and mermaids. Oh my! Escape into the world of the Black Isle. Shape shifters who have been trying to keep themselves secret from humans for years. Shifters of all kinds including a dragon. The problem? The king of the island has to have a human woman as a mate. In bringing her to the island it sets off a chain reaction. Even though she falls in love with him, her brother has riled up the humans and is trying to save his sister. But will he learn the truth in time to save the shifters? And what about the mermaids. They don’t get along with the shifters. But what happens when a shifter and a mermaid fall in love? These four stories are full of wonderful characters who only want peace, love, and happiness.
I have read all of the stories in this collection and I am leaving my review for them.
If you love a paranormal book with various creatures this book will be it…
Claimed by the King
We get a young woman who in all respects has been lied to her entire life. So when it’s her turn to be the sacrifice she takes it with no fight.
Every eight years a human has to be sacrificed per a contract between humans and the savages but are they truly savages?
There is an instant attraction between Kelly and Broc which both find weird but she eases into her place in the kingdom until those who are close to Broc threaten everything they are trying to build.
Can Broc keep her safe? Or is she his savior?
I can not wait to see what happens next as I know Broc’ family member is keeping a secret of sorts.
The Soldier and the Siren
We get brother Teaq’ story and it is action-packed.
Teaq is the general for his brother the king who at this moment is falling head over heels in love with a human. Teaq doesn’t like it but he has a problem of his own. He is falling for a princess and not just any princess oh no he is falling for one which could bring the war to their doors literally.
Liliwen didn’t mean to fall in love she only wanted to go out and explore but alas a girls heart wants what it wants and hers is set on having Teaq.
A Dragon’s Treasure
Broc and Rhea are left to deal with the fallout and yet another threat from the Merpeople. It’s time to bring in the big guns so to speak. When they release one who has long been asleep. Saras is a man who has a dark past, it has plagued him for centuries. Can this be his time of redemption?
One thing is for certain Rhea takes notice.
We have a very good story with action and romance.
The Warlock’s Conquest
Eryn is getting her story…
Kelly’s brother is on his way to the Black Isles to get her back however that is not what she wants.
Ferris has no idea what all has gone down but he is about to get a big eye-opener.
And Eryn doesn’t have the heart to do what she must to protect the Black Isles or does she?
I suggest you begin with book one of this series…
