This book deals with the two main characters in the story and the foreign feeling one has that she shouldn’t have at all. Throughout the story I
thought of the struggle most all of us have in trying do do the right thing when the wrong looks so tempting. I think both are looking for redemption and they find It in different ways.
This is a book I heartily recommend because it is so well written and does address that eternal battle!
Thea’s writing draws you into the story so you forget what time it is and any commitments you may have. You just want to stick with the story and see through it irregardless of what else may be happening around you. When I finished it I was ready to jump into the next book and see what happens as she gets ready to find those missing people!
The author has added another dimension to an already extraordinary world she has built. The character, the Slayer, was completely unexpected and love it. She is deliciously complicated and unapologetically fearless. In my opinion, this first book is just an appetizer to what will be a meaty full course meal in the books to follow. I can not wait to see where the Slayer journey will take us. What a web the Author weaves.
Thea Atkinson has done it again, better than ever!
This book adds fantastic depth to a fantastically woven world. The MC Kelliope is a recurring character in the Isabella Hush Series. I love that in this book we learn a bit more about her and her past. Kelliope spent centuries as a slave to the Shadow Sidhe and I was fascinated by the revelations about this aspect of her life.
I am very excited for future enstallments this book was so good.
Action packed, emotionally thrilling roller-coaster adventure filled with magical and engaging charters, heart racing twists, unexpected turns and exciting moments. An edge of your seat, highly entertaining journey.
This is more like an origin story from the main series that shows a major turning point in the Slayers past. It was interesting and a bit confusing if had not read the main series but I was able to follow enough of the story. It was fun, a bit dark, and had a surprising ending. Just a quick read.
I love stories of slayers and this story brought it all. I love reading stories that surprise me and this one did. No spoiler here so read it.

“Slayer: An Isabella Hush Story” is a short story, barely over 100 pages, that focuses on Kelliope’s characters, a killer working for the Fae, who is also a recurrent secondary character in the Isabella Hush verse.
This a rather darker story; not only is Kelliope an executioner, she has been trained by the Shadow Sidhe to be a flawless killing machine, even stripped of her own name, she is the “Slayer”, the feared assassin. Her own rare ability to ingest the powers of the Fae, made her a slave of ‘The General”, who after killing off her race, has used her for his own goals. Since then Kelliope has a job to do, and executes it to perfection, no questions asked, until the next assignment consist of killing “The General”, her own master and she if forced to choose between freedom and loyalty.
“Slayer” is a both a captivating and thrilling story; dark, very dark to the point that could be triggering for some readers. It is – for sure – not an easy reading, but it offers, nevertheless a very interesting insight into Kelliope’s characters.
The origin story of the Slayer was a really intriguing allegory about not being afraid to break out of the mold and venture out to find more exciting and worthwhile experiences. Slayer’s journey did end in a very cliche way, I actually guessed it almost at the very beginning of the story. However, the author crafted the core elements in such a way that made me second guess my original assumptions on how the book would conclude. I found this strategy really brilliant. It brought a certain spice to a cliche idea that I have seen millions of times before. This spice is what made the story take me on a roller-coaster ride of anticipation and eagerness for the next scene. This style turned a ending that I would have usually found insufferable into a much more meaningful finish that symbolizes the significance of the main character’s personal transformation. Really hope to see more of the Slayer in the future.

A Strong, No Nonsense, Ass Kicking Killing Machine With No Feelings, Emotion or Conscious…Or Has She?
A Dark And Twisted Tale Of A Woman’s Existence. A Forced Life Of Meeting Out Punishment On Behalf Of The Shadow Sidhe. The Business Of Life And Death. An Assassin, A Slayer,
A Quick Short Story Which Is Not The Norm From This Very Talented Author.
Wow, what can I say about Slayer?
First of all I wish I had of read the series before reading this book, I think that way it wouldn’t be so confusing at the start.
And I was confused right from the start
thinking I had missed a book, missed much of the back story of this character Kelliope, A Slayer, an obedient killing machine without a mind of her own or emotions, blinding following the orders from above until one faithfully day when Kelliope makes a choice…
Kelliope and her siblings have the rare ability to protect themselves from the Fae, but like all of their kindred are hunted down like dogs & rounded up at a tender young age before their magics come into full effect.
With their abilities to eat and consume the Fae and the powers they hold, these little one’s were inprisioned by her now Guardian & Mentor, The General.
The General, his soilders & their evil horehounds rounded up these children and after killing all her siblings, The General saw something, staying Kelliope’s execution.
He took her under his wing, training her into the lethal killing machine she has now become working as an assassin for the Shadow Sidhe, known only as Slayer and feared by all.
This is the first book I’ve read by Thea Atkinson that I’m not quite sure how I felt about at first. I must admit, I didn’t like or even understand it to begin with, but the more you read, the more you understand the protagonist, a very unusal, unique & complex character.
She’s definately not your average heroine, I’d even go as far to say she’s an anti-heroine or bad girl in this book.
Lacking emotions & any real character traits makes it hard to like or root for this woman, but then you learn she’s just as much the victim here as those she terminates.
I took a few chapters for me to get into it, but by the end of the book I was throughly enjoying it. Not quite hooked,
but I need to know more, I wanting to see how Kelliope changes & develops & the type of person she is capable of becoming.
I now feel the need to read more in this series, but hopefully it won’t be as unusual as this introduction prequel.
All other books I’ve read by Ms Atkinson I have absolutely loved and believe she is an incredibley gifted author with a rare talent.
Thea has an incredible insight in her character development.
If they were real life human beings, they are the type you’d want in your close knit group of friends and are loved & adored by the majority of fans.
Even the bad guys are incredibly well written, and evoke deep feelings within you. There just not the type you adore, it’s more like you can wait for them to get all they deserve, hopefully coming to painful & excruciating end.
There’s nothing much better in a story than a gruesome ending where they die screaming in pain pleading for the mercy they refused to show when dealing out death, but who is the true ‘Bad Guy’s in this book?
Is it Slayer Kalliope, her mentor The General a truly horrible creature or do we give him a pass for the way he cares for Kalliope & has looked after her?
Or are the True Evil one’s the Shadow Sidhe the ones meating out the hits, death & punishments?
While there was some world building in this story, considering it’s in set in multiple worlds which are very forgien to our own, I thought there needed to be a througher descriptive narration of the all these place the scenes interact in like the General’s garden, the hall or meeting rooms the Shadow Sidhe meet Kalliope in, The Cage & The Kennel.
I RATE SLAYER 3.8 OUT OF 5
This book may not have the highest rating, but this author is definitely worth persevering with and I am eager to read more stories from this world & series.
I recieved an ARC Copy of this book from the author’s and this is my fair, honest and impartial review as always.

This is a fantastic story! I really empathized with Kelliope even though she was the bad guy. I felt that deep down she wasn’t so bad. I really enjoyed reading this book!
A girl was made for killing people or whatever. Kelliope was an executioner for the fae. This was her life and no one lived that she was told to kill. Things happen and Kelliope is in big trouble and possible death herself. All hell breaks loose on her. This book is well wrote and the storytelling is phenomenal. Get ready to be amazed!
