All curses start somewhere, and it’s not always where you expect. With graduation approaching, Ronnie and Magda need to finish writing their spellbook so they can receive the ultimate reward: a place on Grimalkin Academy’s honour roll. But when things start to go wrong, it turns out that more than their friendship is on the line, and if Ronnie can’t fix it, the consequences won’t be worth … be worth thinking about.

Curses Start Somewhere by Laura Greenwood this has been an amazing story and series to read. This is book number six in this amazing series that I was hooked on from book number one. I highly recommend this story to everyone who loves reading about fantasy and paranormal romance.

‘Curses Start Somewhere’ is the prequel to Laura Greenwood’s “Grimalkin Academy: Kittens” series. It’s an eye-catching series name, for sure, but in Ms. Greenwood style, it lays the groundwork for why the story takes place. Magda and Veronica, aka Ronnie, are both seniors at the academy where they are partnered up on a project to create a spellbook. Their goal? Getting on the honor roll. But when Ronnie submits the project with both names, the admission office makes a mistake and it’s credited to her only. Now Magda wants revenge and it starts with a curse. This, as always, was a short, easy read but contained enough of a story to make me want to know what happens next.
This is a prequel to the Grimalkin Academy Kittens. Veronica Shaw, Ronnie, and Magda Williams have been best friends since they started Grimalkin Academy. They are trying to finish their last project before graduation. They hope they will be selected to be on the Honor Roll. They finish their spell book just in time to submit it. The Honor Roll list of names is posted. Things do not go as planned. Magda stops talking to Ronnie. Ronnie tries to sort it out but is unable. Magda tells Ronnie she will have her revenge and curses her. This is a quick read with a surprising twist. The book was good and held my interest. I am looking forward to reading about Ronnie’s daughter Mona in the next book.
The author did a good job of expressing the intense collegiate pressure to “do well”; this is something I have seen all too often in my experience. It is not surprising that Ronnie succumbed to this. Unfortunately there will be consequences …
Loved reading this prequel to Grimalkin Academy kittens series, you get the background information on Mona and why she was cursed when she went to the Academy, must read for everyone
CURSES START SOMEWHERE is the first book in the Grimalkin Academy: Kittens series. This series will need to be read in the order of release.
This quick prequel can be read in the short time that the kids (or husband) nap(s). That’s what I did – hehehe.
This prequel does not center on the main characters of the series, but on the parents and a misunderstanding that happened when they were at Grimalkin Academy. When young witches make mistakes or when they hold a grudge, curses can happen…
This was sweet, fun, relatable, and an engaging adventure. Great descriptions bring the scenes to technicolor life!
Note: While I received this book as a gifted ARC via Booksprout, my opinions are my own and are given freely.

This is the prequel to the kittens curse series. You would think it is a great place to start (and it is, actually), but it came out after the main series. So it should be considered back story and not necessary for enjoyment of the actual series.
The story is well written, easy to read and fills in some of the gaps from the series such as the obvious origin of the curse. If you read the series already, then this will give you a few answers you might have been looking for. If this is your first book, then it will leave you hankering to know where it is going next. Either way, this enjoyable little story is well worth the time.
Highly recommended.

This should have been more at the beginning than at the end. Its about the parents and what started everything.

A quick read that explains the origin of the kittens curse for Mona. It was funny and made me laugh. Shows what jealousy can lead to, especially when there is no reason.
This is the prequel to the Grimalkin Academy: Kittens series. This prequel is well written with a great leading up story to the series. It’s a quick read that I recommend reading.

What a great background story as to the start of the kitten curse. It’s funny but gives more context to the series and how Mona came about the curse. It’s short and entertaining.

In the prequel to the Grimalkin Academy: Kittens series, the reader gets some answers to the kitten mystery.
Before it all started, Veronica (“Ronnie”) and Magda were friends and partners on a spellbook project which they hoped would earn them both a prestigious place on Grimalkin Academy’s honor roll! Ronnie put both their names on it and turned it in, but a mistake in the Submissions Office credited only Ronnie with the work. She tried to have the oversight corrected, but nothing was done about it.
Believing this was intentional, an angry Magda swore to Ronnie that she would get her revenge for this no matter how long it may take, because the curse would carry down to Veronica’s children if necessary. With Ronnie’s daughter attending Grimalkin, where Magda now works, will Magda still follow through with her vengeful threat?
Learning how the curse began helps to tie up some of the questions that were raised when the “kitten incident” first started. The story line was an effective addition to the series and an enjoyable read.
I love Laura Greenwood’s books. They are full of delightfully developed and detailed characters, have wonderful story worlds and are overall very well written stories. I always grab her new books when they come out and am never disappointed! This book is no exception! I highly recommend it!

This is the prequel to the Grimalkin Academy: Kittens series and explains how the curse started. Veronica (Ronnie) and Magda were best friends at the academy but when something goes wrong their senior year and Ronnie can’t fix it Magda curses her and vows revenge no matter how long it took. This is a well written, quick read and a great intro to the series.
This is a good introduction for the beginning of the series. It clears up some background story. Interesting..

Years to wait for revenge. Veronica and Magda were best friends but Magda seemed to always be jealous of Veronica. But their senior they had to do a project together, a book of spells, to get on the honor roll. When Veronica turned it in she clearly put both their names on the project, but the submissions office screwed up and only gave her credit. When she tried to get the problem corrected nothing happened. Magda cursed her saying she would get her revenge even if it took years and the revenge would be on Veronica’s children. Now Veronica’s daughter is going to the same academy for magic and guess what? Magda works there. Will she carry through on her revenge? Ronnie gives the appearance of a being great person and a great friend. What she fails to understand is that friends support each other. But Ronnie doesn’t support Magda. Starting near the middle, this story just continues to make the dread in the pit of my stomach to worsen. Things only go from bad to worse.
